Excellent lightweight shorts

Fox Racing Altitude Shorts

Fox Racing Altitude Shorts

Rating for this product: 5 April 27, 2012

Bought these for my husband - nice lightweight fabric for XC type rides. He said he wouldn't use them for DH, etc., but they're perfect for hot weather. Seem durable enough so far, and they fit well. Appreciate the pockets. The chamois in these is excellent - nicer quality than a lot of liner shorts we've bought separately over the years. His only complaint was that he wished they were a bit longer, but overall excellent quality shorts.

Cutter Cyclical eVent Jacket - Men's

Cutter Cyclical eVent Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 23, 2011

I actually have the women's version of this jacket, but it's good stuff. I love the details like the seam sealed zippers and sleeve styling that keeps wind and water from going up your arms. The pockets are useful and the neck has a fuzzy inside that makes it comfortable.

I've been using this jacket for over a year, and after riding in a complete downpour for 10 miles yesterday, I took off the jacket and my shirt was dry underneath. Good stuff.

Great shorts, one minor complaint...

Giordana Forma Red Carbon Bib Short - Women's

Giordana Forma Red Carbon Bib Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 1, 2010

I love these bibs. The fit is great, the cut is flattering, the fabric feels really nice, the chamois is comfortable, they've been durable... I bought them for my first century and felt great!

Overall I just feel good riding in them and they were worth the money.

The only problem I have is that the front is low cut enough that if I stand up totally straight in most of my cycling jerseys, I end up with just a bit of skin showing. So when I'm not riding, I'm walking around pulling my jersey down... which is a little annoying. Maybe I just have a few jerseys that run short or I have an extra long torso or something, but I do wish the front came up a tiny bit higher so I didn't have to worry about it. Though I will say the waist is incredibly comfortable when you're in a riding position, so overall they still end up as one of my very favorite pairs of shorts.

Best I've tried

Sugoi RSE Bib Short - Women's

Sugoi RSE Bib Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 1, 2010

The first thing I noticed on these is that the fit is just perfect for me. The leg openings are just the right size and have just enough grip to stay put without squeezing my legs. And the bib portion lays just right and feels comfortable.

The only complaint - and this is really minor, is that the buckle in front is visible if I'm wearing a really thin jersey, or am not bent over actually on a bike. But hey - they're for wearing on a bike, so who cares, right?

And once I rode in them, I have to say this is the best chamois I've tried and the venting system actually works. I figured that was just a marketing gimmick, but the breathable mesh panel thing is a great idea.

Perfect fit. :)

Cutter Cyclical Jacket with eVent - Women's

Cutter Cyclical Jacket with eVent - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 1, 2010

The fit on this jacket is really impressive - it's definitely designed around your shape while riding, and the details like the sleeve covering the back of your hand are really well thought out. The front is high enough not to bunch, but is at the perfect height so it looks cute if I'm just wearing it casually after a ride. The chest pocket holds a blackberry or ipod perfectly and has interior routing for earphones, and the seam sealed zippers are awesome.I was initally worried about the lack of pit zips, but as it turns out I haven't felt like I needed them, so great work on a breatheable fabric. And it IS slim fitting - I wouldn't wear it over a ton of layers, but that's perfect for riding. I get compliments on this jacket all the time and I love it.I do wish it came in other colors - the brown is perfect for mountain biking (and casual wear), but for road riding, I'd love to have one in a bright color - or at least something with a lot more reflective detail so you stand out on the road.

Great for cycling

Zeal Tensai Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 March 24, 2010

The fit is perfect for active sports. I prefer the styling of my Orbs, but these are really ideal for mountain biking and such. The contoured fit both keeps them in place and keeps the wind out of your eyes but without any fogging problems. Great quality too.

My everyday glasses

Zeal Orb Sunglasses - Polarized - Women's

Zeal Orb Sunglasses - Polarized - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 24, 2010

Definitely my favorites. They're really cute and I love the big lenses - you get very unobstructed vision. And the lenses are surprisingly durable. I've forgotten to bring a case or leave them in the car when I go skiing and they have survived being shoved in a pocket without getting scratched.

Amazingly warm!

Black Diamond Absolute Mitten

Black Diamond Absolute Mitten

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2010

Definitely the warmest gloves I've ever tried/owned. But if you're buying these, they are for maximum warmth, not dexterity! I've tried skiing in them on an extremely cold day and I found it somewhat challenging to keep a steady grip on my ski poles. They're big and fluffly and insanely warm, and so far I've had no problems with durability.

Black Diamond Prodigy Glove - Men's

Black Diamond Prodigy Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2010

These look great and feel great and keep my hands surprisingly warm (I have notoriously cold hands). The removable liner is great for drying them out fast. And I've found on really cold days I can stick a disposable heat pack between the liner and the glove to keep my hands warmer. Dexterity is great and the leather is really soft but durable.

good design

Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero Mitt

Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero Mitt

Rating for this product: 4 January 2, 2007

I bought these for skiing - I always have cold hands and was hoping they'd help. The long gaiters on the wrists do help keep the wind out - and they're thoughtfully built to be able to adjust easily. They're a little bit bulky to deal with ski pole straps, but not too bad. And so far they seem well built and durable. Unfortunately, my hands still get cold. They do accommodate disposable heater packs nicely though, so they're working fine. I think I have Reynauds syndrome causing my cold hand problems though, so I think these would be VERY warm for the average person.

CW-X Insulator Pro Tights - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2006

My only complaint is that I love these things so much I need to buy more or do laundry every day... Very comfortable and supportive. I've worn them about 15 or so ski days so far, and they help my legs to feel good, and are reasonably warm. I still wear another layer or two when it's really cold, but they're just right for average ski weather.

Rating for this product: 3 December 19, 2006

It is very supportive and fits well, but when I've worn it all day for skiing, the mesh portion irritates my skin. But it's great for shorter things like trips to the gym, etc.

Perfecting the basics

Arc'teryx Alpha SL Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Alpha SL Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2006

I've used this jacket for about 20 ski days so far (mostly resort skiing and a couple of touring days). It's very lightweight, perfect for touring, and has just the very basic features, but the fit and function are ideal. The hood works very well over a helmet - keeping you warm without limiting visibility or movement. Cuffs, sealed seams, and zippers, etc. are all just right - as you'd expect from Arc'teryx. It's light enough for the warmest ski days and I can just add layers the colder it gets. And I really love the blue color. ;)

Nice!

Smith Prodigy Turbo Fan Series Goggles

Smith Prodigy Turbo Fan Series Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2006

I bought these for my husband - he always has problems with fogging goggles and Smith Turbo Fan goggles are the only solution that works for him on storm days. With the sensor mirror lenses, he's mentioned that they let in too much light for bright days, but they're excellent for storm days, so it's a good combination with the anti-fog fan. Excellent quality optics, as usual.
