Vittoria Rubino Pro 2 Slick Clincher Tire - 2011

Vittoria Rubino Pro 2 Slick Clincher Tire - 2011 BCS

Item # VIT0086

Tubulars are great, but a team-car isn't always there for wheel swaps when you flat out. The Vittoria Rubino Pro II Slick Tire ensures that you don't have to trade performance for ease-of-service. The Rubino Pro Slick is a race-ready tire that rides with the speed of a tubular and the durability of a clincher.

The Vittoria Rubino Pro II Slick Tire is a versatile clincher that can stand up to training miles and perform on race day. At a max tire pressure of 145 psi, the Rubino Pro Slick offers all of the advantages of a tubular tire while allowing effortless road-side tube changes. The Rubino Pro features a two-tone color scheme that accentuates the twin-tread, 120 tpi nylon construction. The Pro Slick tire is designed to give you a speed advantage on smoother surfaces with minimal debris. Its lack of a tread pattern provides a faster ride quality that's nice and gummy in the corners.

The is available in sizes 700c x 23mm and 700c x 25mm, and in the color Black/anthracite. This tire is available as a clincher only.

  • Durable wire bead construction for a tight grip on the bead and low cost
  • Tough 120 tpi casing stands up to tons of abuse
  • PRB layer under tread for greater puncture-resistance

Bottom Line:

Vittoria for less.

Ride well, questionable tougness

The first thing I noticed about these tires was how well they rode. It may be that it's my first time on 25s (as opposed to 23s), but I really appreciated the improvement in comfort. They also roll fast and seem plenty grippy. Unlike the reviewer below I had no trouble getting these on, but that is probably more wheel-dependent than anything else.

I deducted one star, however, because, despite less than 500 miles on fairly clean roads, my rear has a pretty serious cut in it. The cut did not penetrate the casing, but it went all the way through the rubber and is fairly long. Time will tell how well they hold up but I found this to be concerning.

How come these "pro" tires are listed as having a Durable wire bead construction for a tight grip on the bead and low cost?

I have been using this tire for several years, and they alway are folding.

These tires are great. Reasonable pricing, good feel on the road and
they wear really slowly. Plus they come in a 25mm which softens the
ride a bit on the chip-seal. Weight is decent at 230g. These tires do
everything well. Like most Vittoria’s they are hard to put on. A
little dish soap on the bead works wonders.

Solid, great for the price

Had these for about 800 miles before I got large gashes in front and back tires about a week apart. They offer good rolling resistance and good road feel, at a cost of some durability. I ride in northern Virginia and most roads are pretty well maintained, but loose gravel and debris are common on some busier shoulders, which is where I got my gashes. I'd ride these again, especially for the price. Also seems to be some confusion on the psi, mine were rated 125, not 145. Higher than most clinchers, but not what's claimed here. All around solid tire and worth the RC/DoG price.
