The North Face Denali Thermal Jacket - Women's - 2009 BCS

Item # TNF4641

The incredibly popular The North Face Women’s Denali Thermal Jacket combines time-tested performance and environmentally responsible design. The North Face uses plush, recycled Polarted 300 high-loft fleece to insulate you even when wet—and to reduce landfill waste at the same time. Abrasion-resistant reinforcements in high-stress areas amp up durability, and the jacket’s low bulk lets you pack it wherever you go. Wear this jacket alone for spring, summer, and fall adventuring—and then zip it into your ski shell in winter for added insulation.

Bottom Line:

Proven durability, performance, and comfort.

Well I'm 5'5 and 135lbs so pretty close size and I have a medium. By itself it is prettier big and baggy but it has an adjustable bottom which helps. For me the small fits better, but I like to be able to fit a sweatshirt and extra layers on top. The medium is perfect for it. So I would say Medium if you like to layer underneath or a small if your just going to wear t shirt beneath.

This jacket is super cute but, it doesn't hold up will, it gets pilled and not soft after the first time you wash it, it is not warm AT ALL, and it's such a rip-off.

My daughter had two of them through middle school (gray/white, black/black) girls denali. They are not warm but the kids love them. I washed them seperately, zippered and turned inside out. Absolutely no fabric softener and hang to dry. Hers still looked fabulous even after she out grew them and gave them to a friend.

Best Ever

By:

I didn't buy it from this website, I actually bought it from TNF.com but I wanted to write a review here too. I LOVE this jacket! It is extremely warm! In fact sometimes it's too warm (which is a good thing when in the car stepping out into the cold weather). i'M 5'10'' and the arms fit me perfectly. I've worn this multiple times in 30 degree weather and not needed any other layers. Of course I wasn't out for extended periods of time. I never dry this jacket and it's always washed on a gentle cycle. My jacket is washed often because my young son is always toughing me with something sticky when I'm wearing it.

I would buy this a thousand times over. I even bought a little one for my son. Some would think it silly to buy something so expensive for someone who can only wear it one season but it was worth it to me!

The jacket is warm but not as warm as a winter jacket. The wind does penetrate some. The jacket is very comfortable and soft! We bought a women's small for our daughter who is 5' 6 1/2", 120 pounds, 32C and it fits her perfectly with the sleeves extending about an inch past her wrist.

Denali versus Denali Thermal? I know the thermal version has

Denali versus Denali Thermal? I know the thermal version has the longer, silkier fleece. Other than that, are there any other style or function difference? I do notice that the original version has elbow patches, but I can;t see any other difference! Please let me know if you know =)

By:
February 15, 2010

Neither version are wind resistant. Wind will go right through both. However, the thermal uses more "shaggy" fleece, which should be able to create more air pockets, and therefore, trap more warm air around your body. As a result, the thermal is actually warmer than the regular, unlike what the other answer says.

By:
November 13, 2010

Nailed It? (1) (0)

Flag

The difference is the warmth! The thermal is not very warm as the fleece isn't as dense as the regular Denali. The weight of the thermal version is in the high loft instead of in the density of the fleece, therefor, the wind whips right through the thermal version.

By:
May 8, 2010

Other then the high-loft fleece there is not much of a difference between these two jackets.

This jacket says "Thermal"... but it's not windproof. Then there's the regular "Denali Jacket" for approximately $20.00 less. The specs look to be the same. Same weight, same length... both 300 polartec. How are they different?

The Denali Thermal uses a high-loft Polartec fleece, which in essence makes it a softer feel on the inside. Other then that they are pretty much the same jacket.

My daughters and son all have the North Face Denali and live in the jacket through the winter months. They can add a heavier layer when needed. But, on warm days, they can ski in just the jacket! My son's was stolen at the college campus recently, and he immediately was online ordering for overnight delivery!

Not the normal Denali fleece!

By:
May 8, 2010

I got this fleece in the recycled Brown. It is not as thick of fleece as other Denali jackets I have. I called to even question whether it was actually 300g, and Backcountry said it is. The jacket has a hile pile fluff to it....kinda like a carpet or rug....so I am thinking the weight is in the pile. Either way, the wind goes right through it. Normally Denali fleece jackets are quite warm and cozy, but this one is just okay. It is warm enough for a nice spring or fall day and that is it.
