It can be tough to look elegant once January closes in and you're fighting sub-zero nastiness on your way to work. The North Face gives you the solution with the Women's Arctic Parka. Waterproof breathable HyVent nylon fabric and plush 550 fill goose down create a barrier between you and Old Man Winter, while the long cut and stylish removable faux fur maintain a sophisticated look so you don't look like you just climbed Everest.
Love it! Not only is the coat super warm, but I love the detailing.. it actually makes me feel slim, instead of like a marshmallow. I'm 5'10, 145lbs and the medium fit perfect.
I bought this parka for my wife in a medium. She normally wears a medium 8-10 in everything. She weights about 135 lbs and is 5'- 3" tall. She definitely never wears a size large. I exchanged the medium for a large, and the parka appears well made and was a good buy. However, the arm holes at the shoulder are still a little tight for her. Exchanging for the large was the right choice and now she can wear a fleece vest and a sweater underneath. I recommend a large in this parks if you normally wear a medium.
That's just the opposite of my experience. I bought the Large first, looking at the measures, and it was far too big and didn't look good at all. I usually buy size L/M.
I changed it for a size M, and it fits perfectliy. I live in cold Norway, but never need to wear much extra underneath this parka. My measurements are more like L than M.
Wish I had seen this before I got mine! I'm almost the same size (about 5 lbs more and 1" taller) and also bought a medium. Love the coat but am disappointed every time that I wear it that I didn't buy a large! It would fit fine with nothing underneath it, but if I need a coat this heavy, I'm also going to probably have a big sweater on too! Oh well, hopefully others will read this first!
Had the same experience with the North Face I bought last year. Looking for a longer jacket - thanks for saving me the trouble of getting the Medium and having to exchange it, as I'm the same weight & height as your wife.
I don't know if it was the sizing or the cut of this item, but it looked absolutely terrible. It was too bulky looking and the style looked really bad. There are no shoulder seams on the coat, so I think no matter if it fits properly or not it's not going to look right. I am usually a large in women's coats, and this was swimming on me-no form fits for this coat, ladies. It seemed like a very warm coat, but I was so disappointed with how it looked. Sent this one right back, unfortunately. Mainly due to the poor appearance on me.
it says to hand or machine wash it (on the inside tag), but to remove the fur part of the hood, first. i'm a little worried about it being white (bought the white and black, and am trying to decide) because of how fast it will get dirty.... :/
Love this parka! Previously had North Face 700 fill coat with traditional puffy coat look, this is just as warm at 550 fill and very comfortable. This is a true to size fitted coat, so don't expect it to be super roomy. The only difference I can spot between this coat and the current season coat is the logo- this embroidery is black and the newer coat has white. I like the black better, feel like this is a great deal.
Andy, Start a CHAT NOW session and speak with a gear rep. They should be able to give you the specifics on the color of the jacket and logo. Logo colors change with season. Backcountry folks are good to work with on any returns, etc.
Ok so im 5'3 120lbs and ordered the Small which fits perfectly! I tried the Medium on at another store after i ordered it and it was HUGE!! I also felt there was a big size difference between the two. Ok so here is the most important thing about this coat; it is SO warm, right now it is -13 degress in upstate NY and i could wear a tank top with this jacket and go to the store where i wouldnt obviosly take it off and be completely comfortable!! It is SO warm i have to turn my heat off in the car sometimes :) This is BY FAR the warmest, best jacket i have ever owned!! I love it and recommend it to anyone!!!!
My wife loves it. She's perpetually cold and she has actually become too warm several times which is saying a lot about the warmth of this parka. She also feels that it looks more refined than most insulated coats because it has the hyvent exterior. She feels comfortable wearing this to appointments where normal puff coats would not be appropriately nice to do so.
Wondering if the sizes are true. I am a 14 but I do have larger
Wondering if the sizes are true. I am a 14 but I do have larger arms and wonder if the sleeves on a large would be fine. Usually 14's work but worried about a coat this expensive.
I think it runs large-I am usually a size large and this coat was swimming on me. I am not a small person either, 5'8", 160... 40,28,40. Large looked terrible and I returned it.

I think it runs small! I got one a year or so ago and absolutely LOVE it, but have been so disappointed that I paid that much for it and it is kind of snug on me! I wear 8-10 tops and ordered a medium. Definitely should have bought a large!
I own an Arctic Parka and I LOVE It! This is the best winter coat I have ever got. So warm and toasty in a cold and windy Chicago weather. I am 5'3, 105 lbs and the size SMALL perfectly fits like a glove. I am interested to know about the Brooklyn style. What is the difference between these two in terms of quality and functionality? Is brooklyn as warm as the arctic parka? Thanks.
Well one reason is the materials involved and the larger amount of said materials. HyVent is a top material from North Face (breathable and water proof) and goose down always warrants a premium.
Then of course you will pay extra for a proven brand name. On top of that it's season for winter coats, so supply and demand will affect over all pricing as well.
If you want to find a good deal for a winter coat, I would recommend waiting until spring - summer. $300 for a warm sturdy long coat is not that bad, especially if it will last you several years of course. But I can not speak to the specific quality of this coat.
My husband brought me a Northface jacket for Xmas, size XL, but
My husband brought me a Northface jacket for Xmas, size XL, but I needed a XXL. When to two stores, but your jackets do not go up to that size, it is a great jacket, does your jackets run any larger, please inform me. I do need a bigger size. thanks, Sylvia
I love this coat...it's warm yet light weight and has a shape. Only complaint is that it runs a bit small. I ordered a medium which is a bit snug around my chest...but fear a large would be too big everywhere else. I don't think I can wear layers with it...but it's quite warm so I'm not worried about it.
I bought this for my wife as she is always freezing. I have been with her when she is wearing this coat and has had to unzip it partially because she is so warm. Great coat and looks like it will be durable like all of our other North Face gear. The real test is when we head up to Canada.....
Here you can see the cuffs and the lining! It is made of 100% recycled polyester, very soft. In mine (purple) is dark grey as well as in the blue one if I remember it well. Then, the black, the grey and the brown have it in black. And the white (actually a kind of ivory) have it in ivory.
I have to say that, coming from a warm country, winters in the north of the States can be hard. But it was not reason enough to wear one of those bulky-puffy coats that make you look like the Michelin man. I wanted to be warm while staying in style so I searched and compared for several months until I decided the Arctic Parka was my best option.
Having read all the reviews saying the sizes were small, I tried them in a North Face shop and found out that the sizes fit what they are supposed to fit. I am 5'6" - 110lbs, I always need XS or XXS and so is the case with this coat. XS fits perfectly giving plenty of space for some layers of clothes under it.
It might be that North Face changed the sizes for this year and last season ones were smaller, I do not know since I did not tried those. But I tried the ones for this season and they fit like they are supposed to.
Another thing that worried me was the neck circumference. Some coats have it so small that you cannot wear a thick turtleneck or a scarf. This one is big enough to wear both both.
When you touch it, you can see it is a coat made-to-last. Very well made with attention to every single detail. Let's see how it behaves at 5ºF!!
The coat is great. I'm 5'3, 115 lbs so the coat in xs iis just above my knees. That leg coverage is vital. It's been as low as -17 degrees F and consistently below 0 F for the past week and I have barely been bothered. My face and toes keep me from staying out too long but the rest of me has no fear of 20 below in this thing. I actually remarked that it was so warm out the other day, and later realized that it was no more than 7 below. This coat is for an extremely cold winter. Probably good for Boston and up. The hood is a bit awkward, but otherwise looks pretty nice for what it is.
1st of all, I received this order in 2 or 3 days....thank you Backcountry! The coat fits like custom made dream. I am 5'6" and weigh 145. It comes to just barely over my knees. Size, X-Large. Still some room for a sweater inside if I go to the North Pole. VERY warm, I'm sure it will be perfect for my February trip to see Vitas in concert, in Berlin. Very sturdy and well made. I like the inner sleeves a lot. Nice and snug. One of the best purchases I've ever made. Thrilled with the way it looks...I like the gathering in the back at the waist and the slight flare. It's actually flattering, instead of the usual "elephant look" of most parkas. Picture kind of dark, but you'll get the idea of the length and fit:
If I ever got cold anywhere in this coat....it would not be the truth. This coat is great to walk to church in The size is a little large but I need the extra room in bottom half.
HI! is the fleece removable? I'm actually looking for this
HI! is the fleece removable? I'm actually looking for this type of product, maybe slightly less warm but I want to make sure that the fleece is removable.... would you have any advice on it, you're welcome! thank you all!
If by "fleece" you mean the faux fur trim on the hud, it is removable by a zip. The hood is not, though. But if you mean the fleece cuffs, those cannot be removed from the sleeves.
I love my parka - it is warm, somewhat stylish, has detachable fur on the hood, storm cuffs, fits well and is pretty much all that the other reviewers said.
I've been searching for the perfect winter coat for years and I've finally found it. The fit is great. I definitely recommend sizing down. I am 5'6", 128 lbs, and on the busty side and the size small fits perfectly. The blue color is great -- goes with everything. And it is SO WARM. I've worn it in single digit temps and felt very comfortable. (And I've worn it in 40 degree temps and felt a bit too toasty). I love the cute & functional hood, too. Get this coat!!!
I will be in Northern Canada this year where temperatures can
I will be in Northern Canada this year where temperatures can reach as low as -40. Would you recommend this jacket to keep me warm throughout the long winter here or is there another jacket better suited?
If there's a women's jacket that's warmer, it won't be by much. The shell is windproof, and there is a lot of down in it. The length helps keep it over the blood vessels near the surface of your inner thighs and makes a huge difference in warmth. If you're worried that it might not be enough, look into the Himalayan Parka or some other similar design. My sisters both live in Chicago and they love their Arctic Parkas.
I got one in December, I normally wear Medium and when I ordered Medium it turned out to be too loose, like a tent almost. I had to get a small one although I never had anything in small, I wish I had read your comments earlier. Besides, the black logo makes the jacket look quite ordinary (which in fact I don't like). I bet they make a new model next year but with a white logo again, so that those of us who got this style are tempted to get a new one.
They are cheap because they are last seasons coats and they only have a few of the larger sizes left. Typically anything on for 40 % or more is sort of a clearance
I just love this coat!! I live in New Hampshire and the winters can get really cold. Especially when your standing outside at the base of a mountain during your childrens ski lessons :) Having a coat that covers your bottom is key when trying to stay warm on a windy 15 degree day! The outside material is very thick and durable. Which not only gives added security in wet weather, but also against being torn. I am 5'6", 125lbs and I ordered a small. The fit is perfect! This is not the type of coat you'd wear a bulky sweater under. You would overheat quickly and mobility would be awkward. I do wear a zip-up fleece under when outside for a long period of time. Overall I think I ended up with a good find at the end of my "perfect" jacket hunt!
I love this coat!! I wear it everywhere and never get cold. I get lots of compliments on it. I always had a problem with what coat should I wear in rain, snow, or just cold days. This coat is perfect for all types of weather, and the best thing is it's waterproof. I stay cold in the winter and it keeps me warm without having to layer up on clothing.
Does anyone know if this has dual zips (ie, openable from both collar and hem?) I want to know if you can open it from the hem to make walking easier. Thanks in advance for your reply.
For those of you who bought this coat, especially in black.
For those of you who bought this coat, especially in black. What color is the northface logo? White letters/logo or same color as coat?. The pictures on this website have the same color as the coat. On the actual North Face website, the logo is white. Just has me curious. Thanks
Love this thing! Gave it as a gift to my fiancee, and she totally digs it. Warm, not overly bulky, and still shows her feminine curves. If between sizes, go with the smaller of the two, because runs a bit big.
I'm 5'6 and 120 lbs. I am a size small but sometimes
I'm 5'6 and 120 lbs. I am a size small but sometimes have to buy a medium b/c I have long arms. Can someone tell me if the sleeves are long or give me the measurement of the sleeves?
Bought this for my gf, but had to exchange her S for a XS. She loves it! The shape keeps her feminine-looking, and the fill keeps her warm. Highly recommend!
i would recommend a medium. I'm 5'5 and 150 and a med was perfect. Also note that after you wear it for a while the down will settle a little bit and it becomes looser with time. So don't worry if when you get it its a bit more snug than you would like.
Excellent jacket, so cosy and comfortable. I have the XS, which is a perfect fit and still allows plenty of layering (I am 5'2" & 125lb) during extra cold weather.
Only suggestions for improvement would be fleece line both sides of hand pockets (currently only knuckle side lined), fleece line the collar (currently only the zip garage is lined) and make hood detachable.
All in all, the perfect jacket for our miserable wet winters here in Ireland. Highly recommended!
Would those of you who own this coat say that the sleeves run
Would those of you who own this coat say that the sleeves run long? Better yet, can anyone provide me with the sleeve length from the top of the sleeve (seam) to the cuff on a medium? I know what the size chart says, just wondering if it is accurate. Thanks.
I love my new coat. so far its been pretty warm, and i haven't had to wear anything under it but the real winter in chicago has not hit yet. So i will review again in march.
the only thing i would say is that it seems to run small and alittle snug but other than that i love it. it reminds me of my old eskimo coat when i was a little girl.
Hi, I am 5'0" about about 110 lbs. I'm wondering whether a small or extra small would fit better. I'd probably wear sweaters under it at times. Thanks.
I really REALLY wanted to like this coat. Fits fine (5'1", 120 lbs, size small). Shell seems appropriately rugged enough. Length, pockets, hood, bi-directional zipper... all great. Breast pockets are weird but just ignore them. BUT the WEIRDEST thing... there seems to be a permanent cold spot/strip that extends from the outsides of the arms -- from elbows up towards my the outsides of my shoulders. Felt around that area, didn't notice a distinct seam, tried moving the down around, gave it some time and a few wears -- no luck. Returning it. Will try the Marmot Chelsea coat next.
This coat gets rave reviews, but it didn't fit right. I am broad in the shoulders, and to fit my arms, chest I needed a large, but it looked like a total tent everywhere else. It visually looked sloppy, including the stitching, went right back.
I find that the visual online are not giving me a great idea
I find that the visual online are not giving me a great idea of the green colour for this coat. Is is simliar to the green The North Face Coat, Metropolis Puffer Hood Parka?
I like the style of this coat better - but love the green on the The North Face Coat, Metropolis Puffer Hood Parka. If someone could comment on the difference (if any) that would be great. They are both listed as swamp green....however, online they are not looking that simliar, this coat looks much darker?

Anna, not to be repetitive but you will need to click on the "Chat Now" function on the top right of your screen or call 1-800-409-4502 and talk to a BC representative. They can answer your questions about global shipping.
We recently moved to Chicago and decided to make the investment in this coat after researching. First, I had to be fashionable while getting a really warm coat so it definitely meets that criteria. I am 5'8 and 116 lbs and the small fits perfect. Still have room to wear a layer underneath and the arm length was fine. Very happy with my purchase.
Une taille 42 est égale à la taille de 10 ou 12 selon le fabricant. Vous pouvez vérifier la taille contre votre poids et de taille, car vous risquez de prendre une moyenne ou une grande taille en fonction de votre taille et votre poids.
Hi
I am trying to get hold of the womans north face arctic parka
Hi I am trying to get hold of the womans north face arctic parka in brown, size medium. I am based in the UK. It is available to buy here but seems difficult to get the colour and size I want. Would you ship to the UK? If so what would the costs be? Thanks and Would really appreciate your help
I love this parka-- good length, very light weight and a great color. I originally ordered a Large (I usually wear a size 12) and, while it mostly fit well (if I wasn't wearing a sweater underneath), the arm opening is a little short and tight. Strangely so. It's OK but I think it would be uncomfortable to move around a lot it. I have other North Face coats and shirts and I like how they fit (slim) but this didn't work for me. I tried the XL and, while it is a little too big everywhere else so not quite as flattering, I think I'll like having more ease-- I want to be able to pull this coat on at go out on very cold Minnesota morning to walk my dogs.
Bottom line-- great coat but, like other reviewers, I think it may be helpful to consider a size up for the ease in the arms.
Also- a big SHOUT OUT to Backcountry for making exchanges and return as breeze!

Bonne chance!
I was not sure if the small or medium was going to be the best for me. But I did want to have sufficient room when I stretch my arms forward, and layered a sweater underneath. Did not want any tightness in the back at all. Therefore, the medium was my best choice. I love the color, love the fact that it will keep me dry from snow and rain. But I will not be wearing it for another 7 months or so, since it is now May! The length is great to keep cold and wet off the rear and the upper legs.
I am 5'3" and 155 lb (most of my weight is in my hips).
I am 5'3" and 155 lb (most of my weight is in my hips). All of my measurements are within a medium, except my hips measurement is 1 inch over. I'm trying to figure out whether or not to get a medium or a large. I would like to have the option of wearing a thick sweater underneath. I have a medium NF fleece, but if the coats are the same sort of sizing, I'd definitely get a large. Can anyone help me?
Kyra, my wife was looking at this coat so I have done some research on it. From what I have read I would start with the Medium for a slim fit and a Large if you want a little room to layer.
I bought different colors and sizes. I'm 5,51 feets and 121 lbs : i bought small to put without big pull over and meduim for cold winter and put many pull over. They are light, hight quality, and dress feminin. To find something wrong, we can say why we can't take off the hood. You can put to go to job because dress near the body but conftable. Thanks Backcountry and North face for the quality of the parka. Véronique
I am 110 lbs and 5'2. XS is right fit me!! This coat is really warm in the clod day. I came from tropical island, really scared by Ohio winter weather. This coat help me a lot. Really warm!
The hood on the jacket is attached at all times but its adjustable...The origin of where its made is probably in China or some other country...Most companies get their stuff from overseas and its not made in the US....
The Arctic Parka has a waterproof coat - thats what the HyVent 2L material is all about - its TNF's proprietary waterproof material. Keeps water out but lets you breathe (you won't start to be sweaty inside) and you won't feel like you're wearing a rubber coat.
Bought this coat because I was tired of having my butt cold while walking around, yet I wanted a waterproof cute coat. And this The North Face Artic Parka is great - everything I hoped for and more. I have recycled my umbrella because this coat works better. Best purchase I have made in a long while!
I'm 5'3" and 125lb so I ordered the small but this was way too big so have had to return it. It's a shame because the jacket was very well made and lovely quality. It was very loose at the waist and down the front which made it drafty at this size. I'm amazed at reviews by people shorter and skinnier than me who have found the size small a good fit? Might try the XS but wondering if that will still be too loose...
I'm 5'11 and about 145lbs, and also have a 26 waist. I bought the medium because it fit best around the waist and hips, but it's tight around the shoulders and the sleeves are short. I had tried the large as well, but it was huge!! It seems that there is a very big size difference between their large and medium. It's a great jacket, but it is really cut for someone with narrow shoulder and wider waist. If the waist had a drawstring inside or a belt, it would solve that problem (or at least help).
Im only 5`9 but all legs and arms. This coat is actually kinda short even after I went up a size. I am 130lbs 36-27-37 (measurements just had a baby) and a small fit and I looked hot - minus the fact it was 2 inches too short in the sleeves. I went up a size (I can fit lots of sweaters under there lol) kinda big and sleeves are like an inch short but I can get away with it. I recommend trying it on. Canada goose coats were way shorter than North face so hopefully that comparison helps someone. Honestly I like I have abnormally long arms for my frame which is usually 34-26-36 (who knows if i`ll get my pre-baby bod back though lol)
I'm about the same size, and I usually struggle between a small and xsmall. I go with small with northface jackets because I layer fleeces and other thicker materials. I think it will be too tight with even anything like a sweater underneath. Hope it helps.
Just have 2 words about the jacket......LUV IT!!!!!! I have nothing negative to say about this item. Back country is highly recommended A+++++++ for fast delivery. I would say very reliable company.
Unfortunately, North Face's products are shippable only within the US. You will have to look at the UK range of North Face products for an equivalent parka since the UK range does not have the Arctic Parka.
You can try the Insulated Grace jacket (UK range) which is also a long-length jacket that is waterproof (HyVent) and insulated (100g Heatseeker) but it will not be as warm as the Arctic Parka which has 550-fill down.
I absolutely LOVE this coat!! I commute to work by train and then have to walk several blocks to my office. This winter has been unbearably cold, but this coat is SO warm! I like that it is longer (about knee-length) so it keeps my legs warm, and has a hood for those really blustery days. The fur trim is removable, which is a nice feature.
PS: I am 5'1'' and about 110 lbs and the Small fits perfectly! I got this coat in brown - and love it. A little more fun than the classic black winter coat.
I think a medium would be good on you. What is your waist measure? I was wearing a medium last year with a 31-32" waist and it fit well. I have lost about 25 lbs so I will have to sell this coat and buy the small or xs. It is a very classy coat, I got the burgundy color they offered last year. If you have questions about it you can email me at theonlyonenottaken@ hotmail.com Cheers!
I live in Northern Alaska, -50 + windchill this coat kept me warm. I am 5'8" and 145lbs, curvy, at first I ordered the medium. It fit great and would have worked as a town jacket only because I was unable to layer enough under it to keep me warm while icefishing. So I sent it back and ordered the large instead. Much more freedom of movement and I can layer my down vest, two fleece jackets and snowpants under it easily. The only problem with it is that there is no way to close up the coat in the middle, although there is an elastic gathering in the back, it doesn't close up enough in the large size to keep the wind from blowing up under it. So I did my best at sewing a drawstring into the middle... The brown color is very nice, rich and dark. I would recommend this for a windy/wet place, otherwise the triple C coat I think is warmer (longer and puffier). : )
Hi, I'm interested in buying the Arctic Parka coat size xs
Hi, I'm interested in buying the Arctic Parka coat size xs blue pool. if you send to the UK? if so, what are the cost of shipping and how long will it wait?
It is a little loose but I can use it for the raincoat or the down for the cold friggid winter. I can wear more clothing inside and tighten the belt. I love it. I hope it come longer length. Thank you. HSL

I want to buy a down parka that was made in USA. I can't find any reference to the manufacturing country of origin for the down parka's on this site. Can anyone tell me if any of these were made in USA?

The 2 chest and 2 front hand warmer pockets all come with zips. These pockets all come designed with a small covering flap that helps direct water/rain away from the zips, helping to keep the pockets dry. The internal media pocket is zipped too, with an additional slot for the earphones. This jacket is waterproof based on North Face's HyVent 2L (2-layered) material fabric on the exterior. This will help keep you dry in wetter wintry conditions.
I have been looking for a knee length down coat that was warm and stylish. This coat fills the bill. It keeps me warm all day walking around campus in the snow and wind here in Central PA. I bought an XL and am glad I did. It fits snug through the chest and arms but has a great fitted look unlike those other down coats that make you look like you're wearing a bunch of tires. The spice brown color is very pretty too. I think I will have this coat for a long long time.
I am Generally a 2X or 18/20, and I am seeing some consumers saying this coat fits big. Do you think that I would be able to fit the XL?? I am not seeing too many styles on this website that are plus size except men's styles, and I am very feminine.
