The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Vest - Men's - 2010 BCS

Item # TNF5797

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Vest is designed to keep the fire in your belly from getting blown out by Mother Nature\222s icy breath. Equally at home as an under-shell mid-layer in winter or a wind-resistant addition in warmer temperatures, the Windwall Fleece Vest will keep your core toasty. Two hand pockets keep all your essentials close, and a cinch cord hem keeps icy updrafts from turning your stomach-hair into painful icicles.

Bottom Line:

Keep your belly button warm.

It's stand alone. The vests that zip in are the Khumbu fleece and the Nuptse down.

Just What I Wanted...

By:

It's exactly what I was expecting. Good fit with some room to spare. Tough. And a great layering piece for when a full fleece or softshell is just too much.

Pretty Good

By:

Works great as a base layer or on cool days over a flannel. Only grip is the zipper is a little stiff so I usually have to unzip it when I sit down to keep it from bending in weird ways.

patagonia micro vest or northface windwall vest...which is the better product?

The biggest difference is the wind resistance. Patagonia is built more for keeping the warmth in, North Face is built more for keeping the wind out. Depending on what kind of conditions you're headed into, "better" will vary. Although I don't have the Patagonia, I do have a different insulated vest, and I find I go to this one a lot more often

I don't think you can say which is better because they are different style vests. The Patagonia Micro Puff vest has PrimaLoft insulation and this one is fleece.

Skiing, Yes Skiing

By:
November 15, 2011

For 2 Seasons this has been, would you believe my outermost layer while skiing (skied in 0 degrees many times so far) My skiing apparel has been made of various base layers then an NRS Kayak spray membrane jacket (about $30) and then this Vest. Between the wind stopping and the wrist and neck gaskets on the NRS jacket I've been warm and dry in all conditions, including rain. Not a bad set up for $100. This will be my set up again this year. Why drop 250 to 350 on a "ski jacket" when this does the job better!
A also wear this vest in every other season too! and still holds up.

I use this for skiing and really appreciate the snug arm holes. I can move but it keeps the wind out. The vest is also long enough (I am 6' 4" and bought a large) to keep drafts and drifts out of my pants. Definitely recommend this vest.

Son Loves Vest

By:
November 6, 2011

Our 18 year old son requested this vest for his birthday, and he has been very happy with it. He does a lot of outdoor activity and has enjoyed wearing it.
He's 6 feet and 230, and the XL fits fine.

Awesomeness

By:
September 26, 2011

Looking for a replacement for my 9 year old Patagonia vest and struggled to find a wind proof replacement as my sizing is always difficult (6'3" & 165 lbs) but the Windwall 1 has been perfect...a size small offers just the right amount of room but still sticking close enough to provide warmth on cool CO mornings. Overall construction appears extremely sound and the soft fleece on the collar doesn't chafe at all. Looking forward to many years of good use.

Hey Rob,

It just says no because its not 100 percent windproof, it is just really wind resistant.

Good vest

This vest would be gold on someone that it fit. The body is a little too square for me to enjoy, so I returned it after trying it on. I wear a Medium and really prefer more athletic fitted tops. This vest is made of an awesome material, and seems like a great piece.

Does this vest eqate to the Denali Vest?

The general answer is no. If you plan to wear the vest underneath another jacket or shell, the Denali will be warmer due to its thick/plush fleece. But worn alone, wind will cut through if its windy. The Windwall 1 will do a better stand alone job keeping you warm b/c it will cut the wind, but if worn under something else, it will not be as warm as the Denali. It just depends on how you plan to wear the vest. If you can accept the lack of wind resistance the Denali gives up for some added warmth, go with that. Also, the Windwall 1 will probably be a bit less bulky if that factors into your purchase.

Windproof Wonder!

By:
November 30, 2010

This is a very amazing vest, i used it everywhere and down to 20 degrees, and it kept me perfect. I felt like i was in a toaster oven. At about 18 ounces, its very light and compact too, which i like. The zip up pockets are also nice

so in all, very nice
