I'm acutely aware of all the controversy surrounding the high price of this jacket and have read every review on the Internet about it. I'm a gear junkie, so I got curious real fast. I ordered it from S&C but in n XL, which was way too long in the arms and too baggy for my 6'0, 180 frame, and sent it back. Found the large in red (prfect fit and the color looks WAY cooler than in the photos) on DoG for 5hundy, mainly to really put it through its paces and see if it is actually worth it. My verdict: no F-ing way is it worth a grand. No one short of Everest/polar explorers need a $1000 jacket. It's absurd. I'm talking to you, bloated L6 daytrader skiers crowding the bowls.
But for $500, you simply will not find a better frontside jacket. The fit, function, and obvious quality are without serious competition. It looks and feels like a skier's jacket of the highest order. It's probably solid in all but the most serious backcountry/tree skiing, too. Hard shell material, but it feels soft and stretchy, on a beautiful, comfortable, and well-made jacket. I will not be sending it back. If you can find it for $500 or less, snap it up. You will not regret it.
The only reason I give it 4 and not 5 stars is I wanted a cozier chin guard and hand warmer pockets, and would prefer a true media pocket. 4.5 stars is a truer score.
