I must confess immediately that I have not owned a polo shirt for years, and have a strong, repulsive association with the style and uber-urbanity. I work for an environmental consulting firm, and am definitely more of the get-dirty-adventurer type. That said, I'm constantly on the hunt for high-performing technical clothing that has the versatility to transition through the field work/university/office phases of my daily life with style. This shirt just blew all of my preconceived ideas of the quintessential polo out the window. Frankly, it's one hot polo. It fits the female frame like it was tailor-made, yet without clinging. It accentuates curves, and in black, cuts such a striking silhouette, it could be Cat-Woman's base layer. It is true to size, but runs slightly longer through the torso than most North Face tops, especially the scooped back hem. The zipper is neat and practical but flexible, so you don't get any awkward pulling or rumpling there when you move around. The sleeves aren't tight, but fit closely and are tastefully proportioned. I have never seen a technical fabric quite like this before, but it is very cool on the inside thanks to an air-cell design, and smooth on the outside with a matte finish. I failed to notice anything particularly special about the collar, but the light, slightly stretchy fabric and un-structured shoulder design opens up a whole new horizon of comfort and utility. There are multiple external seams, as depicted, which may be more notably sporty on the lighter colors, but practically disappear on the black. Let's put it this way; I would have no qualms about repelling into a canyon with this shirt, and then having a client meeting back at the car. I am truly impressed with the fit and performance, and highly recommend it to any outdoors-woman. This is THE new generation polo shirt.
