These shoes are wonderful! I ran on the same trail, just days apart, in road training shoes first then these shoes. The difference in "stickiness" was very apparent.
I purchased these shoes specifically for the Dipsea Trail Race in Marin County, CA. That is the trail I compared them on. No sliding in muddy muck on shared-trails (horses) and they stuck on during muddy stream crossings. The high inside ankle shape is a nice touch for when you kick yourself, but doesn't help rolling ankles.
The lacing is great. I have a very narrow / low volume foot but these shoes are still okay due to the lacing.
A bit stiff for running on asphalt, but still okay for short distances on mixed trail runs.
