For those about to pound out a challenging short- to middle-distance training run, The Salomon Men's XR Mission Trail Running Shoe is begging to come along for the ride. Featuring a stretchy, highly breathable mesh upper and Salomon's unique Quicklace system, this trainer delivers a custom-like fit from mile one to infinity. A set semi-rigid OS Tendon bars set into the length of the sole encourage efficient and powerful foot roll, while multi-density sole materials maximize traction on just about any surface that you encounter.
Sensiflex construction creates a secure lateral hold on your foot inside the shoe while also stretching to adapt to the width of your forefoot
Contagrip LT uses lightweight sole materials to offer superior forefoot grip and traction
Contagrip HA uses more abrasion-resistant sole material to offer increased support and durability
Two semi-rigid bars run from the mid-foot to forefoot to create the OS Tendon structure, which improves heel-to-toe roll through your foot strike
Ortholite sockliner combines moisture-wicking fabric with an EVA heel cup to provide support, control, and keep your feet cool
Quicklace lacing provides even, one-pull tightening down the length of your shoe and won't loosen or come undone mid-stride
Despite being close to school colors I actually bought these since I heard the lacing is comprable/better than the boa's on the North Face. After a few weeks of hiking and running I can say I love these. After 4 TNF shoes in a row I haven't had any regrets moving to these. They are great for me since I am pretty neutral and they provide great support for a recovery ankle.
Sure. Of any Salomon, these are the ones that handle pavement the best. Is it that you like the fit of salomon versus a road-specific shoe? A lower profile road shoe will save you some weight.
Tried these new Salomon's. Loved the previous ones I've had. Bought these because of the colors and not disappointed. Super comfortable and light weight. Love the speed lacing also.
Sandy, please elaborate why you think weight/cushioning of these lean towards shorter runs, compared to other Salomon shoes such as its cousin, Crossmax neutral
These shoes are pretty awesome! I bought them to use for shorter runs / crossfit type training. After my first session I'm convinced I picked the right shoes. They are light, supportive and feel great on. They run true to size. I couldn't be happier. Highly recommend these shoes.
Salomon Sizing: I currently run in a size 9, New Balance MT110s
Salomon Sizing: I currently run in a size 9, New Balance MT110s (no socks).. and 9.5 in my Brooks PureForm, and road trainers. Do the XR Mission's run true to size? Also, what does Salomon consider short to medium distances? Thanks in advance
I've found that Salomons run a tad small. I wear either 10's or 10.5's in all shoes, but a 10.5 in Salomons works best for me. For you, I'd say the 9.5 would be a good choice. I think this is a short to medium distance model because they don't have any sort of pronation control or stability plate such as in XT or XA models. They have excellent cushion and forward momentum, though, so I dont think they would be a problem on longer runs.
When I first got these, they felt a little stiff compared to my road runners, but, after wearing them around for a bit, I competed in a duathalon that involved mud, water, trail running, mountain climbing and biking... these saved me - they were great on the trail, and in the water. Wish I had worn thinner socks, but, the shoes themselves were great for the run. No blisters, no aches, everything they say they do - they do!
