Functional, but apparently flimsy

By James Cooper May 2, 2011

I write this review with my girlfriend stating the following: "This jacket is very functional, very warm in cold temps, soft against the skin and has a great range of motion for multiple activities, including hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, ice climbing, and wandering about town. During ice climbing, the jacket never soaked up water and stayed dry. The downsides to the jacket, the stitching is coming apart on multiple sites around the exterior of the arms, and the interior wrist cuffs show excessive wear and tear. The jacket has seen only four months of moderate use, and the stitching problem was noticed after only the first month. Perhaps this is just a defective coat, with others not experiencing the same issues." We plan on sending it back for a new one, anyone else experiencing similar issues, please comment or review.

stitching definitely a problem, wondering if I should send it back or not, seems like flimsy sticking which is a bummer because usually pata stuff is well made.

Same problem with stitching on my hoody. It has come unraveled along one sleeve and also on the upper back. I can't tell if the stitching problem, which is confined to the quilted areas, is really compromising its function, but it certainly looks bad!

Almost immediately after wearing it for the first time (just to work - not on a hike or backpacking trip) the stitching starting coming loose on the sleeve. Soon after, anytime my arm would brush against my side the loose thread would catch on my pocket zipper and pull out even more - causing the rest of the sleeve to bunch up. I'm going to send in for a new one but it appears that it's not just yours that's defective. Disappointing for Patagonia.
