Rossignol Experience 88 Ski

Rossignol Experience 88 Ski

Rating for this product: 4 February 3, 2012

As a person who skis everyday on a 105 underfoot ski, I was looking for something to train for my Level 3 on. This ski was what I chose based on recommendations from our Rossi rep. I have to say, at first I was afraid, I was petrified. I was not used to being able to just tip and rip. I typically ski twin tips that have less sidecut, so you really have to work to engage the tip, bend the ski and then tip. With this ski, the movement is more about tipping first and shaping your turn after. I'm used to it now and seriously enjoy it. I also thought it wasn't going to be fat enough for crud/chunder, but was surprised at how well the wide tip navigates the crap. I'm not ready to call it a one-ski quiver, but its a go-to tool for everything but the deepest of pow.

Liberty Genome Ski

Liberty Genome Ski

Rating for this product: 5 February 3, 2012

I have to say, after skiing the S7, I prefer this ski. I love that its shaped like a regular ski so I can carve it back to the lifts or in hardpack. Its got great size and float in the pow, while still letting you ski fast and powerful I liked the S7, but I felt like it was limited for big, fast lines (hence next years S7 Squad). This ski kills it in all conditions. Its light and snappy for the trees, but damp enough to straight line or arc huge turns on the steeps. If you're thinking about it, just get it.

I wouldn't say they weight a lot, but I agree, you probably don't want to tour in them. Bamboo core makes them light and poppy for a battleship of a ski.

Oakley Flare Pant - Men's

These pants are plenty long if you wear them at your waist. Buy an oakley coat and you can zip the pants to the powder skirt, or use the snaps. I wouldn't consider these being like a bib though...

Oakley Flare Pant - Men's

Oakley Flare Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 3, 2012

...I'll say it again. The fit of Tanner's pants are awesome (See my review of the Fari pant). Just baggy enough to be steezy while not being rediculous or requiring a bunch of sag. I wore these in a downpour on snoqualmie summit and they kept me dry. the material is different than the Fari pant. Its softer to the touch, but still seems bombproof. I like the addition of the suspenders, while you can still wear a belt. Oakley is consistently keeping me a happy customer.

Killer baggy fit

Oakley Fari Pant - Men's

Oakley Fari Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 16, 2011

I love how baggy these things fit. I purchased a 2xl, even though, I'd say I wear a standard XL. They're baggy in the right spots to make skiing comfortable without having to sag or anything like that. There isn't any insulation which is good, and the thigh vents work perfectly. No doubt Tanner killed it with this pant.

DAKINE Split Roller Large Gear Bag - 6000cu in.

Rating for this product: 5 August 5, 2011

I can't begin to describe to you how awesome it is to have the compartments separated with their own zippered enclosures. Keeps me nice and organized and separates the dirty drawls from the fresh gear. This thin is plenty big for a week long trip and won't leave you wishing for more. The zippers seem pretty robust and the handle telescopes out pretty far for ease of transport.

Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Cargo Box

August 2, 2011

I can answer some of your questions:

The "plastic" is bulletproof. I've had this box for 3 years and there are zero cracks or seams or blowouts. Definitely some of the finer material I've had in a roof box. As a bonus, the locks are awesome.

I have this box on my VW passat wagon and it does NOT cover the rear hatch seam. Its even forward of the "RC CAR" antenna on the vw. The attach points do have some flexibility (Maybe 5 inches in either direction?) so you can move them as needed. Also, I'd guess that your roof rack has some for/aft movement as well. I don't believe it would hang over your windshield.

Hope this helps.

Oakley Primed Jacket - Men's

Oakley Primed Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 2, 2011

I can't even describe how awesome this coat is. There is ZERO insulation, its a pure shell that is super waterproof and light. I was actually concerned when I got it that it was TOO light, but once I wore it, I was sold. The whole set up is like wearing a suit of armor in the PNW rain/snow. It sheds moisture like a garbage bag, but breathes like mesh. This can be a deep winter coat with layers underneath, or a spring/warm weather coat with a t-shirt underneath and the vents open. Pair it with the primed pants and you've got a heckofa suit.

DAKINE Fillmore Mitten - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 18, 2011

For a low-bulk Mitt, these things made my hands sweat! I was looking for a non-leather alternative that I could tuck under my jacket and these fit the bill perfectly. My only complaint would be that my hands get WAY to warm wearing these, but thats probably MY problem, not the Mitten's problem. Pretty true to size and steezy to boot.

SICK BOOT

Nordica Ace Of Spades Ski Boot - Men's

Nordica Ace Of Spades Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 18, 2011

I must admit, like a lot of people, I was a bit nervous as this seemed like a park boot trying to be a big mountain boot, but I've been very impressed. The flex is progressive and at 225 lbs, I haven't felt like they were too soft. No, they don't feel like a 130 flex, but they also don't feel soft like a 100 flex either, so I really feel like they're kind of in the sweet spot. 3 buckles is AWESOME, the middle buckle locks you in. Probably one of the easiest on/off boots I've ever worn and sick graphics to boot. I highly recommend this boot for comfort AND performance.

Oakley Primed Bib - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 18, 2011

These pants are uber waterproof and are a great shell. My only complaint would be how tight they are in the bib portion. I found when I try to sag them a bit, the bib is tight around my hips. Not a flaw, just a comment if you're thinking of buying and sagging the crap out of them. Overall sick pants and the enamel orange is BRIGHT.

Best softshell material, hands down

Sessions Suburban Stripe Hooded Softshell Jacket - Men's

Sessions Suburban Stripe Hooded Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 23, 2010

The material that Sessions uses for their softshells is so much better than any other companies I've experienced. Its actually SOFT. It doesn't feel like a shell at all, more like your favorite hoody....with waterproofing. Definitley good for any warm weather riding, although, without any venting, it can get a bit warm with sunny riding. I've had one of these for 3 years and STILL wear it regularly. Heck, check my profile pic, I'm wearing it at Sun Valley in April.

After years of re-labeling narrow Lang boots, Rossi has come out with something for us with a wider foot. This boots 100mm last is plenty roomy without having to do any work at the bootfitter. Nice and stiff and plenty powerful. I just finished my second season on this model of 50+ days each, and they keep coming back for more.

Uber-versatile

Rossignol 2010/11 S7 Koopman Ski

Rossignol 2010/11 S7 Koopman Ski

Rating for this product: 4 July 23, 2010

Rossi got it right with this ski, it slays all conditions with the standard sidecut underfoot, reverse sidecut tip and tail and Reverse camber tip and tail. The one place I found this ski a little more work than I wanted was in bumps and tight trees. Make no mistake, this ski is meant to rip hard and fast. For tight, technical skiing, I'd suggest something a little narrower underfoot. I actually bought the S3 as its got the same profile, but the dimensions of the S5 with the rockered setup. If you want a pow-ski, but already have an every-day ski, I'd say go for something more floaty and fat. If you're looking for an every-day ski on the west coast, this one will work as long as you're ready for a slower edge-change in the bumps. Phenomenal ski.

Rossignol S5 Jago Ski

Rossignol S5 Jago Ski

Rating for this product: 5 July 23, 2010

I rode the last two years of the Scratch BC, before the S5 replaced them (pretty much same ski as BC and Brigade). At 98mm underfoot, they're pretty much the perfect one ski quiver...IF you're not looking for any Rocker. It takes a bit of effort to get them up on edge to arc the first time, but once you've done it once, you'll never go back. Bottom line, they rip. I've worn them in gates, mashing bumps, crud and SnoCat skiing, they handle it all, with the versatility of a one-ski quiver.

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Hestra Vertical Cut Freeride Glove DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 4 July 23, 2010

These are definitely my glove of choice. Plenty warm, decent dexterity. The only thing, and this is probably for most leather gloves up here in the PNW; they tend to absorb water over a long day. Make sure you have a glove/boot dryer or a second set if you're going to go consecutive days, or snowboard and put your hands in the snow a lot. I applied the leather balm and that helped, but they still eventually get wet. Other than that, bomber gloves.

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

Smith I/O Interchangeable Optics Spherical Series Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 July 23, 2010

Bar none, sick visibility, sick interchangeability, sick helmet adaptability. Comes with two lenses, and I would suggest adding one more; the gold mirror sol-x for sunny days. Perfect clarity and you only have to haul one pair of goggles and decide when you get to the hill. Never had any issues with fogging, but then, I'm not a mouth-breather. I like Oakley's and EG2s, but this is the goggle I wear every day.

Smith I/OS Interchangeable Optic Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 July 23, 2010

Bought these for my girl because the I/O was huge on her face. The I/Os is sick, with all the great features of the I/O. You have to love the easy interchangeability of features, especially for a girl that forgets her sunny goggles or flat-light goggles when conditions change. The lenses all fit the bag, or the smith hardcase. Your goggle quiver of one!

Oakley Resistance Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 July 23, 2010

Well, I have a pair of these in XL, and was looking for XXL. However, when they came, there was considerably more insulation in them than my older XLs so I returned them. Be aware of this if you're a person like me who rides consistenly hot. If you're a cold person, you can't beat these pants for the money. They yellow is the sickness.

Definitely on the warmer side with the Thinsulate. The Blue Tar is a steezy color and the shoulder vents (instead of pit zips) are key for cooling off. Its got a reasonably baggy fit and does what it says. You have to love the integration with Oakley pants as well, making it more of a suit.

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model Glove

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model Glove

Rating for this product: 4 August 25, 2008

I definitely dig these gloves. They were warm in Banff (-20 deg C) and I've used them at Snoqualmie summit (40 deg F). Very versatile and low volume. I would suggest using the leather conditioner to work them in. I did rip a the top part of the glove (from pulling them off at the fingers) and I sent them two Hestra who fixed them no charge. They will soak up water as many leather gloves do, so they'll get heavy, but I didn't experience any of the wetness on my hands.

Tons of pockets, ipod stash spot, pass window, all that stuff. Coupled with sessions pants you've got all the connections with the powder skirt to make sure you've got a good seal.
