Spy Zed Goggles w/Free Extra Lens

Item # SPY0226

Flip down the Spy Zed Goggle w/Free Extra Lens and spot your tree line. Spy made the Zed with a tough Unibody frame for maximum durability that doesn't back down from giant booters or obstacle-laden chutes. Spy's Scoop ventilation system eliminates lens fogging all day long, as long as you take proper care of your goggles. Dual lenses with total UV protection, and an anti-fog and anti-scratch coating further enhance and protect your vision on the hill. Dual density face foam molds to your face better than a junior-high paper-maché mask and features moisture-wicking Dri-Force fleece. Dual-adjustment straps customize the Spy Zed Goggles' fit, and silicone ribbing secures to your headgear.

Bottom Line:

Zed's not dead anymore, Frenchy.

Ummm... better than people are saying

By:
April 13, 2010

As im reading other peoples reviews, i just have to ask myself one question.... Do you people really know what you are saying??? Some people are complaining about not being able to see the snow, so ummmm change your lense. Not every lense is good for every condition. Especially that when you buy these they usually come with a reflective/persimmon lense. So if you are riding low light, then you need to switch to persimmon, and day riding change to a reflective lense. These are things that if people dont know what they are talking about then dont add it in to your reviews. I have had 2 pairs of the Zeds and so far i have had no problems with them at all. I dont have a super big head(hat size 7 1/4) and these fit just as good as when my buddy is wearing them (hat size 8). they fit perfect under my RED MUTINY helmet, and bec of the crazy flexy material they are made from, they conform true to your face. they dont fog up, the vision is suuuuper clear, and they can take a beating. I wouldnt say that these are the best goggles that spy has out in their line-up, but they are definately top 3. The perripheral vision is crisp and the venting is solid. All in all, depending on the price you pay, its a great goggle to get. and if you do end up with these, you will not be dissapointed at all

Great Review Kris-Comments like "they let a lot of air in" and "fog up" in the same review should raise questions in any reasonable person's mind. Be wary of the jobbers! These goggles vent very and are a steal with 2 lenses.

These are the best goggles for the money at $62 especially with the second lens. These simply do not fog and are extremely comfortable, and fit almost any helmet well. They are medium to large sized. I ski hard and sweat a ton, and these are better than any scott, smith or oakley I have spent over $100 on. Buy em and you will not be sorry. Mirror lens for sunny days, persimmon for cloudy ones...I bought another set so I don't have to change the lens...It is not difficult, I just loved them...

Good goggles

By:
January 21, 2009

The two lenses work great, the persimmon is really nice for flat light days and isn't too dark for riding at night. The mirror lens blocks a good amount of light, great for the bright days, so they make for a solid combo.

The frame is a bit on the smaller side and the strap is a bit short, but not too much so. They fit fine with my size L Bern Baker. No fog issues, but I would like a little more peripheral vision, I have to look over my shoulder a little more than I would like. For 35 on WM, I really can't complain too much though.

The frame is very flexible so you should be able to pull it apart and the lens will pop out. To put the new lens in, it's usually easiest to start at the bridge of the nose and then work your way around securing the lens into the frame.

Here's a good YouTube video that shows how to do it:

Got the black frame with blue spectra lens. Used them in really low light and was very happy with them. They didn't fog up at all. Thought the look of the blue mirror would have only been good in sunshine but it was really solid in flat light. Fit well with red helmet. I had oakleys before and the high intensity yellow lens is better but if $90 is your budget instead of $150 for the oakleys you can't go wrong with these. I haven't tried the 2nd lens yet but that is a pretty sweet bonus.

Compared to Oakley O Frame

By:
November 2, 2009

These goggles didn't fit very well, you can see how the curve where it meets your face is a lot more intense than my Oakley O Frames. If you have a bigger face you might want to avoid these, they'll be kind of tight and uncomfortable.

Solid

By:
January 6, 2011

These goggles are great, never had a problem with them fogging up or anything. They fit my face perfectly, and while they are fairly large, they aren't so big that they make look like a space alien. The field of vision is fantastic, and the mirrored lens offers crisp and clear vision in bright conditions, yet light enough so you can see even at night. I've taken a few nasty spills where they've flown off my head, and each time they survived unscathed. All in all, solid pair of goggles.

I wanna get the grey denim with the persimmon lense. I usually ride powder, with sunny days would this be a good choice? Also, i want something that will not fog up easily and it says these won't fog 'if you take care of them'...what exactly does this mean? I don't plan on scratching them but from normal wear and tear, will i have fog issues later on? Also with the extra lense, can I get a different kind of lense for when I go night boarding or will the extra lense be the same?

By:

Basically 'taking care of them' means that you dont smash them up, dont care, and scratch the shit outta them. If you keep them in decent condition, they will perform as good as the day you got them. These vent very well, have great optical clarity, and have a nice comfortable fit. Persimmon lenses are great for the night, but not so much for the day unless you get mirrored persimmon. They dont look like the 'fire' lenses that you see with Oakleys or VZ, but still have a tint for the day. So those are more of a universal lense that are good for day and alright for the night. They will probably come with a persimmon lense for the night and whatever lense you choose with the goggle(ie, either a mirrored or reflective).Hope this helps

These are pretty tight. For the money, and the free lens you can't really go wrong. They look real sick. Everything is nice, except the peripheral vision and unfortunately they fogged up on me pretty good. For So Cal riders, no worries, but these couldn't handle a sick Tahoe dump sesh. I'm giving them to my girl and getting some nicer ones. When you think about it, Goggs are a pretty important piece of the set, so I'm down to pop for the expensive ones. Just sayin!

As for function, these are great, they don't fog up much, and I lived in Oregon where it is sloppy wet and sweaty when you hike. Also the multiple lenses is very nice. But, if youre looking for maximum field of view, these are a little small. If you find these on whiskey, snatch em up, cause its a deal! But otherwise, I would recommend oakley or electric simply for field of view.

They look sweet and they're all flexy so i feel like they'd fit most people's face. When I wear a helmet they fit pretty well with that too. The only thing I would rather have is the spy soldier but my wallet likes cheaper stuff. I wouldn't suggest using the mirror lens on a cloudy day though, you'll get hurt that way.

By:
April 16, 2010

I got a pair from whiskey about 2 years ago and they still rip. The fit is a little weird with a G9 helmet, there is some pressure on the nose, but otherwise they are awesome. They never, i repeat, never fog with the silver mirror lens. However the free bonus lens fogged up the minute I put it in the goggle. Doesn't matter to me though cuz once I popped the other lens back on clear pastures for the whole day. I've even gotten them wet with snow on the inside and once the inside was blotted dry i was ok for the rest of the day. All in all, great goggles, and a large variety of lenses out there if you do want to swap.

I got this gogle with mirror pink lens and in the faux denim look. First off, not the best looking gogle, but it on par with my spy blizzards that it replaced for function, comfort and fit.No issues fogging for the first 5 rides (so far) the rose mirror lens is AMAZING. Good in bright light, excellent in low light and even in a white out I had to lead the way out while my friends had yellow oakley wisdoms on and were fully blind. Helmet compatable with my Giro g9 helmet (no google gap :) )The only issue i had was with slight fogging up. This may be due to the fact I was done up for a -20 celcius day and it turned out to be around -5 but one good bomb at full speed, the gogle vents did their job and cleared up quickly.I would say these are worth every penny on Brociety or SAC and I would purchase again.... just not the "vibrant" colors ;)

nope, what you see on the page is it...yes its a mens model, its just some phsycadellic pattern that looks pretty sick if you ask me. but from a techical standpoint oakley lenses are probably the most high quiality in the market...they are made out of optically correct plutonite, and are spherical (match the shape of your eye), both eliminate distortion almost compltley...the lenses on these are cindrical (flat), which means that your feild of vision will be warped at the sides

Review Title

By:
October 29, 2009

These goggles are wonderful if you can get them on sale at Whiskey or Brociety. If you are planning on paying full price I feel you would be really silly not to go with the Oakley A Frames. The nice thing about these goggles is they DO come with that extra lens. That is great if you are on a budget (who isnt right) and ride day and night. The second lens that came with mine was a night lens and it is fairly easy to switch out. No second lens case though, which sucks because what are you supposed to do with it once you take off the protective plastic film and use it for the first time? Although the field of view on these is much better than I experienced with the Dragons I previously owned, again, they dont compare to the optical correctness of the Oakley A Frames for almost the same price. Fogging is minimal as long as you take care of them. If you are a somewhat experienced rider and are looking for some steezy goggles to get you a date - pick these up! It will work (trust me). If you care more about performance or are planning on getting your first pair of goggles and are paying anywhere near full price - check out the Oakley A Frames.

Great goggles, picked them up for 30 with extra lens, although I received the wrong lens at first. The unreal Backcountry customer service cleared it up and sent me the correct lens pretty quickly. Only fogged on me a couple times, look bomb, everyone is jealous.

these goggles are amazing, they are smaller than the omegas but they have metal inserts which make them more durable, made mostly for the back country. they also have air vents built into the frame to prevent fogging

Great goggles, they work well and are great for the price! Solid construction beats my old goggles which broke at the frame. Good goggles for the price!

Pretty Decent Goggles

By:

After reading some of the other reviews, i ordered myself one, was a little worried about the fit, but they fit fantastic, awesome fit, comfy, but as said already, little small for people with a larger face.

no fog!!

By:
February 2, 2009

I am so pleased with these goggles, I have yet to have them fog up on me. I had $100 Bolle goggles before these and they fogged up after 10 minutes (on a good day). I was very hesitant to buy anything because I thought everything would just fog up on me. Not with these! The extra lens is great because it can be changed out. I have a small face and these are almost too big on me. Some reviews said these are too small but I disagree, unless you have a huge head, you cant go wrong with the zeds.

One of the best SPY Goggles out there

By:
February 2, 2009

I bought these goggles for the '09 season since there was a great deal on whiskeymilitia. I couldn't be happier with them. They really are well made goggles. Granted, they did fog up on me twice but i was in -25 degree weather and it was sort of my own fault.

Other than that, I've already used these in different light conditions and they have performed well. They're really light in weight as well. You can barely feel them on you. If you're a fan of SPY Goggles, then you will definitely love these.

#3.Great Price

They are awesome. cool designs for the price. Not a terrible goggle, not a amazing goggle. But still high end looks and performance.

sick goggles

By:
January 2, 2009

awesome! info says they fit a medium/large face but they fit my sorta small face great. wont break, frame is super flexble. the "mirror" lens is only semi mirror but still looks good, and it has okay vission at night. i keep in that one cuz the orange looks sorta weird. good air flow. only complaint is that the strap loosens up sorta easy if you switch from hat to helmet a lot. also, way cheaper than overpriced a-frames and crowbars, and way cheaper if u wanna buy a new lens.

great goggle

I think the Soldiers fit slightly better than the Zeds with a helmet, but these things look sweet and for the price (WM) you can't beat em, especially with the extra lens. As a note, the frame/lens on these is relatively inflexible, so the lens can crack pretty easily if you're not careful when you're transporting them. I generally prefer a frame like this so it's not really a complaint, just much different than my Dragons, which I could fold in half with no issues.

Love em.

Got the white ones with the white/green strap and gold mirror lens, and they are awesome. They look badass, and they fit well and perform great. If there's a lot of light, you might see a bit of your eyes reflecting in the lens, but it's not enough to impair your vision. And the $35 dollar price tag on WM was very nice. Stoked on these goggles, really glad I bought em.

great goggle, great price

By:

stoked on these goggles, especially for the price on whiskey militia. one thing is that like what a lot of people said the strap is a bit short with a helmet, but along with that these goggles are the best fit i've found with a bern baker helmet

Great Goggle

By:
November 18, 2008

The Spy Zed is a solid goggle. Great field of view, conforms to my face nicely, and has a no-slip rubberized material on the strap to keep them in place. They look real sharp, expect lots of compliments. NO fogging problems, either. Not for medium to large faces, however. I'd say more small-medium. The strap is also pretty short, I don't have an oversized head and I had to max the strap out to get them to fit.

just stand still!

By:
November 18, 2010

These goggles are great if your standing still or needing to eat lunch with goggles on. If your like me and happen to find yourself travelling at high rates of speed on the mountain, throw these goggles away before you start to ride. The venting system is horrible and allow way to much air travel into the inner compartment.

This design flaw allows for a cyclone effect to occur inside of your eyeballs. It is an ocular catastrophe! I was crying every time I attempted to use these. It was not due to the awesome riding skills I was witnessing on the mountain either.

All in all this package is not worth the price. I would pay about 20$ for a cool pair of goggles to mug in thats about it. I gave them away after a few sessions on the mountain!

ok gogs... not recomended

By:
April 4, 2010

when i got these goggles, at first they seemed pretty cool, but when i wore them up to the mountain they foged up once i ajusted them. also they arnt good for seeing the snow on clowdey days. they are very tough, but oakley goggles are bullet proof, they have the wings for your helmet, the lens are really nice, there much more comfertable, and they are pretty much the best goggles you can buy. and guess what? there onley around $30 more. Talk to a gear ninja about what model you shold get and what kind of lenses for the aria you ride. there all in the price range of $70 to $140 if you want to get the solid collerful lenses(i woldent recomend these bucause you see sploches of diferent collers in the snow while you are riding which cold mess you up really bad)... just go with the oakleys, you will be much more satisfied with them. and there not much more $.

Pretty Sweet

By:
November 24, 2008

The Zed is a pretty good goggle. Picked up a pair of white ones w/ gold mirror on WhiskeyMilitia. They are definitely more of a small/medium than a medium fit. Also, the strap is pretty short and just barely fits around the outside of my Baker helmet. That being said, they do look awesome and the metal inserts add some flavor. The silicon strip on the inside of the strap keeps it from sliding on helmets or hats. The venting is great and the microfleece backing feels great on my face. An all around good goggle for the money but just a bit small.
