Rossignol S3 Koopman Alpine Ski
November 28, 2010
Would anybody know how these compare to the Volkl Aura? I am looking for skis for the wife, she rented the Aura's last year and liked them. I prefer a rocker-ed ski, so thinking the s-3 may be the ticket. This will be an AT set up, if that makes any difference.

I have two pair of the older freeride and have been pleased. Is the only difference between the Freeride and Eagle the max din setting?

Volkl Aura Ski - Women's
February 7, 2010
My girlfriend recently rented a pair of last years Auras. I couldnt believe how much her skiing improved, she instantly (ok I hate to use say it) fell in love with the skis. She has rented them about ½ dozen times this year and now and with the $$ weve been putting into rentals Im thinking about pulling the trigger on a new pair. She is 57 about 130 -135lbs intermediate skier and likes the 156. Im thinking she may out grow them as she improves. Unfortunately the ski area where we rent does not have any 163s to rent.
Length Suggestions Im leaning toward the 156 because that is what she is comfortable on??

Shane, thanks I've heard that G3 makes a skin that may work out of the box, now if I could only get my hands on a pair of the Shane McConkey tribute Toons.

Mounting Freerides on Pontoons Crazy?
Im considering mounting my Fritschi Freeride bindings on a pair of Pontoons. Is this crazy? What kind of brakes work? What type of skins will attach, to a shovel that big, will I have to make up a custom rig, and if so is it even practical to skin on a pair of toons?
I sure wouldnt want to be on a tight side hilling situation. I am also concerned about the touring capabilities of a reverse camber ski with the toons dimensions.
I envision using this as more of a side country access set up rather than for multi-day BC trips and would primarily use if for inbounds but would like the versatility of the AT set up. Has anyone done this?

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski
June 28, 2009
Thanks Shane, you nailed it although the Seth's are most excellent in the Pow i was looking for something more geared toward the deep stuff and was considering a pair of "Toon's" prior to looking into the S7's.
Thank again – Joe

Can anyone tell me how these might compare to my 09 ObSETHeds. The s7's look to be an awesome addition to the quiver but possibly too similar to my ObSETHeds which i skied just about exclusively this past season and now even into early summer!

K2 Apache Pontoon Alpine Ski - DO NOT USE
January 15, 2009
I’m trying to decide on which ski to purchase and need some advice. Currently I’ve been skiing Volkl Mantra’s. I do the vast majority of my skiing off piste, I also like to hike for my turns. After reading the reviews I think I would prefer a ski that is primarily powder oriented but can also get me back to the base via groomers at the end of the day. Possibly K2 Pontoon or Volkl Gotama as a compliment to the Mantra’s? I’d most likely be mounting what ever ski I decide to purchase on Fritschi Freeride bindings if that makes any difference. Any advise as to pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. 1-15-09 I ended up purchasing the ObSETHED's couldn't be happier - THANKS for the heads up on the obSETHED's!

K2 Apache Coomba Alpine Ski
January 5, 2009
Seth, Thanks for the response, to answer your question by hiking i am referring to skinning up, using Fritschi Freeride bindings - I looked at a pair of the Obsetheds' today and WOW they are a long 179 cm, especially when compared to my Mantras’ @ just 2 CM’s shorter.I’d love to rent / demo a pair of the Obsetheds’ before deciding but will most likely pull the trigger on a pair ASAP. With the next size down being 169 cm I doubt I should go any shorter than the 179’s being as I am 6’-1” and close to 200lbs. Would you concur? Ps (here we go again with yet another choice and question) how would you rate BD’s Megawatt against the ObSethed’s? Thanks much – joe

K2 Apache Coomba Alpine Ski
January 4, 2009
Coomba weight – last question, I swear – ok well maybe not the last. I sure am struggling on a choice, so many skis and soooo little cash. I was leaning toward Gotama or Coomba, now I am seriously thinking about Obsethed as my second ski to complement my Mantras. (ski Colorado Front Range) Question – on occasion I like to hike for my turns reviewers say the Coomba is a light ski for its class, well exactly how light? I’ll probably go with the 181 cm if I pull the trigger on the Coombas, Can anyone tell me what the weight is on 181’s? The Obsethed I believe are rated at 4.72 lbs for 179 cm. I am leaning toward the ObSethEd due to the rocker platform, which I have never tried, but sounds like it makes sense, but if the Coombas’ are significantly lighter it may sway me. Thanks much!

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

How would the ObSethed be compare to the Coomba and Gotama? I ski about 70% inbounds 30% touring backcountry, don’t ski switch (on purpose) and am looking for a one-ski quiver for West Coast conditions if that’s possible. For comparison purposes I am currently skiing Volkl Mantras’ although a great overall ski, they tend to dive in hard wind packed conditions and deep powder, so i was looking toward a wider platform & possibly rockered?? One last question, I'm 6'0" and due to my advanced age am now pushing the 200 lbs mark. My Mantra's are 177cm and I have liked shorter length due to my occasional bump runs, --- should i go with 179 or 189 range when choosing my new skis - many thanks

Coomba vs Gotama? I’ve perty much have my choice narrowed down to the K2 Coomba or Volkl Gotama. I’m looking for a fatter ski to complement to my Mantra’s which I ski now and use both for in-bounds and back country, most likely will use with fritschi Freeride bindings. Can someone resound with a brief comparison to these two skis? Many thanks
