Sombrio Highline Mountain Bike Short - Men's - 2008 BCS

Item # SOM0018

Downhill minimalists dream about the Sombrio Highline Freeride Short, with its laser-cut mesh vent ports, stretch nylon construction, and trim (for Sombrio) fit. Big baggy shorts are cool if you're doing whips off manicured tabletops, but the excess bulk gets caught up on tight DH courses, slowing you down when going fast is the whole point. The Highline is built for speed and ventilation, making it a favorite for racers, hot-weather riders, and cross-country monkeys who've managed to kick the spandex habit. It's also great for skinny dudes.

Bottom Line:

Drop the sag in exchange for speed.

The nice thing about Sombrio shorts not having a chamois is the fact it allows you to wear protective shorts underneath(661, fox, animal, etc)

Sombrio is a freeride company and most free riders are out of the saddle the majority of the ride so chamois is not a top priority. You could get a separate spandex short and were them under if you would like.

The medium is a small. IN fox gear and other sombrio shorts I ride medium. These were not comfortable.

These shorts are an epik (read slimmer) fit while most other sombrio gear is the street (freeride) fit. Size up one size in epik fit FTW

Does this short have any kind of padding in the crotch?

You need some padding in the crotch for when I kick you in the balls for being such a retard. No! No padding because they are a true "free ride" company...thus no sitting down because you are hucking. WTF?

Go a size up

By:
September 18, 2008

Originally ordered a md since a 34 is usually my max on waist. The mediums were tight, embarassingly tight. Seriously, since when is Canada in Europe? I returned for a sz L & am happy. Material construction is excellent - stretches, breaths, and appears to be pretty durable for the weight. Pockets have magnet closure. No pockets other than the 2 cargos. If you're carrying any extra junk in your trunk you might have to go 2 sizes up in order to avoid advertising your peaks and valleys - velcro adjustment on waist functions well.

All of Sombrio clothing fits generally a size smaller. I found that out the hard way after ordering about 5 shirts at once...

Great mtb shorts

By:
June 11, 2010

I own several mtb shorts and these are definitely on my top list. Excellent material, stretch nicely, fit well. these are xc/am shorts thus they do form fit on legs and thighs. I usually wear L (34 waist) on sombrio's and these do fit according to the sizing chart. if you want a more loose fit size up. These are very good shorts, period!

What's up with this company?

By:
February 23, 2009

Have tried two pairs of shorts over the years. Neither pair fit worth a darn. I'm a 32-33 waist, and a solid "M" in all brands except Endura (crazy Brits) and Sombrio's M certainly doesn't fit me. And this is without a pair of cycling shorts on underneath. Also found their gloves don't fit my hands at all.
