Great shoe

The North Face Hedgehog III GTX XCR Shoe - Men's

I took these shoes on a 2.5 month trip to the Andes. I climbed sand-dunes, 5000m mountain peaks, walked countless miles of trails and roads with the shoes. After I got home, I took the shoes off and put on another pair which started to give me some trouble... so I put them back on. They lasted another 6 months. All in all... the amount of wear and tear they took was amazing.

It was not waterproof though. Within the first 3 weeks, the GTX membrane leaked. What can you expect though... the membrane is so crappy anyways - less thick than a piece of paper... its going to break down if you are actually using the shoes a lot.

After about 9 months of solid use, with the grip almost all gone, there is still a good amount of flex resistance left in the sole.

I am traveling to central america this summer and I will buy another pair because they are breathable... dry out fairly quickly, and are light, grippy and agile.

I'm 185 lbs, and 6'3" tall, athletic build. I'd like to be able to wear 3 baselayers underneath that would amount to about 1 inch of thickness. I have long arms. Should I go with the XL?
