If you find yourself pedaling out to the tops of some of your favorite gravity trails, you might want to run the double-ringed, 83mm-bottom-bracket-compatible Shimano Saint FC-M815-2 Crankset. Shimano gave this crankset a 22 ring for churning butter on the way up, and a 36 ring for mashing ‘taters on the way down. The translucent, slightly flexible resin bashguard protects your chainrings from cracking if you tag a rock while hauling the mail. The included SM-BB80 bottom bracket features cups with longer threads so it will comply with any aftermarket chain guide system.

If you want to use a single ring in the future, can you attach a chainguide or are you stuck with 2 rings always?

Yes you can attach a chianguide at any time. The Single Ring version is not Drilled for the small ring making it a stronger spider.
