This is the second jacket I bought to replace my Norrona Lofoten Shell. I think I've found a winner!
Fit is great (I'm 5'8", 180 lbs, and in an XL). The shoulders are almost too tight but OK, the sleeves are nice and long, there is plenty of room in the chest for all the backcountry ski accoutrement that end up stuffed in there (beacon, camera, gloves, snacks, radio, etc... I start looking like Santa pretty quickly in the BC!), the only thing I still need to check is the fit of the hood over my ski and climbing helmets.
Color is great (pink), and styling is very contemporary and cool.
The thumb holes in the wrist gaiters are a little odd, haven't decided if I like them yet or not. The location of the hole seems to be a little bit off, and the thumb hole a little small. Minor details!
Overall, a very feminine and flattering jacket and I can't wait to use it this weekend!
Thanks for another top notch product, Stoic! xoxo
Edit: took it out in a crazy PNW storm today and it worked great! The hood easily fit over my ski helmet. I stayed dry. Thumb holes were fine. Would prefer a larger sleeve opening so the jacket fit over my short gloves, but that's not a biggie. Excellent jacket!
I have this and I'm always cold, even sitting in 70 degree weather, however, if I layer this jacket with about 4 layers I stay warm, but it fits a little too snug with all the layers so I would suggest going up a size. I'm 5'5" and weigh about 135.
I loved this shell when I first got it. Unfortunately, it has not worn well at all after a pretty light backcountry winter and spring year. The fabric shows rubbing and fraying at the cuffs and at the neck. Won't be buying Stoic again as I think they look cool, but use lesser quality fabrics.

I bought this jacket as a gift for my girlfriend...its awesome, but I have one question...how do you clean it???there's no care instructions...Thanks!!!
I have been in a search for a better BC and powder jacket. This fits the bill! I took 5 major spills in powder today and was dry as a whistle. The powder skirt is a must and is awesome. The velcro to tighten the sleeves is great. I bought a size L (usually wear a medium), which has turned out to be a great decision - i've been able to fit a wind layer and insulated jacket underneath on absolutely freezing days (in picture - 3 degrees on Thanksgiving). All day long I kept telling my husband how much I loved my jacket and how perfect it is for powder skiing. It's obviously great for other things as well - I've taken it cross country skiing also, which has been great because that is such a work out - you don't really want to wear anything heavy. I'd recommend it to anyone!
I bought this for my girlfriend- 5'8" 115lbs. Size medium fits her well, a SM was too short in the torso. She has long arms and this jacket fits her very well, and looks great. The waterproofing is adequate and the jacket seems to breathe pretty well (always could be better). The medium size allows for some room to layer underneath and the jacket has a nice smooth inside (unlike the Welder) which doesn't snag on fleece or other soft materials. Thumb holes in wrist gaiters are a nice touch for keeping extra warm. Pretty happy with the quality thus far!
When are you getting more sizes in black????? I want to get this
When are you getting more sizes in black????? I want to get this jacket for my wife who is 5'7", 120, slender built. Any sizing suggestions? She wears a small in most brands but I heard that Stoic runs small.
Hey Jon. Questions about inventory tend to languish here. Your best bet will be to click on the "Chat Now" link at the top of the page. As far as sizing goes I haven't found stoic to run small, but I only have mens products.
ok- I have to admit I have a little problem. I can't stop buying jackets. This one is definately my current favorite! I paired it up with the Isis down sweater and was toasty on the -15 degree days in Crested Butte! By itself, very comfortable on the bluebird spring days. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the thumb holes do not line up comfortably. The VERY nice folks at SAC sent me a second one, but the same issue. (Maybe my thumbs are in the wrong place??) Other than that this coat is the bomb! Stands up well to my abuse: trees, rocks, etc. I am 5'4" and 120 lbs. the small fits just how I like- not to snug, long arms, a very nice fit. The pink is such a fun color.
I bought this for my wife because I really like the men's version I picked last December. To me, the best feature of this jacket is the hood. Every manufacturer says that their hood is helmet compatible but in reality, they don't work too well. On the Bombshell, the hood rocks. It covers the helmet extremely well and still allows you to move your head around. It also cinches down around the face to limit exposure without constricting movement. Both of our Bombshells have withstood big wind, heavy snow, and lots of tree branches with no problems. As for sizing, she's 5' 6" and about 135 - a Large works great with some room for layering. One thing to remember is that this is truly a shell - there is no inner liner (nylon or otherwise). So you really need to layer under it for warmth. And oh yeah, she loves the pink.
First I ordered a size up based on all of the reviews, but had to go back to my normal size...definitely still have plenty of room for many layers. The medium was way too broad across my chest, small is lovely cut and fit. Used in backcountry and at the lifts and the material works like a charm... great investment! Bought this is pink...looks great! Total shredding betty!
I needed a new shell for skiing this season and purchased this in a medium (135 lbs., 5"6). It fits perfectly solo, and even combined with the Stoic Synthetic jacket snuggled underneath. The best feature if you use an iPod while skiing, there is an accommodating feature inside for easy access and storage.
Write your question here...This jacket looks like exactly what
Write your question here...This jacket looks like exactly what I need, except for the white color. I'd destroy it in a heartbeat. Any other colors coming soon?
This jacket is awesome! I wore it snowboarding with a fleece under it and stayed warm and dry the entire day. I wear it on most days w/ or w/o a fleece or sweatshirt depending on the temperature, but it is light enough that it doesn't add much bulk and allows you to move freely without any constriction. I highly recommend this jacket...plus the look of it is awesome too!
My boyfriend bought me this jacket and pants combo for X-mas and I have been loving it. It has a really feminine form (compared to my old Patagonia getup) and has kept me warm and dry on the ski hill so far. Some of the other ladies here said they needed to size up to be able to layer up but I have found my normal size to be just perfect, even on subzero days. I am 5'9" and 135 lbs in a medium jacket and pants. The only problems I have had are that the thumb gaiters were sewn in the wrong sides so I've had to have the jacket replaced under warranty. Also, the jacket comes with button snaps so that you can connect the powder skirt to your pants so it doesn't ride up and let snow or wind get down the small of your back, but the pants don't have any sort of loops to connect them to. This seems like a simple design issue that should be addressed for a matching jacket and pants such as this, which is why I can only give it the 4 out of 5 stars. Overall though these are pretty minor problems considering how well this jacket performs for the price. I definitely recommend it.

I am really glad I bought this jacket. I have found it to be very versatile. I have skied in it a bunch and also used it to run in. I think the cut of the jacket is very flattering even when you have to layer under it, which is pretty impressive. One of the things that I really liked was that this jacket does breathe well for a shell. I can run in it on cold days and stay warm since all that moisture isn't staying inside the shell. I have also been surprised to find that even on some of the colder days skiing here in Park City I often can get away with just a wicking base-layer under it.The only thing (and this is a little nitpicky) that has bothered me so far is when my hood is down, the collar is just wide enough to allow wind down my back. Its fine when you have something else under it but when you are just wearing a base layer it can be a little chili. I am guessing wearing a scarf or neck gaiter would fix that though.I am 5'8 and weight 155lbs, I bought a large. It fits great even with layering.
I have been looking for a ski jacket that does not make me look like a puffy box. This has a nice feminine fit and I love the pink color. I ordered a Medium at first but, while it fit, there wasn't much room for layering underneath. I had to return it for the Large. I was worried it would be too big but, it is perfect. I would definitely size up if you want some warm layers under this jacket. Also, keep your eyes on SAC for great deals on this jacket. I got a great deal on the price and couldn't be happier with this jacket.

This jacket is not insulated, it is just a shell. Stoic does have an insulated option, so I'd check that out.

It's just a shell, but you can easily layer a fleece or a primaloft sweater underneath it and you'll be warm enough.
