The North Face Venture Jacket - Men's

Item # TNF7334

Flexing more than a few key features like breathable fabric, underarm zips and supreme packability, The North Face Men's Venture Jacket stands apart from the its rainwear competitors. And what's a rain without weatherproofing? Hyvent 2.5L fabric and seam sealing offer a level of waterproofness that fends off everything from light drizzles to serious downpours. Now you're beginning to see why this jacket was awarded Backpacker Magazine Editor's Choice in 2011.

  • Hyvent 2.5-layer waterproof breathable fabric keeps you bone dry when it's raining and allows sweaty moisture to escape from within
  • Underarm zips provide vital ventilation to help you stay cool in muggy, hot or humid conditions
  • Jacket packs down and stows into its own hand pocket for ultimate packability
  • EC-specific Hyvent fabric uses recycled material to make up a portion of the waterproof membrane
  • Hood drawcord system is hidden in order to offer a more streamline fit and finish
  • Brushed chin guard eliminates chaffing at the chin

Bottom Line:

Stay dry, lighten your load and push through the weather in comfort.

Great jacket

By:

Great jacket just like everything else that the north face put out, right size, ordered large and fit excellent over my north face fleece jacket on cold mornings, roomier, just what I expected to get, thanks to the backcountry that offered it at a great price, will put the jacket to the test on my coming up backpacking trip to mount Whitney, the only problem is that it doesn't come with instructions on how to storage it in its own pocket.

From a guy who stands a bit taller and a bit wider, I wear my TNF jackets size L. Large would be my recommendation.

I'm 5'6", 145lbs with a 38in chest.
I usually bounce back and forth between medium and small jackets. I'm leaning more toward a small with this one, but not quite sure.

Hey Christian,

Thanks for the question. Yeah, you are right on the cusp between small and medium, so we'll look at it this way: if you are planning on layering more than a t-shirt underneath The North Face Venture Jacket - Men's (say a long sleeved cotton t-shirt or more) then go with the medium; if not, then go with the small. I hope this helps you find the right size.

I would go L, depends on how you want it to fit. Hit up REI or some outdoor store and try it on if ya can. Otherwise, take your neck/arm/everything measurements and go off the sizing chart.

We live in Costa Rica, a rainy country, and my husband needed a good quality rain jacket. After a lot of reviews research and comparisons I decided this was the best jacket for him. Lightweighted, waterproof, easy to roll up, great quality, nice design and colors.
I bought him the "Triumph Green" one and I must say the color is really nice. He has been able to use it several times and loves it. Highly recommend.

Hello, I am aware that TNF makes SOME items as large as 5XL. This site only carries up to 2XL apparently (TNF anyways). I'm not sure if I can "Say" where, but if you do a search online, you will find several places where you can get that size - Be wary of eBay, I've seen a lot of forgeries, esp. w/ larger sizes. Only issue, is that even at 5XL, the chest size is listed for a 59" chest. Some online stores have very liberal return policies, so I'm sure you could try some out. Good luck!

Awesome jacket. Fit is a little off in the men's if you're gonna do any layering; I'm normally a L but had to go XL for this to be able to get a fleece underneath. Used while on vacation in Alaska during the rainstorms and didn't have a single issue; can't wait to use it during the snow season now.

Has anyone experienced quality issues? I read a few reviews on The North Face website about the jacket saying the coating on the inside wears off easily after a few months.

Ive owned mine for 6 months and don't wash it in the machine and it's still peeling away. It isn't waterproof anymore and the condensation builds up in the selves really bad.

I've had mine for about a year, still works great. It's possible that the bad reviews come from people who wash theirs too much. I avoid washing mine in the machine. I like to just wipe it off with a wet or soapy rag. If the coating does wear off (which it will eventually) re coating it is not to hard. But my guess is that will take a while to be necessary.

Great Jacket

By:
July 21, 2012

The North Face Venture is a great jacket. While very breathable, it does a very good job of keeping the rain out. It is a very light jacket and you'll be able to roll it up tightly for easy transport. I have a similar jacket made by Columbia but it doesn't have as good of ventilation as the North Face. All in all, I would highly recommend this jacket to anyone who enjoys warm-weather outdoor activities.

The perfect rain jacket

Took this to Europe. Rolls into a small bundle, yet functions perfectly in keeping rain out, but letting perspiration out. Highly recommend. Hope they keep producing it.

I'm buying this jacket for someone and I'm not sure what size to get. He's 6'1" but weighs like 140 lbs; Should I get a medium or large? I'm afraid a medium would be too short but a large would be too wide.

I'd go for the medium, they also have the North Face Venture Parka, which I believe is just a little longer than the jacket, maybe a medium in the parka would fit your friend better.

With his height, I would still get him the medium. It'll already be bulky on him, and a large would probably look ridiculous. It should be long enough. If not, check out something like Stoic's Vaporshell, it has really long arms which are great for tall people like him.

Get wet, but stay dry

By: Departmentofgoods.com Employee
May 5, 2012

Exceptionally happy with this jacket. I've only had it two weeks and I've been able to use it several times. Trail running in absolute downpours at night it stayed dry and had no clammy sensation at all. I got the white and was afraid it would get filthy but after plenty of mountain time it shows no dirt at all. 2.5 layer construction isn't the most quiet but serves it purpose amazingly well.

Great Outer Layer!

By:
April 3, 2012

I do a lot of review reading before I buy any gear. That's how I ended up with this awesome jacket. It's everything you need in a rain jacket for hiking. It's light, compressible, waterproof, and had drawstrings and straps in all the right places. I like the fact that you can stuff it into the left pocket as well. Also, won Backpacker Magazine 2011 Editors Choice for Green product (environmentally sound, not color!). They use a natural oil, not petroleum product to seal it. i would get this again!

Awesome jacket

By:
February 16, 2012

The jacket works well as a rain jacket! It repels water, no problems there. It has a nice simple design with a nice subtle plaid (for lack of a better word) fabric. Many zippers and large pockets. Plenty of adjustability. Runs a little big as it should for a rain jacket. My only complaint is the hood is quite big. Aside from that, this jacket is amazing and will work well for me.

As for Back Country. I am a customer for life. I looked everywhere for a white TNF Venture jacket in my size. Great prices and selection and fast shipping! Thanks!

Price is good for what I got. I have owned it only for a few days, but have been up 4820' in heavy winds and snow in New England this February and have been skiing on a 40 degree day here in NE. The jacket is lightweight, allows me to move freely, I got the Medium, seems a little short length wise around the waist, maybe an inch. But its fine. I can deal. The arms are good. Blocks wind well, keeps snow and slush out. The hood is very good and neck protection. It stuffs easily into a bag. It is great as it is only the shell and I can then choose what to wear under it, more stuff for colder days, and less for warmer. Another minor complaint, I wish it had a chest pocket, so bad. So useful when on the move. But sadly, it doesn't.
