I bought these last year for snowboarding. I run pretty hot so I got these for the colder days. I found they were really breathable and super comfortable so I ended up wearing them on warm days too. I personally can get away with just these under my pants most of the time and still be comfortable. Best part is, no more riding up of extra layers. Highly recommended.
I'm 6' 160lbs and I got the mediums.

Warm and comfortable, BUT will not stay below knees. Pull up during normal standing and sitting posture. Returned. Too bad, I was hopeful and like Merino wool.
Has anyone worn these under cycling shorts as a base layer for
Has anyone worn these under cycling shorts as a base layer for colder days? If so, how'd these work?

I have the full-length version of these pants and have worn them cycling a few times. The only thing I noticed was that the crotch was roomy compared to my cycling shorts, and bunched on one side or the other. It never caused me much of a problem as far as chafing; Merino is pretty soft, and the seams are low-profile. Very warm, and worth their weight in gold.

Great material, a little short for 3/4 length
February 14, 2011
The merino is top notch, overall fit is fantastic. I wore these for over 12 days without washing them and they did not smell. The only gripe I have is the legs are a little short, could be an inch longer and use better elastic to hold them down. I had a couple days where the bottoms rode up and created a gap between my socks and baselayer...which is a real pain because I had to pull my pants up and fix during mid-activity. I'm also 5'-7" and got the large size, so you'd figure they'd be a bit longer. I did solve the problem using extremely long socks though, so not the end of the world.

Great pair. Super soft and comfortable. Great material and love the length (just below the knee)You will never want to get out of them.
Great, just a little short

I don't agree with high waistband reviews, it seems fine to me. Material is great, but they tend to ride up over my knees when sitting or taking a big step up. 1/2 length is probably more accurate.
High Waist Band not cool Urkel
March 30, 2012
So i just received these via steep and cheap and i have to say out of the bag i am disappointed. if you look at them the distance from the bottom of the crotch to the top of th waist band is almost a foot meanin these fit just like the stoic merino boxers that rode up past my belly button. After trying they on this confirms my fears. they sit at the navel...if i fold the waist band over they fit normally. i am keeping them but with reservations. if stoic can fix the high waist band issues these would be killer
I will never go back to full length!

Once you have a pair of these you will never go back to full length. Very durable, great fit. I am 5'10 and use M. Very flexible, the wool is killer. I put these in the dryer all the time and it has not damaged the fabric on bit. Very breathable, super soft, nice flat stiching.
Great base layer

These are very comfy, I haven't had any itching issues and they generally ride where they are meant too. The only thing that takes a little getting used to is the 3/4 length, which ultimately I like, it was about 5 or 6 wearings before it didn't feel weird.

Great base layer, doesn't develop stink even after several days on the slopes. Soft non-itch wool. Could be a little loger. I'm 6'2" and there is a 2" gap between top of boarding socks and bottom of bottoms.

Very comfortable, keeps me dry and warm , Love the fit

I just got my pair, and like several of the reviews below, I find them too short. They only go a couple inches below my knee. I'm concerned about them riding up. If they're paired with ski socks, they overlap fine and seem more likely to stay put. When I wore them around the house with a pair of tall hiking socks (the socks and baselayer met and didn't overlap), they rode up very quickly and left a gap. The material is great though. The wool is very soft and they seem well made.
I'm 5' 10" and 155 lbs. 32" waist and inseam. A medium fit well in the waist.
Picture attached is with ski socks, they barely overlap the top.
Great base for skiing.

These things are awesome. I have always gotten long underwear and pulled them up so that they didnt make any strange spots inside my boots. I never liked having my pants on the inside of my boot, but other people that doesnt bother. On some of my long underwear, I would pull them up to my calf, and they would be a little tight and restricting. I always thought that was just what had to be done if I didnt want to cut them. I found these and thought finally someone knows what I need to just ski. Not only are they the right size and fit that I want so they come in above my boot, but they are merino as well. Soft and wont smell if I decide to ski for a week straight and only wanted to get one pair. I decided to get more than that by the way, so no, I dont walk around in dirty undies all the time. Get a pair, theyre pretty awesome.
No more bunching in my boot
December 6, 2010
3/4 plus the stoic socks = seamless fit and no more bunching in my boots from both socks and long underwear. Of course they are warm too.

I am 6'0" and these are just not long enough. Like another reviewer said, they start to ride up at my knees almost immediately. Otherwise the fit and feel are great. I just don't want to spend a day skiing with these things balled up in my kneepits. If you are a little shorter then they're probably great.

Picked up a pair of these towards the end of the ski season last year. Very comfortable and initially appeared to work great. The only problem I have is they tend to ride up to above my knees leaving a gap between my socks and my baselayer. I do like the material and these are warm - they just need to have some stronger elastic to keep them from riding up.
My new favorite base layer

I absolutely love these and have a couple pair now to use for skiing. The 3/4 cut is great and I don't want to wear full length bottoms anymore.
August 11, 2010
These are a great fabric and I have many other stoic merino products I've been happy with. However, these seemed to keep ridding up and I was constantly reaching under my rolled up pant legs to pull them down. I felt the could have been a bit tighter on me and that might have helped with the ridding up, but these simply didn't cut it. Could be nice for backcountrying skiing, but with all the movement involved, I'd guess they'd ride up there too. I used mine mainly for climbing, for the record.
Excellent long underwear for skiing.
May 20, 2010
These 3/4-length long underwear bottoms are perfect for skiing, as they make having to pull up the bottoms of your long underwear to keep them out of your ski boots (socks only) unnecessary, allowing for proper ski boot fit.
