Chaco Moving to Michigan and China

Chaco Z/2 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

Chaco Z/2 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 May 12, 2009

This is from an employee when I wrote Chaco.

Dear Chris,
Last summer Chaco laid off the entire production crew and farmed out the last of our American made products to China. Over 100 people lost their jobs. On May 29 the rest of us will be laid off. Chaco has sold to Wolverine Worldwide.

Nobody here was thrilled about moving to China.
Nobody here was thrilled about Wolverine buying us. The man quoted in the article, Ed Wieland was let go since those articles were written. So now we are all being let go to join the swelling ranks of the unemployed.

It seems as soon as we outsourced we went down the tubes.
Wolverine will keep the Chaco label but the product will be made in China.
Chaco will no longer be in Colorado but in Michigan.
Thank you for your e-mail.
Joe

Rating for this product: 1 May 9, 2009

We do, we all love our Chacos! Who wouldnt? If youre like me, you have more than one epic you could tell while you wearing your Chacos. And chances are, if you bought them before July 2008, youre Chacos were either MADE IN COLORADO, USA, Like mine, or ASSEMBLED WITH PRIDE IN COLORADO USA.

This is no longer true. Chacos are ALL now MADE IN CHINA.

http://www.aspentimes.com/article/20071114/NEWS/71114006

The sad part about this move is it was all for an extra 5-6 dollars profit.

"According to Wieland, factory to factory the cost to make the sandals will be $10 to $11 less in China than Paonia. With shipping and the import duty of 37-1/2 percent the total savings per pair of sandals will be between $5 and $6."

Please email Chaco at help@chacousa.com and let them know to bring back MADE IN COLORADO, USA.

Since July 2008. Made IN CHINA... and all for a measly 5 - 6 dollars!

The North Face Purgatory Multisport Shoe - Men's

The North Face Purgatory Multisport Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 5, 2009

I used this shoe for the JMT last summer. Carried an average of 40-45 lbs for the duration. My only mistake and recommendation is to replace the insoles with montrail insoles or superfeet. The vibram sole was great on and off trail and held up perfectly to the abuse. The synthetic upper was excellent for keeping my foot cool, yet if I fell in the water, which I did, they quickly dried. My opinion is the shoe is made for someone that DOES NOT have a narrow foot. I also typically wear a 12 in TNF shoes, but actually sized down to a 11.5 in this shoe. I was so happy with the shoe after my trip I bought another pair.

The North Face Purgatory Multisport Shoe - Men's

No Gore Tex in these shoes, but treat them with some Nixwax and you can get the morning due to bead up on the shoe. Definitely not waterproof, but the upper portion of the shoe dries extremely fast. Its a synthetic material.

Marmot Zeus Down Jacket - Men's

March 29, 2009

I posted this above, but thought I would do so again since this is a common question. I called Marmot when I was researching mine. (888) 357-3262. Cust service is pretty good. But the technical information on the site is a bit lacking. For a size M, the weight of the jacket is 12 oz with 3.5 oz of 800 down fill. I also wanted to know the density of the rip stop, they call theirs Bantam. Again the CS had to look up the info but he said he thought it was equivelant to 40D. Higher the # heavier the material.

Marmot Zeus Down Jacket - Men's

March 29, 2009

They are not "traditional" pockets in the true sense of the word pocket. The two outside pocket compartments are not sewn through on the inside of the jacket, but create a pocket you can stash items in. i.e. I put my run dont walk gloves and can also get a beenie in there. They are fairly deep and will accommodate most soft goods and even a wallet and cell phone. So to repeat myself, they are not pockets in the traditional sense with a zipper etc, but you can put items in them just not secured.

There are numerous post on the feel of the product. I'm curious as the the sizing. What are your stats? Height, weight? And how does the RHO LT compare to what you normally buy as far as sizes? I've been told these run quit tight.
