Gear Review
Ellsworth

I bought one of these about two weeks ago. Note that there are not X9 items (the cranks is an S1400 as best as I can tell, not X9, essentially X7). Having said this, this is a good deal (at $1999 on Chainlove.com). I swapped out the heavy Nevagals for a WTB Bronson (front) and a Maxxis Icon (rear) - dropped almost a pound. The X7 drivetrain works great, I am not familiar with Loaded, but their items seem to be of good quality and reasonable weight. The RP23 is nice, the Marzocchi 44 TST2 is the only questionable item on the bike. This is my first 29er and, surprising, after 4 rides on a variety of trails, I am very pleased. I have a 42x32x22 on my 26er, and thought the 39x26 would be very undesirable, really not bad, even on some pretty steep climbs. I will probably swap out the 39x26 for a 38x24, with the new conversion kit from SRAM. I have a few minor issues with parts, etc, but everything was resolved to my satisfaction. Note - I have built up a number of bikes, so it was not big deal for me to build up this bike - a couple hours. Note that the frame I recieved was a 2005 a best I can tell, anything older than 2008 is the non-SST, I think. But, for the price, really nice.
