Size question:
I have a 33 inch waist, but thick [think skier] legs.
Should I buy a med or a large?

I would go with the large. Medium is a snug fit on 32" waist and the legs are fairly slim. You can snug in the waist a bit on the large with the small nylon straps along the waist too.
