For me a down hoody needs to be not that bulky yet warm. The hood is so essential for those super cold days in Colorado. This down hoody fits those needs. As much as I love my sythnetic puffy's for wet cold weather, this jacket is just so much warmer and don't you always have a waterproof shell to throw on top if it gets wet out there? I was surprised to find that I fit into a size medium in this jacket - usually I'm a large - so it does run a little big. Of course this doubles as my around town winter jacket as well.
