The North Face Men's Khumbu Fleece Vest is all about versatility. Thanks to its midweight insulation and streamlined design, this comfy vest won't see much closet time come fall. Wear the it over a long-sleeve shirt for chilly bouldering sessions or layer it under your shell for core warmth on long ski tours. Its standard fit gives you freedom to move on the rock, but doesn't bulk up too much, so you don't look like a puff ball on the slopes. The Khumbu Fleece Vest is also compatible with zip-in TNF jackets for hassle-free layering.
I got this vest as an extra layer to wear under my jacket for those extra cold and cooler days. I wouldn't say it is an athletic fit but it is definitely not boxy either. When I wear it in cooler temps with a fleece or sweatshirt, it is great at giving you that added warmth. I actually like that the collar is high to protect your neck, it stands up and doesn't droop down but you can definitely fold it down. The fleece material is nice and protects against the cool breeze. This is definitely one of those purchases I'm very happy I made.
disappointing. really wanted the from way back when original north face fleece vest. and this is not it. long, big, and the collar is thick and awkward for a guy. my old north face vests are large and xlarge and in this one even the medium was big.
The pockets accessible from the outside are sewn to the fleece on the bottom and two sides, leaving the top open. They are very usable as tall inside pockets.
WOW Waht a hit for my family. The Guys loved these Vest's and the Women too. The Gloves and Hats also were part of the package....cannot go wrong with the purchases and the white/grey Khumbu Womes vest is beautiful, with the off White crochet hat and North face off white gloves to match.......Smart shopping this year. The service for BackCountry.com was awesome, great place to shop....I will be back.
MEN's vest. If you owned older versions of men's North Face fleece vests - beware of the sizing. It is very different. Old XL's are like a large, or even a medium in this new one. Collar is quite a bit thicker - but this will calm down with wear. The two inside pockets are awesome if you are one of those guys that likes to carry a bunch of stuff when you are in the backcountry.
WOW awesome Christmas at my house this year. I orderd a Womens White North Face Vest, and Mens Black North Face Vests including Hats and gloves. All the gear fits perfectly. The Hats are warm and snuggly and the gloves and vests keep your chest warm. What great gifts and what a great comany. I will order again from Backcountry, the service was great and the great awesome....Thank you all, you were a Hit this year with the men and women in my Family.
I dig this vest. It adds a bunch of heat as a midlayer. On one spring day a buddy of mine and I were skiing Mammoth and he put it on and took it off after a couple of runs claiming that it was a "death vest" for the heat it added. I'll take that! In the dead of winter it's exactly what I need for those extra 10 degrees or so.
Quality seems fine to me, fits well, seems durable, etc. It's not PolarTec but it's not priced like PolarTec either, so there you have it.
The collar doesn't bother me. There seem to be some overly-sensitive folks about. It's a collar. The only gripe I have with it is that it's too narrow to comfortably zip all the way up. But it almost does, and I have a huge neck, so for my small-necked brothers and sisters, said limitation need not apply.
I'm giving it 4/5 for not being as nice as the discontinued Denali vest of biblical popularity (Why the hell did they discontinue that?).
Vest is great. Placed the order and received the vest way ahead of schedule (within 3 days of placing the order). Will def order TNF gear from Backcountry again.
I got this vest as a gift. I tossed away the description tag therefore I wasn't sure what type TNF vest for awhile until I ran across this page. It is a little thicker than my REI, Patagonia vests in I owned in the past, but I love this material. It is like the thick version of TKA material. Love it!
I've been wearing this vest for about a month now and can not seem to get out of the house without putting it on. I love the length (b/c I'm about 6' 3")and the collar size(big) is great to keep the neck and chin area warm. On the down side you almost have to wear it under a jacket in any kind of cold(10 - 30 degree F) weather and zero wind resistance. But I bought it with that understanding and the price is right, so I highly recommend for layering but not so much as a stand alone vest.
Does this fleece have a logo on the back and is the stitching
Does this fleece have a logo on the back and is the stitching of the logo the traditional white stitching? I heard that The North Face has been using the same color stitching as the fleece material, thus no contrast. I am interested in a black XL.Also, do the two side pockets have zippers?
I see nothing wrong with how the fleece was made and I like the collar keeping the back of my neck warm. I don't think the collar is all that stiff. For the price it suits me just fine. No complaints.
this is a great fleece vest for the price! it also zips into my nf amplitude triclimate jacket so thats another bonus. yes, it may not seem as high quality fleece compared to others which are made by polartec(ie denali), but this vest will keep your core warm and you don't have to spend a lot for it.
I bought the blue one for my husband a few months ago and it's his favorite thing to wear! Just purchased the grey one for him and now he can't decide between the two! The fleece is heavier and thicker, just like the Khumbu jacket, but is super warm and comfortable/flexible enough to be functional. No complaints from my husband about the stiff collar...I actually like how it retains it's shape (I have the women's version). Some of the thinner vests have collars that are just too floppy and don't stay up when you need them to unless zipped all the way up.
I received my Khumbu vest today and it's going right back. Lower quality compared to other TNF fleeces that I have. The collar is huge and thick!!! I am going to get a Denali vest or Windwall vest.
Well I got the blue one, and it fits fine, and seems to be very much a high quality vest. This is not a thin one, it is nice and thick and warm, so if you are looking for a lightweight this is not it. It is what I expected anyway. Much better than the LL Bean I was wearing but lost too much weight to wear. Yes it is pricey, because with TNF you are paying a premium for the name, but just this once I thought I would splurge. I like mine!
