Picked up one of these guys the other day. The size is perfect, much more thin then the full griptillian making easier to carry. The mini is also light making a good choice for hiking and other activities where you are carrying your gear. The blade is flat ground and of the highest quality. Benchmade provides lifetime sharpening, which does NOT extend to the serrations of the combo blade.

Had it on in a pretty good pour while riding home from campus and stayed drive as well. The hood is great! Has the "halo" style tightening cord so that the hood moves when your head moves. great feature!

It depends on the type of activity you're looking to wear it during and the temps at which you wish to do them at. If you're looking to do a vigorous activity in moderate to cold weather then yeah it would work as your mid layer. If you're looking to a low exertion activity in cold weather then it probably would not be warm enough as a midlayer. Their term midweight is not the same as midlayer. Midweight refers to the insulation it will provide. I would definitely view this as a base layer. Not exactly sure what your height/weight has to do with its ability to keep you warm.

First off the early rise is not the exact same as a reverse camber it will help generate more flotation in pow, but will still remain stable. I would not go with the 191 at your height and weight especially after coming off a 172. I would stick with something around 180 and 95-105 at the waist. These would definitely work for you as powder specific boards just stick with something a little shorter then 190

If you're going to be skiing all over the mountain I would go with the 180. The will be more manageable in tight spaces and will still provide ample flotation in deep snow. If you plan on being in mostly wide open areas I would go with the 185. They will be a little more stable and high speeds and give a little bit more flotation but in exchange will be less nimble.

The rocker will help the skis float more in deep snow. Warmest of them all

Patagonia R4 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Patagonia R4 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 29, 2009

The R4 fleece is the warmest of all the patagonia regulator fleeces. It also contains a windproof laminate to keep out any gust. This is one of the nicest feature of this jacket, especially if you live somewhere with lots of wind, or will be spending any time where there is lots of wind. The jacket is noticeably more bulky when compared to the lightweight R4 but is not by any means annoying. The jacket is thick enough to wear on its own, but at the same time does not prevent it from being layered. But don't expect to get it under a snug fitting shell. The finish on this jacket is also a little different. The fibers are a little longer and features 'retooled' fleece accents. I personally like the look, but it might not be for everyone.

Rating for this product: 5 November 26, 2009

The Merino 3 by Patagonia provide enough warmth for winter activities with medium to high levels of exertion or for low exertion activities in the fall. The wool is top notch and is extremely soft and does not itch at all, i've found these to be much more comfortable then cap. 3 pants. Another advantage of merino is its natural ability to remain odorless. So if you plan on going on a trip for a couple days and don't plan on washing your gear these are great. Overall a great product, but with a steap price tag. If you have the money they are definitely worth it.

Supple style

Arc'teryx Stingray Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Stingray Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 23, 2009

The stingray pant compliments the stingray jacket perfectly. The pants are comfortable, lightweight, and have a supple feel due to the Gore-Tex soft-shell. Although some say that the soft-shell material is less waterproof then hardshell I have not found this to be an issue in the wet Washington snow. The pants do fit on the big side. I'm 6'2" 220pnds and went with the XL which are just baggy in the waist and length. The waist does have double adjusters which have a somewhat lack-luster plastic snap lock to them. Verry rarely are they an issue though. The only weird part of the pants is the short gaitors. On all my previously owned ski pants the inner gater was rather long, meaning it was disconnected from the up to about the knee. On these it is only disconnected for about 6 inches from the bottom of the pant.

Grip ruins it

Armada Motive Ski Pole

Armada Motive Ski Pole

Rating for this product: 3 November 22, 2009

A simple Al shaft paired with quick release baskets and grips. The interchangeable baskets are a nice touch although they do become difficult to change after time, as the red plastic disc becomes deformed. While the releasing grip is nice to adjust the shaft length, after the initial adjustment it is no longer necessary. Armada could have done a better job creating a more ergonomically friendly grip rather then slapping on an MTB inspired grip. Sure they get the job done, they are just ski poles after all, but for 75 bones?! look elsewhere.

After about a season and a half of use my Hestras needed a little love, in order to keep my paws dry durring the wet PNW winter. That love came in the form of Nikwax waterproofing leather wax. Black Diamond Apollo Lantern

Black Diamond Apollo Lantern

Rating for this product: 4 September 12, 2009

The Apollo lantern is about the size of a can of PBR and puts our quiet a bit of light. The build quality is top notch while maintaining a low weight. However when batteries are added it seems to double in weight, but that is expected. The lantern emits a decent amount of light for its size but is not extremely bright. It works great for backpacking trips but if you plan on using it for car camping I would go with something bigger and brighter especially since size/weight is not an issue.

Once open this little thing sucks up your gear like a vaccuum. I was more then once surprised by the amount of good I could fit in here. While they don't boast its weather proof-ness. I was caught in a monsoon while ridding a bike back to my hotel. Inside the bag was my passport and DSLR. I spent about 3 minutes in the heavy down pour and everything on the inside of the bag stayed dry enough to not get any damage, only small traces of moisture wear observed. I own these shirts to wear while fishing/ fish guiding. The are very cool in the dry heat of eastern Washington. The vents work nice and the long sleeves provide ample protection from the sun. This is not the kind of shirt you would want to wear with jeans to the club, unless you are trying to get that Tom Hanks in Castaway look. But for hiking, fishing, camping, traveling its a great choice. The fit runs a little big. I usually wear an XL in Patagonia but the L in these shirts fits me best.

Patagonia R1 Fleece Pullover - Men's

Patagonia R1 Fleece Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 12, 2009

The R1 provides the lowest level of insulation through out Patagonia's Regulator series of fleeces. I have found though that this is a versatile piece that can stand alone on cool summer nights or brisk early fall days. When the temps dip a little lower it functions as a great insulation layer under a shell or rain jacket for high movement activities, but would not be quit warm enough for low exertion sports in cold weather, such as winter fishing. Overall a great product with many different uses.

They've been on several MTB trips hiking trips fishing trips road trips pretty much any kind of trip these things have been on them and survived. They have a sem-breakaway hinge on them. Meaning if you step on them and the arm will probably just pop off and can be put back on, at least it was that way for me. As far as polarization goes these have a circular polarization like a camera filter would have I dont know why they do it on a pair of sunglasses but it is definitely essential if you're going to be wearing these around the water.

Patagonia Midweight Hiking Crew Sock

Patagonia Midweight Hiking Crew Sock

Rating for this product: 4 January 4, 2009

I bought these socks to wear hiking and to wear skiing. They are a comfortable sock that provided adequate cushion and insulation. These socks fit in an odd way. Once they are on they fit fine but they dont seem to stretch enough to just pop them on. Durability is great. I had one pair last about 2 years running double duty as ski socks and as hiking socks.

Decent

KEEN Newport Sandal - Men's

KEEN Newport Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 4, 2009

I got a pair of these to wear wet wading and fishing from a drift boat in the summer and spring. These are very comfortable sandals that provide a lot of protection. I've found these to be a bit slippery on river beds. If you plan on being mostly dry while wearing these then they would be great. If you think you'll spend a lot of time walking in rivers wearing these look elsewhere. I would like to see Keen get some Vibram soles on these.

Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 4, 2009

I got a pair of these just to wear around town and to class. The shoe is very comfortable and runs a little small. I wore these for about 4 months and the majority of the tread on the bottom is gone, I expected them to last a lot longer. I imagine the softer tread increases grip while trail running, but since that wasn't what I was doing in these I find it slightly annoying.

Salomon Gun Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 4, 2009

Got some guns in 189cm 2 years ago. These ski absolutely rip. They are fat and light. They excel in the steep and deep but blast through crud, and crush on groomers. For a large ski they can make pretty quick turns.

Salomon Snowtrip II Jacket - Men's

Salomon Snowtrip II Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 4, 2009

Picked up one of these jacket real cheap. This is not one of the nicest jackets i've ever owned but not one of the worst jackets i've owned. I mostly wear the jacket with the liner around town and to class during the winter months. With the liner in the jacket is extremely warm. It has kept me warm walking to class(1 mile) in 0-10 degree weather. As far as waterproofness this thing has not failed on me yet.

Too thick

Patagonia Active Sport Boxer Brief - Men's

Patagonia Active Sport Boxer Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 4, 2009

picked up some of these to wear backpacking. First off they are NOT quick-drying they take a long time to air dry. The material is comfy, but it is too thick. These keep you too warm for summer backpacking warm to the point that it is uncomfortable. To just wear everyday they are fine, but don't drop the cash for them.

This pack is the tits for FR and DH mountain biking. A full face helmet and pad can be tightly strapped to the pack. the straps really tighten down so that you gear doesn't sway around on you. Their is also room in the pack to carry essentials, tool, tube, pump, cliff bars. The pack fits nicely on the back and is well ventilated.

I tried this jacket on in the store the other day and the hood seemed small for a helmet, so the answer to our Q would be no.

Arc'teryx Stingray Jacket - Men's

January 2, 2009

The stingray is a a little on the short side, but the sleeves run true to size. As far as getting cold, this jacket will NOT provide any insulation. You would want to look in to an insulation layer to go underneath. Try a heavier fleece or a lightweight down jacket to go under it.

Patagonia Synchilla Snap-T Fleece Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

Get that classic Patagonia fleece with the Snap-T fleece. This is just a simple fleece pullover but that is why it is so perfect. The size runs baggy. I'm 6'2" 210 went with an XL and it is a big baggy in the sleeves with a perfect length.

Quality goggle, kind of small

Oakley A Frame Goggle

Oakley A Frame Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

These are great goggles, with quality that you would expect from Oakley. They fit great with or with out a helmet (salomon patrol ace.) The only downside is that they have a somewhat limited field of view, this would probably not be an issue for those with smaller heads. The wisdoms or the crow bars are better for those with a larger melon

AMAZING

Patagonia Lightweight R4 Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Lightweight R4 Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

I bought one of these 3 years ago to run double duty, under a ski shell in the winter and with waders in the fall. This thing works perfect for both. Under a shell this is perfect insulation for weather anywhere from 0-35 F. As mentioned sizing is a little on the small size. I'm 6'2" 210 pnds and the L is a little short not extremely snug, but not baggy. I preferred this fit for under the shell. quality is top notch as expected from patagonia. the R1 grid material on the inside makes this jacket extremely comfortable.

What you would expect for the price

Arc'teryx Bora 50 Backpack - 2807-3296cu in

Arc'teryx Bora 50 Backpack - 2807-3296cu in

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

This pack is great and exactly what you would expect for the steap price. the top compartment is water resistant with a water resistant zipper. meaning your stuff in the lid wont get wet in a light rain. the should strap and hip belt are thick and comfortable and support heavy loads well. This is the burliest hip/ shoulder straps that I've seen on a pack of this size. this bag is not overloaded with pockets and water bottle carriers, for me this is a good thing. there is one compartment on the top of the lid and one on the bottom of the lid, there is also a kangaroo pocket on the outside of the pack. This pocket is small and is only good for small items that you might want to get to with out unpacking everything.

Perfect book bag, decent day pack

The North Face Heckler Backpack - 2050cu in

The North Face Heckler Backpack - 2050cu in

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

College senior who bought this pack to haul my macbook and heavy books around campus. This thing is perfect for that duty. The smaller outer pocket has organizer sleeves and pen/pencil sleeves these things are not big enough to hold larger grip pens/pencils. Onto the main compartment, this thing is HUGE. It can easily hold a computer and 3-4 thick text books. in the main compartment there are two more sleeves at the top of the of lid. these are perfect to stash your Ti-84 or eye glass case. The straps of this pack are very wide and very comfortable with a small to medium load. unfortunately the straps are a little close together and with a heavier load this becomes an issue. as a day pack this is only mediocre. there is a small hook in the laptop sleeve to hang a camelback. the back of the pack is pure neoprene which leads to a very sweater back, I would have liked to see some mesh integrated to help ease this problem.

previously the anthony boronowski pro model glove, with that said these things crush. They are a very warm glove. I have never had my hands cold or wet. The only worry i have with these gloves is that ski edges might rip the leather on the palms, just something to be afraid of.

DAKINE Heli Pro 20L Winter Pack - 1200cu in

December 27, 2008

I've used it as my school backpack and it hauls everything just fine as long as you aren't hauling huge text books and binders.Although you see these everywhere on college campuses I would not consider this an ideal book bag. that is unless you like little room for actually carrying books and like your pens and pencils to be jumbled up in the bottom of an organized pocket.
