Gear Review
not as happy as i would like to be
By Dmoney September 25, 2011
The bag itself is great, comfy and roomy. No zipper snags and the quality is top notch. I am 6'1" at 175 lbs and I have the long and like I said before lots of room, bag didn't bind up at all throughout a restless night. I was pleased with how easy it was to slide the sleeping mat in the sleeve on the back side of the bag, and the attachment devise works well. I did not slip off the mat at all, but was still able to move my feet around freely. My only issue was not with the bag but the mat, at elevation above 5000' the 40 deg air chilled my mat and with no insulation on the back of the bag, the cold mat sucked the heat from my body. when we moved to lower elevation (3000') and the air warmed up and this was not an issue any more. The draft collar and tube trapped the heat in and kept the cold air out very nicely and never felt any cold spots. All in all i am very happy with the bag and will be using as long as I can.

Big Agnes has a Air Core and INSULATED Air Core mats for different temperatures. The INSULATED mat is good down to 15deg F (35deg for Air Core) and I have used it in the low 30s with a BA Yampa 40deg down bag with no problems with the mat getting cold. I have seen people complain about the BA bags not being as warm as rated, but not when using an INSULATED Air Core mat.
