My son lost shell of a triclimate jacket. I wonder if I can buy
My son lost shell of a triclimate jacket. I wonder if I can buy this as a replacement. There is no mention of zip-compatible in this jacket. Does it? If he is a size small for his older triclimate or windwall jacket. I suppose that he should get a small as well.
It should fit a North face zip in. You might also look at TNF Mountain Light Jacket for a vary serviceable GoreTex shell jacket that is zip in compatible with all the various TNF fleeces. Good Luck.
Actually the Varius Guide is zip in compatable but I dont know about the Diaz. Regardless zipping in is a pain and I recommend just layering. Sometimes when you get a good wind it can get through the zips and because of the fact that the liner zips in behind the main outer zip and leaves an inch or so where the only protection is the outer wind flap and whatever base layer you have on so again my advice is to not zip in just layer
I have the Guide Jacket and Guide Pants from 2007. They are awesome products! I have worn them both many times and wear the jacket with out a liner as a windbreaker both Spring and Fall. When the weather gets cold I just layer up.
The heavier material of the Guide series along with the ripstop panels make the product even more durable.
Its what I grab whether I'm snow shoeing, hiking in cool weather, or going to fall Soccer or Football game!
So I just got my Varius jacket in the mail and I am very impressed with it thus far. It's very warm even without a fleece zipped inside.
Initially I was looking at down parkas but realized I wouldn't have much use for while at home in Florida. This is multi-purpose jacket that you can wear occasionally on trips to cold places(with a North Face Denali zipped in) or as light shell when it's raining(outer-shell alone.)
Backcountry gave me free shipping and it was at my doorstep in 2 days. Awesome service, thank you Backcountry!
I bought this jacket last week and went skiing with it and it
I bought this jacket last week and went skiing with it and it felt great. However, on the day I went the weather was high 20's and sunny. I'd like to know how this coat handles on the mountain for skiing when the temp is in the teens and high wind chill. Will this work with proper layering, or should I get something more substantial?
I've asked this before, but would like to hear from those that have used this coat in extreme cold and their thoughts on its performance.
If you want to use it in the extreme cold, buy a north face with zip in compatability, (Denali, nuptse, red point etc.) with the Nuptse, you could probably go well below zero with no problems. The jacket is windproof by itself and the Nuptse is a 700 down-fill. Awesome option.
This particular jacket is a winter and snow sport specific style, and does work well for aerobic cold weather activities. However for extreme cold I would recommend purchasing a hard shell jacket, that is fully wind proof / waterproof (The Varius Guide Jacket is not), and pairing it with a 800 fill weight down mid layer.
Is this a true waterproof jacket? I want to get one for the
Is this a true waterproof jacket? I want to get one for the days I coach, when I stand in serious heavy rain for over an hour non-stop and need something with some hardcore waterproofing...
It sounds like you might consider a Gore Tex Pro Shell option, which is guaranteed waterproof - notwithstanding that comment, TNF indicates this jacket will keep you dry "in the middle of monsoon season." So, this is indeed considered a waterproof shell.
So, is this cut big since it says standard fit and it zip in
So, is this cut big since it says standard fit and it zip in compatible? If I wear a size small in other NF jackets do I order same size in this for the zip in? Thanks.
