ExOfficio Give-N-Go Sport Brief - Men's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Sport Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 25, 2012

Why didn't I give this product 5 gold stars? Well, frankly, because it is underwear. If you just toss around 5 big ones for a sweaty pair of athletic undergarments you'd likely give the same rating for door stops or dental floss. When I'm working out, I don't want to be thinking about the comfort level of manhood supporter. This product fits the bill just fine. Don't hesitate to buy them. Go larger. I'm only a 31 waist and the medium fits great.

Seemingly excellent watch not for me

Timex Ironman Run Trainer GPS Heart Rate Monitor

Timex Ironman Run Trainer GPS Heart Rate Monitor

Rating for this product: 3 May 25, 2012

This watch seemed to have all of the necessary features and then some for a geeky, trail running triathlete like myself. Unfortunately, I had to return it misty eyed. My wrists are just too low profile (read: bird leg skinny) to the point that it was aggravatingly uncomfortable. If you have medium to large wrists, don't write this one off. Its got the bells and whistles of more expensive watches with a time-tested Timex brand. Pun intended.

Metolius Personal Anchor System w/out Carabiner

Metolius Personal Anchor System w/out Carabiner

Not much to it. It works well. This is a lot more useful than having a bunch of runners of different sizes. Its a bit pricey, but worth the convenience.

Excellent Shoe

New Balance MT110 NBX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

New Balance MT110 NBX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 25, 2012

So far I've enjoyed the first 100 miles of this shoe. I can't test on durability yet, but I don't see any troublesome signs of wear. Very lightweight for the protection it gives you. Ventilates really well. The soft foam lugs in the middle of the shoe seem pointless, but don't lower the quality of the shoe. The feel is definitely minimal. Your feet and calf strength need to be ready for the longer runs in these babies. The oddest thing about this shoe is that there is an awkward bump on the ball of the foot just below the pinky toes (i'm not sure what that part is called.) Anyway, that rise on the outside part of the foot felt uncomfortable in the shoe store and on pavement. Once on the trail, which is the only place this shoe should be run, it was a complete non issue. This 'lump' delayed my purchase, but I'm really glad I went for it. No regrets so far. I now have two pairs of Minimus (MT10s) and I endorse both.

Pearl Izumi Thermal Arm Warmers

Pearl Izumi Thermal Arm Warmers

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2012

I own this pair and the non thermal for the less 'biting' weather. Having these two pairs of warmers, I don't need to buy long sleeve jerseys in addition to the short sleeve jerseys that I already own. I save money and then I can stuff these in a back pocket instead of sweating the rest of the ride. Win win. I've got very skinny 34/35 length arms and the mediums suit me well.

Pearl Izumi Transfer Hat

Pearl Izumi Transfer Hat

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2012

Well...Its a synthetic hat for cool weather. Not much else to it. It fits well under a helmet. I give it 5 stars, not because there is something special to it, but because it does exactly what you would buy it for. My only complaint is that it doesn't completely cover my earlobes. Maybe my head is too big.

For $35 sale price, you can't get too picky. It is super comfortable. It should last quite a while. I'm a skinny and 6'1" and went for the medium. Fits great.

Sterling ATS Belay and Rappel Device

Sterling ATS Belay and Rappel Device

Rating for this product: 5 January 6, 2012

The ATS is fantastic. You can tie it off like a Piranha. It is small and simple like an ATC. You can flip the curvature of the device to vary the friction levels, which comes in very handy. You can also use it as an auto block, which I don't believe you can do with an 8, Piranha, or ATC. Rappel racks are probably the smoothest overall, but they are too bulky and heavy for backpacking.

Great glove

Sugoi Firewall Z Glove

Sugoi Firewall Z Glove

Rating for this product: 5 December 17, 2011

When I picked them up for the first time, they seemed too lightweight to be very warm. I was happy to find out that my judgments were grossly incorrect. These gloves block out the wind and cold and your fingers keep the other fingers warm. I haven't tested below 25 degrees yet. Southern Utah doesn't usually get that cold, but I think these gloves would still easily get the job done. Gear shifting takes a little getting used to, but it didn't bother me too much.

SmartWool Balaclava

SmartWool Balaclava

Rating for this product: 4 December 14, 2011

SmartWool products always make me smile. This item is very light weight. Warm enough for how light it is. I can't give it four stars because the opening on the front of the mask just doesn't stretch much. I'd like it a bit tighter. I suppose that is the trade off for not buying a synthetic balaclava.

Salomon SpeedCross 3 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Salomon SpeedCross 3 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 14, 2011

I thought they might be a little too bulky (especially since I usually run in Vibram Fivefingers) , but they are surprisingly light. I love the 'tonguless' feature. I do a lot of trail running in sand, gravel and small rocks. Most of it stays out of the shoes. Shoes are grippy. Girls runners complement the shnazzy look every time.

Rating for this product: 5 August 1, 2011

I've taken it canyoneering now several times. I don't even realize that I'm wearing it. I haven't worn it in extreme heat yet, but it seems to ventilate really well.
