Gear Review
Bum rap
By Mathew Breakers October 6, 2011
This little guy has gotten a bum rap so I felt compelled to give my feedback as well. I purchased it off of Chainlove and it works great. I will share my experiences with some of the issues mentioned here. The wireless range on the remote heart rate and speed sensor have limited range. If you get off the bike and step away a few feet you will need to re-sync the heart rate monitor. This is easily done by going to the distance screen and holding down the right button to switch to second bike and then back to the first bike and your re-synced ready to ride away. It takes 5 seconds. The altimeter works well. One ride it did not want to keep track of accent and descent. This was due to the computer being too close to the steering tube and it was blocking the sensor. I also find the heart rate monitor will not read my HR unless I am a little damp or sweaty. This is a normal issue for all HR monitors.
I bought the cheaper version on Chainlove for the extra speed sensor and mounts. Now I move the 8.0 with the heart rate monitor between two bikes. It keeps records of mileage and syncs to different sensors for 2 bikes.
The setup is not intuitive and like most electronics there is a learning curve. I am happy I had the patience to enjoy this great tool.
