safe drinking water with fairly simple steps

MSR MIOX Purifier

MSR MIOX Purifier

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2007

I haven't used this in the field a lot, but I've tested it at home a couple times. The water that is treated doesn't taste bad to drink and the process is really easy. If you want 100% treatment then you have to leave the water for a long time, but that is true of pretty much any system, and most will taste worse.

MSR Titanium Mug

MSR Titanium Mug

Rating for this product: 2 December 17, 2007

it's very light and efficient to pack, it's all true... but your coffee will be cold before you know it. For cooking in, this line is great, but I wouldn't buy this cup again. I prefer my Nissan commuter mug which weighs 10 times more, but keeps my coffee piping hot for hours.

MSR Titanium Mug

MSR Titanium Mug

Rating for this product: 5 December 17, 2007

I like to bring water from home when I can and this water bladder is enough to last a couple people all weekend for cooking and drinking. It has a handy strap that you can hang it from which makes it easy to pour. If you wanted to pack it and use it in conjunction with a purifier, that will work great, it breaks down to practically nothing.

MSR Hydromedary Hydration Bag

MSR Hydromedary Hydration Bag

I use this around camp, in a day pack, or in my full pack. It is fairly durable and has a long tube so you can turn any backpack into a hydration pack.

I like to have some tools and usually pack a Gerber multi-tool, but this has pretty much everything you need to do field maintenance on your MSR stove, some of which is probably not on your Leatherman.

Adventure Medical Adventurer Light & Fast Kit

Adventure Medical Adventurer Light & Fast Kit

Rating for this product: 5 December 17, 2007

When I got this the first thing i did was tear it apart and inventory everything. I added some extra medicines that I typically use (most were already present in a minimal quantity), a bunch of Advil/Tylenol, and extra 'normal' band-aids. The cool part is that there is plenty of room to customize this and even if you don't it is very well stocked.

you will need it to make this edible... I'd stick to the plain eggs which are a little easier to get down.

Gerber Gator Combo Axe II w/ Saw

Gerber Gator Combo Axe II w/ Saw

Rating for this product: 4 November 21, 2006

This lightweight and compact design works great. The saw, while small, is very sharp and cuts going both ways. The hand axe is very nicely balanced and not too heavy... would have been nice if it was a little sharper when it was shipped but that was easily fixed.

Adventure Medical Adventurer Light & Fast Kit

Adventure Medical Adventurer Light & Fast Kit

Rating for this product: 4 November 21, 2006

This kit is very neatly organized and includes most of your everyday needs. There is also a manual on some more advanced treatments that hopefully are never needed but having it is good insurance. There is plenty of room in it to add some other necessities which weren’t included... needle, thread, razor blade, extra benadryl/aspirin.

Whether you are carrying it in or just want to have a water supply in your campsite, this is a great way to do it, easily hang the bag from a tree or table to create 'running water' with a 10L supply that can last for days with some conservation.

Therm-a-Rest Wrap-It Pillow

Rating for this product: 4 October 24, 2006

I don't know why this isn't part of the base product. It makes it really easy to stow your pad. The only thing missing would be making the pillow inflatable so you don't need something to stuff in it.

Mountain House Beef Stroganoff with Noodles - 1 Serving Entree

Rating for this product: 4 September 29, 2006

This is a tasty meal either as a stand alone or suplement to a seperately prepared meat. Plenty of food for 2. It's a little bland so add some pepper and garlic for better flavor.
