Very cool...but heavy and legally questionable

Thule Doubletrack 2 Bike Hitch Carrier

I've had this rack for 8 months. I love it's ease of load/unload and locked bikes. Our different frames are not affected whatsoever.
Great rack....except these real points.
Positives -
1. ratchet lockable arms
2. lean-out from car to open hatch - very cool feature
Negatives -
1. Way heavy - my wife can't put it on the car - it weighs probably around 50+lbs. Overkill bulkiness if you ask me.
2. Due to weight, to lift from lean-out, you're picking up bikes and heavy rack
3. When folded in the up stored position - I just got pulled over for "deliberately concealing the license plate". Didn't get ticketed, but he's going to try and I will fight in court - as needed.
and last but least - why's it SO EXPENSIVE
