Killer pack!

Patagonia Chacabuco Backpack - 1953cu in

Patagonia Chacabuco Backpack - 1953cu in

Rating for this product: 5 June 7, 2012

Love this pack, not to big, sized just right. Holds my 17" laptop, or swap it out for a hydration bladder, with room to spare. Large water bottle pockets on the sides hold my 32oz bottles with ease. Mega-pockets all over the inside,in various sizes, one on the exterior is fleece lined for your glasses or phone, which I really dig. Lashing straps on the back are also key, for clamping down whatever extra you may have. I'm pretty picky when it comes to packs, but this one is a winner.

KEEN Boulder Canyon Crew Mid Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 24, 2011

I bought one pair initially, then 2 more, next order. They are anatomically fit to each foot (you have a left and right sock, with a small "L" and "R" at the toe) so awesome. I think Keen has done their homework on materials/design/fit, and they are true to size. My first pair of Keen socks, but I will buy more.

GREAT! When it works.

Crank Brothers Joplin 4R Seatpost

Crank Brothers Joplin 4R Seatpost

Rating for this product: 2 September 9, 2011

My first experience was WOW, this is awesome! Love the ability to make on-the-fly adjustments. Then, it blew on my 4th ride. I just sent it back to be repaired — now I can't ride my bike because I don't have another seat post, good times.

Very disappointed in this product's functionality. Crank Bros is such a great brand, and has great products, but this one sucks. I heard all the rumors of them blowing seals, and having to be serviced very quickly...but I took my chances and figured it probably would not happen to me.

My recommendation: Do not buy this post.

Sunline V1 Pedal

Rating for this product: 5 August 17, 2011

Look at all the pedal pins, as well as the molded spikes, that's a lot of grip area. And, they grip like nobody's business. Wide platform, and tough as nails. With grippy soles it's almost like being clipped in. Watch the shins though, they don't play nice with skin.

Very comfortable: top-notch materials and design

Alpinestars MTB Bionic Jacket

Alpinestars MTB Bionic Jacket

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2011

I'd highly recommend this piece of upper body armor. It's very comfortable and contours well with the body. Once it's on, you will sink right into the molded cups in the shoulders and elbows, it ain't going anywhere. The back plate is also very comfortable, you hardly notice you have it on. I also like the kidney belt, it velcros at the front and there are adjustments on the side as well, to really cinch yourself up. This is my first product from Alpinstars, but I'm very impressed with the quality, design, and materials.

This suit needs some work

Six Six One Vapor Pressure Suit

Six Six One Vapor Pressure Suit

Rating for this product: 3 August 4, 2011

I've owned 2 previous versions the SixSixOne Pressure Suit (SP-2) and really liked the fit. I expected this suit to be the same, if not better, but it wasn't. It feels OK getting it on, but when you zip up and cinch down, it feels really bulky and uncomfortable. The back armor plating is about as ergonomic as an ironing board, it's like 2" thick and hardly contours to the body. The back plate in the old armor is way better, they need to go back to that design IMO.

I returned it and got the Alpinstars Bionic Jacket, which has a much better fit. The cups in the shoulders and elbows feel great and the backplate is very contoured to the body. It's a little more $$, but being ultra comfortable (and protected), is worth it to me: http://www.hucknroll.com/alpinestars-mtb-bionic-jacket

Great shoes for flat pedals!

Shimano SH-AM41 Shoes

Shimano SH-AM41 Shoes

Rating for this product: 5 June 29, 2011

These shoes rip for flat pedals! The vibram soles are really sticky, but not too soft and squishy like the 5-10's. I own the 5-10's and they are great for DHing, but I wanted something a little less burly for pedaling my all mountain rig. But, I'd almost prefer these to my 5-10's on my DH rig as well. The mid height padded inside gives you some ankle protection, and also support. The soles are very stiff, but feel good when you have to hike, or hit the bar for some beers after your ride. I really like the lace covers too, they keep your laces from getting trashed. I owned the previous models and they lasted 2 seasons, I'd definitely recommend these to someone looking for a superior shoe for your flats.

Charge Mixer Bike

Charge Mixer Bike

Rating for this product: 5 June 15, 2011

I LOVE everything about this bike. It looks badass and rides like a champ. So fast and nimble. The internal hub shifting is so smooth, it's silly. The disc brakes are almost overkill, but they stop on a dime and I could see them being really handy when it gets wet out. If you're looking for a clean looking commuter, this is the bike. I was stoked that it's completely assembled, all I has to do was put on the handlebars, front wheel, and pedals. I was riding the bike out of the box in 15 minutes. CHARGE!

*Note: the cranks are actually black, and the build does not come with fenders. The rims are also black, not silver. I don't mind it at all though, the way it's delivered looks even better IMO.

GSI Outdoors Hard Anodized Dutch Oven

GSI Outdoors Hard Anodized Dutch Oven

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2011

This dutch oven is amazing. It's very light, with the 12" only being about 7 pounds. The best part is there's no "seasoning" involved to keep this thing from being nonstick, or to keep it from rusting, like the old cast iron versions. That being said, I coat it with a small amount of oil before cooking, it's nonstick, and it washes extremely easy. This is particularly handy for multi-day trips where you're going to want to use it often. I even use it at home on my gas grill, I love it. I'd like to get the 10" version of this which nests inside the 12", making packing super simple. It may be a little spendy, but this is something that will last a lifetime, and you'll probably be passing it down to your grandkids.

Stoic Merino 200 Bottom - 3/4-Length - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 14, 2011

The merino is top notch, overall fit is fantastic. I wore these for over 12 days without washing them and they did not smell. The only gripe I have is the legs are a little short, could be an inch longer and use better elastic to hold them down. I had a couple days where the bottoms rode up and created a gap between my socks and baselayer...which is a real pain because I had to pull my pants up and fix during mid-activity. I'm also 5'-7" and got the large size, so you'd figure they'd be a bit longer. I did solve the problem using extremely long socks though, so not the end of the world.

Sick jacket - great price

Patagonia Snowshot Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 26, 2011

I've been using this jacket for well over a month, and it's great. Firstly, the fit is a lot baggier than you'd expect from Patagonia, but I really like for layering and freedom of movement (fits similar to a Burton sig fit). It's got a tall neck, which is fleece lined and keeps your face warm. It's got a fairly minimal design on the exterior, with only hand pockets (fleece lined as well) and 1 vertical chest pocket, so it's not like a "cargo coat" with all these pockets you don't need. Interior pockets are nice, with an MP3 player pocket you can access under the zipper flap, without having to unzip, it's great for changing out playlists. There is also a HUGE interior mesh pocket, for just about anything you need to stash. The mesh interior lining is smooth sliding on layers and keeps a separation from the exterior shell, so you don;t get clammy. The H2NO shell fabric keeps you bone dry and it's also very durable, plus there's large mesh pit zips to cool you down. The removable hood is a nice option, I wish the powder skirt was too, but it's fixed The price is a lot lower that you'd expect to pay for a Patagonia shell, but I'd rather have this than some of the $400+ models. I'd highly recommend this to skiers/boarders who want a baggier fitting jacket, to keep them dry and warm on the hill, and look badass to boot. The Gecko green is the color I got, and it's banging!

*I'd have given it 5 stars, but the hood is on the small side for helmet compatibility, mine will not fit comfortably, and it's a fairly low profile helmet. And, during cold wet storms (only), I had issues with the velcro not sticking very well on the arm cuffs - there needs to be a stronger grade velcro used there.

These have become my go-to pants when it's time to lounge or get outside for active pursuits. They aren't tight or baggy, minimal design, tiny logo placement, and they just fit me perfectly. The material is unlike traditional sweatpants, it's microfleece inside and a nice smooth no pill fabric that looks high end. I'd highly recommend these to anyone looking for some technical sweats, or lounge pants.

Baffin Cush Slipper - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 10, 2011

Bought my girlfriend these as a gift, she loves them. They were intended as a replacement for her North Face tent mules, which are very similar. She actually prefers the Baffins over those, and they are also half the price. I bought some for myself, and I really like them as well. They are plush, but not so thick to make your feet too warm or sweat. Note, the bottoms are intended for inside the house, so I wouldn't take these outside as they probably won't last long...but inside they are king. Plus they can be easily washed if they start to get a little smelly.

Stoic Luft Down Sweater - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 13, 2010

Got this for my girlfriend, she loves it. She's got the North Face Thunder down vest, and this piece is definitely equal in quality/style. It's very light, feels like you have nothing on, but keeps you warm down into the 30 degree temps. Great for layering under a shell, or easily on its own. The shell is fairly substantial, it seems very durable whereas some light down sweaters' exterior material is like tissue paper. The cuffs have a nice feel to them as well. This fits true to size, but definitely on the "fitted" side, but the contours look sexy on females. She got the blue color, looks awesome, especially with the white contrasting zippers.

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 5 November 4, 2010

I got the large and I'm very impressed with the design and quality. It's huge, and very light, packs down into invisible. You can cram a ton of stuff in there and get the size down drastically using the air valve. It's seen a bit a water, but not submerged and nothing gets wet. I'm contemplating using this as a pillow on my next trip, stuffing it with my down jacket, which I think will work. The Stoic brand has been producing some bomber gear.

The North Face Double Headed Toad 44 Bx Tent 4-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 October 6, 2010

Added this tent to the car camping arsenal, and I couldn't be happier. I have a similar designed TNF tent for backpacking (vario 23), and wanted something larger to fit in our full size inflatable mattress, 2 people + 2 dogs. This is absolutely perfect. Interior height is great, while still keeping a low profile for wind. 2 huge vestibules and round zippered doors, make for a ton of storage and easy 1-handed opening. Option to pitch the fly and groundcloth makes it super versatile. And, for 3-4 person backpacking trips, dividing the tent up among your friends, makes for a pretty light pack. The only thing is the stakes included are just basic, typical with most tents I've owned. Do yourself a favor and upgrade to some beefy tent stakes like this: http://www.backcountry.com/msr-groundhog-tent-stake-kit / But still I give it 5 stars regardless, you'll be stoked with this tent!

Kelty Satellite Double-Wide Sleeping Bag : 30 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 5 August 6, 2010

This is my first "real" double sleeping bag, and I'm so stoked I got it! It's perfect for the luxury car camping missions, when you have the room. I got so sick and tired of zipping 2 mummy bags, or a mummy and a rectangle bag when me and my sweetie camped, just a junk show trying to make that work right. It stays true to the 30 degree rating and definitely can go into the 20s with another warm body. I was skeptical about the polyester lining, thought it might be hard to slip in and out of, but it works great, and is even more cozy than ripstop nylon. This bag is also cool because it breaks into 2 single rectangle bags, so nice to have some gear with versatility. Turn your next camping trip into a cozy one, and with all the extra room to roll around in, hell, you may even get lucky!

March 8, 2010

I rode a Bullit for 4 seasons and it's one of the most versatile do-it-all bikes on the market. If DH-esque performance coming down is more important than weight going up, this is the bike. It also handles the Whistler Bike park and DH courses like a pro. Honestly, it's a little tank-ish on the climbs, but it just made me stronger...and I was glad I had it for the down! Marmot Arroyo Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 May 8, 2008

I've used the bag about 6 nights, and love my new all-around 3-season gem. I find this bag warm well past the 30 degree rating (but I'm a warm sleeper). Initially, I bought the Marmot Pinnacle (15 degree down) but roasted when it was 25-30 degrees...so the Arroyo was the next step up. The quality of design/materials is top-notch and I love the zipper because it has stiff coating on the baffle which prevents snags. The down is plush, nylon interior is silky, and the shell feels like it could take some abuse...not like the nylon tissue paper of most ultralight bags. Weight is meager, and you can also compress this thing down to nothing (half a loaf of bread). The price may be on the upper end, but I have no qualms about paying for quality and something built to last. Buy this bag and you'll be down too.

Backcountry.com Powderhuffer T-Shirt Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 8, 2008

Love, Love this shirt! Only those who are out there at the break of dawn, or first in the tram line, will get it. I'll wear this all year long or maybe they'll be a "dirt huffer" for the bike heads, who knows?

These slippers are like 2 Lamborghini's for your feet. They are crafted extremely well. They were a tight squeeze at first, but after a week or so of cruising around the house, they shaped to my feet perfectly. I'm only 34, but I plan on being buried in these slippers.

The killer griller.

Coleman RoadTrip Party Grill

Coleman RoadTrip Party Grill

Rating for this product: 5 February 12, 2008

This is the killer travel grill! It works extremely well and is just amazing how it breaks down to clean, and packs very small. It's such a clever design and puts the old-style gas hibachi's to shame.

The North Face Flight Tank - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 31, 2007

This shirt rocks! It feels like you have nothing on because it's so soft to the skin...and it wears really well in terms of not seeing abrasions. I got the black because it's the only size they had for me, and it didn't roast me in the desert like I expected. Plus it's easy to wash/dry for multi-day excursions.

Byer of Maine Parachute Traveller Hammock

Rating for this product: 5 May 21, 2007

This travel hammock is awesome! It packs ultra small yet unfolds to a nylon oasis. I just used it daily for naps while camping for 5 days and just put it on my front porch when I came home. Used with the Byer of Maine MicroRope, you can string it up almost anywhere there's 2 solid points. The first 1-star review this recieved is WAY OFF!...It almost deterred me from buying it...but Stinky Dave says BUY IT!

Killer table, killer price.

ALPS Mountaineering Camp Table

ALPS Mountaineering Camp Table

Rating for this product: 4 May 11, 2007

I've used this table quite a few times on car camping trips and I'm very pleased. It packs small (bag included) and sets up fast. The really nice detail is it's all aluminum, so you can cook on it, unlike vinyl roll-up tables, and it cleans up good as new. For the price it's comparable to tables twice the price. You know you want one!

Killer sofshell that keeps you warm and dry.

The North Face Apex Free Line Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Free Line Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 15, 2006

First glances reveal an midweight ultra minimal design while sporting roomy dual napoleon pockets & dual handwarmer pockets, enough storage room for the essentials. Took this out in stormy conditions with very heavy winds, and surprisingly stayed warm and dry...really changed my perception of what a pro style softshell can do for you. Fit is semi-snug without being too tight or bulky. If you are looking for a high end softshell, consider this one of the best on the market.

Petzl Tikka Headlamp

Petzl Tikka Headlamp

Rating for this product: 5 December 15, 2006

I own this headlamp as well as the Black Diamond Zenix IQ. I find myself using this headlamp almost primarily because of its simplicity. The batteries last forever and it gets bright enough for task lighting around camp, which is what this was designed for.

Burton Outlast Midweight Bottom - Men's

Burton Outlast Midweight Bottom - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 14, 2006

These are by far the most versatile bottom base layer in my collection. From medium temps (35?F) to very cold days (-10?F) these keep me toasty as well as super comfy. The elastic waist is not too binding yet holds firm, so the powder monkeys don't find their way down the back of your pants! Also the slightly shorter cut on the leg is great, IE: perfect sock/bottom overlap when stuffing into your boots.

Bomber coffee every time!

GSI Outdoors Javapress - 10 oz

GSI Outdoors Javapress - 10 oz

Rating for this product: 4 December 14, 2006

This has got to be one of the best camping innovations of its time. If you like coffee like I do, it's becomes crucial you get a nice hot, strong cup ASAP, and this little press delivers. Also very easy to clean and the lexan construction is tuff. FYI: I even used it for 2 months at home when my espresso machine broke. The only reason I gave it 4 of 5 is the tiny filter screen at the pour spout gets clogged very easily.

GSI Outdoors Piranha Foon

Rating for this product: 5 December 14, 2006

This killer spork has downsized my utensil stash, now no need for a fork and a spoon! It grabs like a fork when you need it, but is large enough to sip your soup from. The best part is it's durable and very easy to clean. The clip is nice too, for connecting to your knife or multi-tool, when organizing for trips.

Best all around glasses ever!

Smith Sequel 2 Sunglasses - Interchangeable

Smith Sequel 2 Sunglasses - Interchangeable

Rating for this product: 5 December 11, 2006

I have a small-medium face and these glasses fit perfect, love them! I previously owned a pair of Toasters for the last 6 years, and they have a similar size fit to these. The rubber bumpers on the ear/nosepiece ensure 100% non-slippage. And not to mention the style, these look sick! And oh BTW, you can change lenses, so make this your last pair of shades, period.

Been rocking these goggles all season and I absolutely love them. The fit is amazing, they don't fog and the sensor mirror lenses are the bomb. I have the Saiman Chow artist version, so they get mad style points as well.

Rating for this product: 5 December 11, 2006

These pants have a timeless design. They probably look the same on the farmer who wore them in the 1930's, as they do on me! Very comfortable and durable fabric to boot, nice fit. I just need a pair for every day of the week.

Now I can finally ditch the ziplock turkey bag I've been using for the last 3 years, yay! This travle kit is compact, yet it keeps unfolding with pockets galore. When my relatives see this bag hanging on their door, they will think I've finally made it to the big time, thanks DaKine!

The North Face Decagon Jacket - Men's

The North Face Decagon Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 5, 2006

I am very impressed with this jacket! It's got a sweet fit, pockets galore, pit zips, powder skirt, and a soft interior, but yet it's a light shell and not bulky with insulation. I do wish this jacket had a more adjustable hood...but I'd recommend it anyway. For it's price, it's something I can live with.

Burton Pinnacle XCR Under Glove - Men's

Burton Pinnacle XCR Under Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 5, 2006

These gloves are absolutely bomber. Went out last week in -10 temps and forgot the inner liners they come with and thought I was screwed. But to my surprise I had no issues with my hands staying warm. I don't know how they do it because these gloves are very thin (almost like spring gloves) but are ultra toasty. Stinky D gives them 2 thumbs up!

Best powder board. Ever!

Burton Fish Snowboard DO NOT USE

Burton Fish Snowboard DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 November 29, 2006

After 18 years of snowboarding, my claim is the Fish is the best semi-twin tip powder board ever made. No matter how deep it gets, the nose always seems to surface because of its soft flex and setback stance...so no more "popping wheelies" or rear leg fatigue. Just sit back, relax and let this board do the work for you. FYI: This board is extremely powder specific, so when the snow gets hard/choppy it's a little soft in the stability dept.
