As a skier, most of my baselayers are on the heavier side, which leaves something to be desired when desert season rolls around. This shirt is like nothing else in my wardrobe, but that may not be the case for long. I've had this layer for about 6 months now, and Helly's rep for great fit and durability applies - I'm a fan of this shirt for sure.
I've worn this layer for all kinds of activities in the warmer months, but I knew I was sold after I threw it on for a trip out to the Bonneville Salt Flats to spend a day shooting photos during Speed Week. I don't know why these men and women choose the hottest month of the year to come out to a desolate place like the Salt Flats, but suffice it to say that a heavy dose of SPF just doesn't cut it out there. You cover as much skin as you can.
This Helly Dry Tech layer took care of me. Despite the fact that I was wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt, I never felt close to overheating. And that comes from a guy who'll spend all night camping in the snow, but hides inside when the thermometer slides past 90. I spent all day out there in full sun with no complaints.
As a tall, thin guy, it's nice to know there are companies that still cut their templates for athletic builds - not couch surfing sport-o's. This piece fits like a glove, and has stood up to everything I've thrown at it.
