The California Condor would have gone extinct were it not for some pretty drastic conservation measures. Extinction might be in your near future, too, if you if you decide to go outside for extended periods this winter without a jacket. With its 3-in-1 design, fleece liner, and waterproof HyVent fabric, The North Faces Condor Triclimate Jacket is designed to keep you warm and off the endangered species list.
The North Face designed this 3-in-1 jacket to be worn multiple waysthe shell alone, the liner alone, and both the shell and liner together
The shell uses waterproof breathable HyVent fabric to shed outside precipitation and to allow excess internal heat and moisture to escape
Apex Climateblock Softshell liner jacket is highly water and wind resistant, yet still maintains a comfortable level of breathabilitywell-suited for winter trekking, skiing, and snowshoeing
Apex liner jacket also provides moderate insulation for outdoor activities pair the softshell with additional base layers when the temperature takes a nosedive
Fully adjustable hood cinches tight around your head (for when the wind and snow are really howling) but is also removable for when the weather clears up
Bottom Line:
The hardshell hugs the softshell and then they both hug you.
Terrific shell, with added bonus of the Apex fleece...great combo. Its smaller than the other 3-1's i have from TNF, not sure why? Triumph green is great colour, close to what you see in the image onsite...the softshell liner sleeves run long when worn separately (no biggie)...overall TNH quality!
what kind of temp range will this jacket be suitable for?

what kind of temp range will this jacket be suitable for? i live in phoenix bu plan on doing some ice climbing in Colorado, and some mountaineering in cali and col. will this be enough jacket if i add a winter base layer?
The shell is just fine except for the Velcro strips. I actually returned this jacket because the Velcro just deteriorated. I couldn't bring myself to get a full refund because I wore the jacket for two seasons so I got a replacement. The interior jacket is not usable. It does not slide on and off without difficulty. I would just buy the shell and put a Patagonia jacket inside ( the zippers are the same). I am also disappointed there is not an inside pocket or a pocket for an iPod. While the jacket does keep you dry the hood does not size well unless you are wearing a helmet.
I'm looking to purchase this jacket but i'm not sure what size to get. I'm debating between a medium and a large. I am 5'10 and 145 pounds. If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated
I ordered the Medium for my husband (he usually wears medium jackets) and it ended up being small. I returned it and got the Large and fits perfectly. I recommend getting one size bigger to the one you usually wear. Otherwise, it is a great jacket and Back Country's return policy was a breeze to work with and they refunded me very quickly! Very happy with the website!!
I'm piggybacking on Will's question...I'm looking for a "do it all" solution, since I live in TN, where it doesn't get all that cold, but I occasionally make it up north and out west. I'm 6'00", 190 lbs, with a 42 jacket size and medium build. I'm not currently packing a belly, nor do I plan to.
This looks like a good solution for all-day exposure to cold and wet e.g. tailgaters up north, and for my occasional ski trips out west. I've been wearing the same Edelweiss parka for 16 years , and it's time for a change. I'd appreciate thoughts on sizing / utility. I do not anticipate extreme weather, just garden-variety cold and wet, with the possibility of colder and dry on those rare occasions I get to head for the mountains. This jacket would not need to deal with extreme conditions, nor any outdoor activities beyond skiing or standing around staying warm and dry.
I love my North Face tri jacket. In the spring and fall I usually just wear the fleece, except if its raining I will wear the shell. Im up in New England and for the winter I wear the fleece and shell together and my upper body never feels cold. During activities I find im actually unzipping the fleece because im sweating in it, and thats with just wearing a Tshirt underneith. Plus I find it is very durable, I wear it on construction sites and if it gets dirty it cleans very easy in the washing machine.
This coat is, well Awesome! Both coats are sweet and very warm and even the outside shell isnt bad. Has great wind blocking properties. This coat will do everything I need it to do here in NC
I agree with the medium. I am 5 11 ish and about 175 lbs and a large is quite big on me. Now if you are planning on a big sweater underneath, you may want a large
I am 6'03", 230 lbs, and have a 44" chest. I purchased an XL and love it. I tried it on with an Under Armour hoodie on underneath and it was a little sung but the hoodie was bulky.
I was a little concerned given previous reviews, but liked the jacket enough to go out on a limb anyways. I am glad I did. The zippers work great and I like the mesh pockets up high and close to the chest region. The hood is primarily zipped on with two snaps up closer to the main zipper which makes it very secure. The base layer fleece is also very heavy duty and I would feel comfortable wearing it alone, it doesn't look like a cheap rip off of a North Face. It is a solid fleece made of a nice wind stopping material. I had my last TriClimate jacket for ten years. I expect this one will do the same.
THE COATS ARE NICE.... BUT... I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO SEND IN THREE (3) COATS FOR ZIPPER REPAIR THIS YEAR. I BOUGHT THEM EXPECTING A HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT. THE REPAIR TIME IS REALLY TOO LONG AS WELL. THREE TO FOUR WEEKS, PLUS THE CHEAPIST, SLOWEST WAY TO SHIP THEM BACK, TAKING ANOTHER WEEK OR SO, IS NOT WORLD CLASS SERVICE. THANK YOU. T LeMaster TLEMASTER@VALLEYHONDA.COM
I have the same issue. On my second jacket now. The zipper gets stuck on the outer layer and when I tried to undo it, it snapped twice. I will try and get it fixed this time and see if it sticks next season.
i can not do that, but you can contact customer service by opening a chat window by clicking on the "chat now" button in the top right of the screen... although, if you are in Australia, the chat now button may be on the bottom left of your screen.
or add it to your cart, update your address/shipping information and it will give you an accurate cost. you are not committed to buying anything at this point as it is before you enter your payment information.
After lots of consideration, I purchased this jacket for my husband's birthday. Beautiful color, great quality of workmanship. My husband is 6'3, not at all heavy at 175 lbs. The sleeve length was good on his long arms and there was plenty of room in the waist, but the shoulder width was narrow and the jacket was tight across the chest from arm pit to arm pit. He tried it on with only a flannel shirt, so it really would never work with a sweater. Sigh. Very strange, since he's pretty lightly built. Beautiful jacket with sizing issues.
Just bought the Nuptse in Medium, it fits very well - any thoughts
Just bought the Nuptse in Medium, it fits very well - any thoughts on whether I'd be able to squeeze it in as a liner for the Condor in size medium? I heard several people comment that it's already a tight fit.
works great.. I found the softshell portion alone, did not hold up to wet snow that well. Kind of sponged up on me, I could nearly ring out the coat after 3.5 hours on showshoes. Add the outer layer, it is virtually waterproof, but with it being near freezing, that was not an option. I would have liked a few more pockets in the softshell, but overall, a great 3 n 1
Unfortunately we are not getting any more in stock. I recommend contacting The North Face directly to see if they have any. If they don't, they can tell you who does.
This is a great jacket! I will start with a mild CON first, I find the sleeves to be a little long for me IF I dont adjust the sleeve closure, but...the "extra" length provides me with more then adequate movement. The jacket is 100% waterproof and there is a generous storm flap for the main front zipper. The seams are taped but, I haven't had the jacket long enough to really see if there is any failures. If there would be one...the one spot I would think would fail is the upper chest (alpine) pocket zipper. Although there is a storm flap protecting the opening, the zipper "may" be exposed to a driving rain....the question rests with will water actually penetrate the zipper if fully zipped up. The construction and material used is true to The North Face...its top notch. Hood is easily removed via a few snaps and a zipper. There is no "storage" for the hood should you remove it other then one of the pockets provided. I dont really know why you would remove it anyways, it doesn't get in the way. Wind protection is great and I stay comfortably warm with only normal street clothes. For added warmth and protection I have layered with a light hooded fleece from REI or a light weight fleece vest from Columbia Titanium Series. All in all I am very very happy with the jacket. I have not separated the liner from the shell to review separate but as a "system" they work great!
I have the large, and I am slim but tall 5'11 @150lbs. fit is good with enough space to wear additional clothing. Sleeves were perfect for my long arms where I usually run into problems with fit. It was pretty true to size for me. Foutunatly I was able to try it on at another retailer first. Very happy!!!
I bought this jacket for early/late season outdoor activities like hiking. The styling is great and jacket had the perfect combination of weight, style, color and functionality I was looking for. Unfortunately it was tight across the upper back and armpit area, I'm 6'2" tall and a solid/athletic 230 lbs. and usually wear an XL. I havent had any fit issues with Columbia, Marmot, Merrell with the sizing. Disappointed I had to return it and that no one had this in New Taupe Green in XXL.
Was happy to find another in XXL, still tight in the armpits which creates some soreness after prolonged activity. The fit will make it impossible to wear anything bulky under the jacket or to upgrade to a heavier soft shell/fleece. This one will be going back as well.
Does the hood stow in the collar? If not does anyone know of
Does the hood stow in the collar? If not does anyone know of any Gortex jacket that has stowable hood? I bought one from North Face about 4 yrs. ago but lost it. Trying to replace but hard to find sstowable hood. thanks
I own the immigration 3 in 1 which came with a 100 gram down insulation. I paid less for that jacket and it keeps me warmer than the condor. I was outside for only a few minutes in about 10 degree weather wearing a hoodie and this jacket and I could feel the cold. Not impressed with the apex liner because it's not very warm at all. For the price ( $279) I would think the jacket would keep me warm and the pockets are not lined. It is true to size. I'm 5'9 170 and a med fits me great. For colder winters I would not recommend. I am considering returning. Mason NY
Awesome jacket here. Runs pretty true to size and it's super warm! I love that the zip in jacket is similar to the Bionic (that's why I bought this one over some of the other 3-in-1 jackets that have a zip in fleece). I bought the red one and I get compliments everywhere I go!
I researched NTF jackets for a couple weeks, and this is the one I landed on. From the description of it it seemed to be one of the warmer 3 in 1 jackets. I quickly learned this was not very true. I went outside for 5 minutes to walk the dog in 30 degree weather with slight wind and was shivering by the time I came back in. Granted i only had a t-shirt on under but I wasn't outside for that long. I also did not like how the pockets of the shell were not lined making there cold and did not provide much warmth. There is no internal pockets either. I ended up returning this and went for TNF Hecktic instead. A review will come as soon as I give that a test drive.

Hi Experts,
I'm a noob with winter jackets. I just recently moved up north, so i've been looking around for great winter jacket. I came across a few jackets here. One of them is this Tricilmate Condor.
First of all I would like to ask your opinion on how does it compare to Maineline and Vortex by TNF?
Secondly I dont want to spend more than $300. is there any better jacket within my price range that exceeds the quality of those jackets that I mentioned before? (I prefer it to be not too bulky)
thirdly, Im 6'1" 180lbs what size should I go for?
Hopefully you will get several answers as this is quite a broad question. It really depends on your location and what kind of cold (wet or dry) you will be facing. These 3 in 1 jackets work just fine for standard winter living and some slight winteractivities. There are of course many specialized jackets out there (big puffy coats for cold dry, water proof shells that you layer insulation underneath for wet snow conditions). If you want to keep the bulk down it looks like this jacket doesn't have puffy insulation persay, but that also means it wouldn't be as warm when you're standing around as one that has a down or synthetic insulation layer. I'm in MN and most of last winter I was in a Stoic down jacket and every once and a while threw an REI shell over it that has a hood when it got stupid cold. Then again before that I had an old Columbia 3 in 1 I rocked for 10+ years.
