I've seen some of the other reviews knocking this product, but I really like it. It is a light to mid-weight fleece - not meant to be a winter coat but would work to keep off the chill on a cool fall day/night. I bought a 3T for my 1.5 yo daughter so that it would be a little big and she could wear it longer than just a few months. While the sleeves are long (which is expected, given my daughter's age), the rest fits fine over a long sleeve or short sleeve t-shirt. I haven't tried it over a sweater or anything heavier as the weather hasn't warranted it. I think if you're familiar with The North Face gear you know there are different densities in the lines of fleeces they sell - so a Denali fleece is going to be warmer than a Glacier fleece. I am happy with this jacket and would recommend it to a friend.
