The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Men's

I live in South Texas and I am not familiar with cold weather gear. My husband wants a North Face fleece for Christmas...will this jacket be too warm even during our winter? The coldest it really gets is 30s and thats not for long...usually in 40s. I am trying to decide between this jacket and the lighter TKA 100 Microvelour Glacier? HELP please!
