Mammut Supersafe Climbing Rope - 10.2mm

Mammut Supersafe Climbing Rope - 10.2mm

Rating for this product: 5 September 7, 2010

i'm feeling good about this rope. took it to eldorado canyon last month and it performed beautifully. i didn't have the same twisting issue as others listed here and it was almost ready to go (fully flaked and unknotted) right out of the packaging. i reflaked it to make sure, and off we went. my climbing partner took a 20 foot whipper on it with no probs. feeds nicely, no stiff waxy feeling you might get with other ropes, and had good friction on my belay device (reverso). highly recommended.

Wild Country Helium Clean Wire Quickdraw

Wild Country Helium Clean Wire Quickdraw

Rating for this product: 5 June 5, 2010

hands down, these are the best draws you can ask for. they are so light, you would hardly notice them on your harness. the hooded nose makes it easy to remove from your harness and clip into that bolt before your pumped arms peel. fact, i loved them so much, i bought the biners to make into trad draws!

Petzl Reverso 3 Belay and Rappel Device - 2011

Petzl Reverso 3 Belay and Rappel Device - 2011

Rating for this product: 5 June 5, 2010

i ordered this for someone else, and after trying it out, i want one for myself. i was hesitant at first because i had to fight the grooved notches of my BD ATC Guide when feeding rope. but this one it feeds really smoothly and still has the great features of the older model reverso. i'm sold!

great helmet, albeit a bit small for me

Petzl Elios Climbing Helmet - 2011

Petzl Elios Climbing Helmet - 2011

Rating for this product: 3 June 5, 2010

i had tried on a size 2 helmet at a local store, and it was a bit big, so - believing that the smaller size would work, i ordered a size 1 helmet on backcountry. while the size of the helmet seemed better, the straps for the earlobes were too high and so my lobes couldn't fit under the straps. it's unfortunate because petzl could have made this adjustable, but did not.

so i had to return this very nice helmet.

great jacket, but had to return

Sierra Designs Chockstone Insulated Jacket - Women's

Sierra Designs Chockstone Insulated Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 August 4, 2009

i was looking for a jacket to climb with in case i got caugt on a cold belay. though it lacked a hood (i like one that goes over the helmet), it had pretty much all the other features i was looking for. sturdy ripstop waterproof material with primaloft insulation. had double zippers (good for the harness) and pockets a plenty. so why did i return it? it was too short on the torso! i'm 5'5" and about 110 lbs, so i tried both the XS and S. XS was fine with arm length, but the length of the jacket was too short and allowed drafts to come up. the S was still too short, and didn't hug my body as well... even while sitting around camp, i felt a draft on my lower back. what a real shame. had it been 2 inches longer, it would've been a keeper.

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Patagonia Active Mesh Bra - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 20, 2009

i initially loved these sports bras - they really fit nicely when you first get them. i have now used them for a year - and after fairly regular use (i would say once or twice a week), the inside lining starts to stretch in a way where it looks lumpy from the inside. the outside still has elasticity, so it looks like you have extra bulk or uneven-ness underneath. kind of annoying because these are expensive and super cute to start with.

cold sleeper satisfied - then sad...

Mountain Hardwear Lamina -15 Sleeping Bag: -15 Degree Synthetic

Mountain Hardwear Lamina -15 Sleeping Bag: -15 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 3 June 24, 2008

i sleep cold - and need the insulation to keep me at a comfy temperature. i've had this bag for 1 year and took it winter camping several times on some 5-6 day trips. with temps way below freezing - frost inside the tent (and on my bag) - i kept nice and warm. I'm skinny (5'5" and 110 lbs), so i don't always touch the sides of my sleeping bag. this was a problem in the past, as i woke up from cold spots when i shifted. but it doesn't seem to happen with this bag. and after repeated stuffings, it has kept it's loft fairly well... only seeming issue is that it seems too sweat a lot. my bag always seemed a lot wetter than my companion's bag in the morning (though i never had a problem w/comfort).

Fast forward to 2011 - so have had this bag for 5 years now, and the bag now has lost most of its loft. i only store it in its mesh bag, but it no longer keeps me warm in 20 degree temps, not even with socks, thermals, and a bag liner in... very sad that when i asked MH about it, they said their synthetic bags only last about 5 years.

Mountain Hardwear Winter Wander Pant - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Winter Wander Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 7, 2008

unexpectedly with rain and hail on a hanging belay. These pants just held up great! My legs stayed warm and the cinch on the legs helped to keep the draft from crawling up and freezing me from the inside out. I generally wear an XS for Patagonia or Prana - but for Mountain Hardwear clothes, it goes up to S or size 4.

CAMP USA Dyneema Tri Cam - 0.5-2.0

CAMP USA Dyneema Tri Cam - 0.5-2.0

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2007

i find the tri-cams extremely useful. from its camming action in horizontal cracks, to being placed as passive pro in those hard to place piton scars, i never head up the wall without them. so, when i dropped one, i had to buy its replacement immediately!

Rating for this product: 5 August 15, 2007

the curves make it bomber placements, but it also makes it hard to remove! i bought this to replace the one left in the wall. (belonged to a friend's rack). i personally have the BD stoppers as they are easier to remove and just as easy to place.

Mountain Hardwear Compressor PL Jacket - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Compressor PL Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 29, 2007

this jacket promises to compress, and boy, does it ever! unfortunately, the shell was a bit too thin for my taste since i was looking for something to bring up the rock with me for cold belays. i didn't think it could withstand too many abrasions from the crag, so i returned it.

not at the hip...

Isis Lucy Pant - Women's

Isis Lucy Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 29, 2007

these were well fitted pants - very nice cut. however, it didn't "sit just above the hip" for me. in fact, it landed over my belly button, and made it feel a bit constricting for me when bending forward. if it wasn't for this, it would have been the pants i was searching ages for! instead, i had to return them.

Marmot Ice Fall Jacket - Women's

Marmot Ice Fall Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 29, 2007

if you're looking for something hip and cute around town, this is the jacket for sure! the cut is well fitted and keeps the draft out. but if you need higher performance for the backcountry trips, this might not be the perfect thing. it's a bit heavier and bulkier than other synthetic jackets and wouldn't be my first choice to stuff into the pack.

Teva Pretty Rugged Nylon Sandals - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 March 15, 2007

I found these to be a bit narrow so they didn't seem to support lateral foot movement very well. The fabric under the Velcro was also thin, so for my sensitive feet, it took longer to break in.
