Stoic Hadron Down Vest - Men's

Item # SIC0139

Fire back at the mountain's bone-chilling cold with the ultimate warmth of the Stoic Men's Hadron Down Vest and its 850-fill goose down insulation. At a feathery 6.8-ounces, this vest keeps it simple by protecting your core temperature without weighing you down. As for sleeves, the Hadron Vest doesn't need no stinking sleeves; you're faster, cooler, and more flexible without them. Stash this highly-packable vest in your pack so that you always have a down layer handy for the high-alpine freeze or a cold down-day in town.

  • Pertex Quantum shell is highly-breathable to allow sweaty vapor to escape from within so you feel comfortable, not stifled, beneath this vest
  • 3-D Ergonomic Construction gives this vest an athletic, active cut and allows room for layers underneath
  • Backcountry.com is the exclusive US distributor for Stoic products

Bottom Line:

Lose the sleeves and bring the heat.

No pockets please

By:
October 11, 2012

Agree with the other reviewers that said no to pockets. There are myriad vests our there with pockets. But few truly good ultralight vests at a price point that many of us can afford. If your hands are just sitting in your pockets most of the time then you probably don't need a 850 fill jacket that weighs 6oz.

Great!

Good sized arm holes. Feather light. Comfy. Warm. What more could i want? I think the best part is that because its so slim, it fits great under a shell. Perfect layer.

The vintage is more of a eggplant color. Just FYI. Took a bit of flak from the guys at first, then they got jealous.

Stuffed

Didn't know if it would work, but it stuffs into the chest pocket pretty easily with little stress on the zippers. It's stuffed size is about 6 x 4 x 2.5 - 3ish thick.

Fantastic

By:
December 12, 2011

This vest would very easily earn five stars in my book, however, there are no pockets for my hands, this is understandable considering its weight, however, I want me some hand pockets and would gladly have the vest weigh 2 oz more... cant attest to durability yet, as I've only had it a week or two, but I will update this review. Im 5'11" about 160-170lb and the medium fits great with room for a light hoody underneath.

Agree with this writer's comments about the need for pockets. I can never decide whether 'lightness' is an excuse to save a few bucks by eliminating pockets, or not? But I'm with the reviewer---add pockets.

I understand that it is made to be ultralight, however as the customer and user of the gear, I am entitled to my opinion as to what would make the product better, in this case, pockets for your hands for me would do just that. Its not like a gave it a single star because it wasn't exactly as I wanted.

Yes, these garments are designed with an ultralight gear list in mind.

If your not concerned with weight, you shouldn't be looking at an 850fp vest with a light petex shell.

If you shave an oz or 2 off every item in your pack youll easily save a few pounds....think about it.

210lbs 6'3" tall and 38" waist. Would I go L or XL? Appreciate what the size chart indicates - am looking for close, functional fit.

nice vest

By:
February 22, 2012

The color is really nice, like a subdued purple kind of thing. It fits well under a shell and keeps you really warm skiing or walking/hiking. The lack of hand pockets is weird but hasn't bothered me.

Nice fitting

By:
June 11, 2012

What I like the most about this vest is the fit. It has a broader shoulder cut and slim waist which is best for my build compared to the rei and Patagonia vests I tried on. I am 5'11" 180lbs and the medium fits perfect. Very packable and weighs almost nothing. Pertex seems to be of good quality as I have had no down leak as of yet. Lack of pockets bother some people but I haven't noticed it honestly. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the eggplant color with the yellow zippers takes some getting used to. The new models seem to have a better selection though.

Super warm. Super light. Super stuffable. Great layering piece, my only gripe is that it has not hand pockets, but when under shell it don't matter.

Great gear!!

By:
January 28, 2012

Had this out several times so far for our weekend prep-hikes and it's great. Very warm and VERY light. Mine is a large and weights in at 7oz. Temps have been in the 20s and can't wear it while actually hiking but before the hike It has kept me toasty with only a Long Sleeve T under it. IT perfroms exactly as advertised and exactly as I would expect from Stoic. These guys make great gear!!!

Everything but.....

By:
December 10, 2011

I love everything about this vest. The thickness and weight are phenomenal. It's definitely a minimalist vest as there are few pockets. At the end of the day I had to return it because of the color. I found it too hard to wear. If there were more colors like black or blue this would be a 5 star and a keeper.

light, warm, simple, no hand pockets

By:
November 23, 2011

got the vintage/vintage. pretty crazy colors. i didnt care as long as it fit well and worked. it does.
6'2"180lbs thin build. Med size juuuust right. and its nice and long in the torso. only one pull on bottom to keep it simple.

didnt even think to check it for hand pockets. so far every time i put it on i zip it up and just want to slide my hands into some pockets....buuuut, no! on the upside to this, keeps it very slim and layerlike, which is its purpose so whatever. ill deal.

besides pockets/color(personal pref) i am very impressed.

only missing one thing for what it is. doublesided zipper for chesty pocket(since it seems to be made for stuffing itself, like my NFdiaz) little detail. other than that i can find nothing bad.

just have to wait and see for durability. but as long as i dont light it on fire i think itll be fine.

Better than expected

I didn't think it was going to look or feel as good as it does or be as thin as it is. I got the Vintage/Vintage and it's a pretty sweet color, bright zippers. The material feels great and it's super light weight. The fit is pretty accurate, I'm 5'11" about 180 and the Medium fits me really well. All around sweet vest.
