Gear Review
Great protective gear, not sure why everyone else is complaining
By jam September 25, 2011
I've been using these for three years and love them. They use hard plastic in some key impact areas (instead of foam which other brands use).
They have saved my ass, literally, many times.
I initally found them a bit loose in the crotch as I am built like a skinny roadie. But because these shorts are made of mesh instead of solid fabric, it took about five minutes with a needle and thread + my inept sewing skills to customise them to fit absolutely perfectly. I can ride in them all day without noticing they are on. I much prefer this mesh approach than the lycra used by other companies- it's cooler and it's easier to adjust.
I've looked at the POC shorts, and the 661 shorts that use the 3DO foam. Both do not have the same degree of coverage, or they use normal foam on the thigh pads, which would not be as protective during collision with rocks. I was tempted by the POC high tech approach until I took a closer look at their 2.0 version, which is missing major pads.
