Stoic Bombshell Insulated Jacket - Women's

Item # SIC0121

Outside it's a bitterly-cold and brutally-wet storm day in November, but beneath Stoic's cream-of-the-crop Women's Bombshell Insulated Jacket, it's just another day in paradise. Its flexible and slightly stretchy, three-layer Bombshell material keeps you bone dry and moving freely, while Cirrus synthetic insulation provides toasty warmth without extra bulk. Stomp out a skin track or charge up a bootpack and escape from the stifling feeling of sweaty vapors thanks to highly-breathable shell fabric and easy-to-reach underarm vents. Supremely durable, fully-welded construction and a streamline fit complete the package. As the flagship in Stoic's line of women's winter outerwear, the Bombshell balances ultimate comfort with uncompromising weather protection.

  • 3-D ergonomic fit offers uninhibited mobility without drowning you in excess fabric—if you tend to like a roomier fit, feel free to size up
  • 100-Grams of lightweight, synthetic Cirrus insulation fights off the pre-dawn chills without unnecessary weight or bulk
  • Mechanical-stretch Bombshell fabric shuns external moisture, foul weather, and wind thanks to 20K-rated waterproofing and 15K-rated breathability
  • Built-in Recco reflector increases your odds of being recovered from a slide by rescue teams equipped with Recco-compatible search-and-rescue equipment
  • Thumb-holed wrist gaiters and a fully adjustable hood seal you off from the elements, while mesh-backed underarm zips vent heat on the skin track
  • Backcountry.com is the exclusive US distributor for Stoic products

Seriously cool

By:
March 12, 2012

This jackets fits pretty true to size. I am 5'5, 120lbs, and i bought the Bombshell in the small, it hits just below the hip, and fits loose in shoulder and body. NO layering necessary. I stood in a snowstorm watching pee wee ski racing for 3 hours in my bombshell - and wasn't bothered a bit : You could have a t-shirt on under this thing, and still be toasty. I like the hand gaiters on the sleeves, but the thumb hole is finished with a plastic/rubber cuff, and it was cutting into the base of my thumb by the end of the day. The waist gaiter is nice - in that it actually stays put!

Just what I wanted...

By:
December 29, 2011

Asked for it for Christmas, and my husband got it for me.
I am 5'6" 115, so could ~probably~ go for a XS (that's what I wear in Stoic inner layers), because unlike most outerwear/skiwear companies Stoic doesn't assume all XSmalls are 5 feet tall, and the length and arms are nice and long, but I wanted the option of more room to layer. Since it's nicely fitted, it doesn't look too big.
Warm and pretty sweet, now if we could only get some snow, I could test it for real...

So which did you go with. I ordered both and I'm trying to decide. What are you finding in the way of pants that fit you well?

Were you happy with the XS? Could you put a mid weight fleece underneath. I am 5'5" and 110 and often in Stoic jackets I size up to the small for the layering room through the shoulder and the little bit of extra length.

Chicks dig it

By:
December 12, 2011

Bought this for a ladyfriend of mine that was cold, she is now warm, and now she wants me. Was it all the jackets fault? I would like to think so. Thanks for making women love me Stoic!

definitely doesn't fit over my helmet. However, I can pull the jacket up to my nose even with my helmet on, which is nice on windy lift rides.

Turquoise, NOT sky blue

By:
February 24, 2012

Been hunting for months for the perfect insulated softshell. This one has a wonderfully soft finish, nice long sleeves, gorgeous scrolly stitching @lining, excellent high collar which may negate need for a neckup, perfect amount of insulation, hood fits over my helmet, but just barely. But the color is NOT as pictured online - it's an intense turquoise. I captured the color with camera, but not quite the intensity, and only in natural light. As I am trying to coordinate with other bright blues in my ensemble, the jury's still out.

what I was looking for

By:
February 9, 2012

Bought this jacket b/c of the good reviews. I was having a hard time finding a jacket that was warm and not bulky. On really cold days, I put a fleece or light jacket underneath. Most days I hit the slope with a single baselayer shirt underneath.

I'm 5'5" and 120 pounds and got the small size. This allows me to put a fleece underneath. I got the shallow/white (teal blueish) color jacket. I really like the color too.

The gloves that come with the jacket are sort of silly looking (boxing gloves style), but they are so warm! And, they were free so no complaints.

you don't need anything else to layer up with this - honestly, i just wear a t-shirt under this, it doesn't need any kind of over, under layering

Just as a follow up here, I was thinking this bombshell looked like a softshell compared to mine. What I was actually looking for was the stoic luft hoody.

Doubtful, seems like overkill? The bombshell hardshell is just as waterproof as the bombshell insulated....

Great Jacket

By:
December 30, 2011

I purchased this jacket based on the reviews it received and I was impressed. I bought an XS since I am only 4'10.

Pros- Very warm (I ski in New England and could have taken off a layer underneath), not bulky, light weight, lots of pockets, fitted, good range of motion in the shoulders.

Cons- sleeves are long and taper at the wrists so they dont work very well with the gloves I currently use. I had to have someone help me tuck them in every time, might be different for those who like their gloves on the outside of the jacket, powder skirt is too tight to use comfortably (but its not like I will need that on the east coast very much), one of the rubber zipper pulls came off on the 3rd day of use.

Over all, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend it to others.

Thin in the shoulders

By:
December 13, 2011

Both my roommate and I are former swimmers and the XL jacket was too narrow in the shoulders for either one of us. I am a true L/XL for my shoulders and chest, and I could only zip this half way. My roommate, who is usually a M/L got it zipped but it was too tight over her shoulders and across her chest. It is a great jacket (the black/turquoise looks awesome in person), I just wish it wasn't so narrow up top.

Super Happy with This Jacket

By:
December 16, 2011

I got this jacket for my girlfriend. She is always cold, whether we walk the dog or go out to the mountain to ski or snow shoe. She is 5'10" and used to be a rower; I ordered her a medium and the jacket fit like it was tailored for her (I would reccomend a large if she intended to layer a lot, although she gets a Stoic base layer and a sweatshirt underneath). It looks great on her and most importantly, she is really warm in the jacket and wears it almost every day now. I have ordered several other Stoic products and I have to say that I am a big fan, and knowing that my girlfriend likes this jacket and it keeps her warm makes me really happy.
Also thank you Backcountry.com for all of your help. Your customer service department was amazing with all of the help.

Super Fabulous Coat!

By:
December 8, 2011

This coat was purchased as a last minute addition to my So UT trip in Nov. My 20 year old Marmot shell was loosing it's water resistance as well as the velcro on the cuffs.

It is a great combo of cold weather protection with a low profile status. I love the way it covers my neck and wrists (The thumb loops are a fun addition!). I didn't give the skirt much of a test run because I wasn't hiking through any snow.. The pockets are great, lots of them and various sizes.

The sizing seems appropriate. I ordered a Med and it fit just like I wanted it to.

Overall, I'm really happy with the coat. I'd recommend it! =)

Great!

By:
December 7, 2011

I love the insulation on this jacket and how form fitting it is for being one. It doesn't look like I'm wearing a box! Color is great too and I love the purple lining. Very soft and repels water and wind great. (haven't taken it to the snow yet, but so far so good in the rain) I'm just under 5'6" and an athletic 140lbs and the medium fits nicely with room for a sweatshirt underneath if I want. 4 stars only because I do feel like I look a bit puffy when I wear it, however I think that is probably more due to my build. Definitely not as slim as the model in the picture. Oh well.

if momma aint happy...

By:
November 14, 2011

Bought this coat for my wife. She normally wears a Medium, but we went with a Large so she could layer.

Bomber construction. Love the purple liner (black coat).

Like most women, she is always cold. This jacket is warm as hell. Would definitely buy again.

Based on features and price - bought the 'shallow' expecting, like in the picture BLUE. Unfortunately it is a bright GREEN! Even though it's a great jacket, my husband just says it is so not a good looking color! It's going back.
