Stoic Thrive Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 4, 2012

These shorts are awesome. Bough on a tipsy whim a few weeks back after a hot day, and wasn't sure what to expect. Well now that I've worn them a few times, they're awesome. I don't know what I did before learning about these newer, high tech fabrics.

Holding a pair of these shorts in your hand seems to spark disbeleif. These things are impossibly light, yet somehow super durable. I've been on hikes through brush, without a single snag. Even after long days setting routes in a climbing harness, my legs still felt sweat free and comfortable. The fabric doesn't' breathe as much as I would have initially thought, however, the incredible light weight of these more than makes up for it. Almost feels like I'm wearing nothing.

fyi, grab a pair of briefs with these. boxers are a no go, as the light material doesn't hide much if you're floppin' around.

Accidentally spilled some water on them after a quick break the other day, yet they were dry in 5 mins or less. Awesome.

Mountain Hardwear Koa 55 Backpack - 3350-3650cu in

July 4, 2012

Hey Lloyd!

I can say from experience that this pack has worked as a carry on 6+ times for me. Even fully expanded coming back from a New Zeland trip, it was allowed on as a carry on with a little nudge and a friendly smile. The KOA has tons of compression, so it could get pretty small if you're traveling light, however even at maximum size it may have only been a tiny bit larger than the requirements. With a shove, it fits perfectly into an overhead bin on United, Air Canada, Ryan air, Continental and Southwest planes. On one air Canada trip a stewardess questioned it at first, but general politeness, and a tiny bit of insisting it would fit gave me no problems. I was using a medium.

Stoic Bombshell

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 29, 2012

I ordered this jacket after reading some other great reviews, and doing research on many of the different fabrics available these days. Although I'm not crazy about the super bright yellow, the rest of the jacket more than makes up for it.

My first test of this jacket was the mesas and canyons of Moab, where the weather changes fast, and the winds can get really strong. Needless to say, I was completely blown away by how well it performed. This was my first piece of technical gear, and I made the decision on the spot never to waste $$ on inferior jackets/shells for the rest of my life. This thing repelled hail, snow and rain, all blowing in excess of 50mph while standing up to jagged brush and rocks (we were building new trails with the BLM) without a single issue. The bright yellow did show dirt pretty well, and I've had trouble getting it clean even with techwash, however things did accumulate over a month to a level where I didn't expect it to come clean.

All in all, I've come to use this as my go-to jacket for everything. Holds up incredibly well to branches etc, even when bombing down MTB trails. Breathes very well, an with the pit zips even more cooling is possible, although I never quite needed it.

Make no mistake, despite being advertised as a ski/snowboard jacket, this thing excels at nearly everything.

KEEN Gypsum Mid Hiking Boot - Men's

KEEN Gypsum Mid Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 24, 2012

OHHHH Man. Got these in this week while looking for something durable and comfy to wear as a full season boot. These must be the top of the line from keen. Construction looks rock solid, including metal eyelets on top. Leather is nice and thick, and seems like it will really be in it for the long run. A bit stiff at first, but that's good. They broke in within 4-5 days of sold walking, and now I feel like I'm wearing slippers. Ankle support is excellent. I really love these, fit perfectly right out of the box. I'm just worried they might be to insulated come summertime.
