Initial Impression - I recently bought this monocular after exhaustive research on the Internet. My initial impressions are: It is fairly hefty and bulky, which appeals to me. The light gathering ability is very good, again I've only had it for a short while but, for example, I can read the house numbers at night using the monocular and cannot even see that there are numbers on the house with out it. I have taken it with me when I go mountain biking and been impressed with it's durability and clarity. In short the clarity is outstanding, all the way to the edges. The light gathering ability is surprisingly good for just a 30mm objective lens. I am surprised at how well a 6x monocular can perform, it’s so clear and bright it is as if it is a much larger and powerful scope. I have no idea how well it will hold up, but just so long as it is not abused I’m sure it will be fine. My experience with optics is based on over 20 years of hunting and recreational hiking using spotting scopes, telescopes, binoculars.

Follow Up Review - Follow up to original review. I have taken my monocular on my vacation to Eastern Europe during the month of December. We traveled to Frankfurt Germany, Vienna Austria, Prague Czech Republic, Walbrych Poland, as well as various other mini trips for skiing and sight seeing. The weather during the trip was just above or below freezing with rain and snow almost daily. The Brunton Eterna Monocular performed like a champ. I had no problem with fogging despite the weather. It was large enough that I or my wife could handle it with ease while wearing gloves, but still small enough to slip into a coat pocket with ease. We used it for sight seeing, scouting ski runs, navigation aid, and watching the wild life. Bottom line: It added a new dimension to our vacation it was very handy and just plain fun to have along with minimal space and weight penalties. No post purchase remorse on this one, and I definitely recommend purchasing one to others.

Polar AXN 700 Watch

Polar AXN 700 Watch

Rating for this product: 5 June 27, 2005

Well I have been using and wearing the watch daily for the past two months while mountain biking, swimming, and weightlifting and here are my impressions: 1) This watch is thick! It is comfortable during the day, but if you sleep with your watch on it can be uncomfortable. 2) With the optional clear crystal protectors on, and I have not scratched or otherwise damaged the watch. 3) I am still extremely pleased with the software. It tracks my progress, allows me to place notes on weather, how I feel, etc., and serves as motivator. 4) I can go up to two weeks with out having to download my data to the PC before I run out of memory (and that’s at the highest recording rate of every 5 seconds). Seldom can I spend this kind of cash on something and not have buyer’s remorse, but this is one of those great products. I highly recommend this watch if you are athletic or just a fitness geek.

Ultimate Fitness Geek Watch

Polar AXN 700 Watch

Polar AXN 700 Watch

Rating for this product: 5 April 25, 2005

Bought the watch b/c it is the first watch that had all the features that I was looking for. I like the ability to download to the PC. It's much better than writing my workouts down on a calendar. I actually wear my heart rate monitor when I lift weights. That way I have a better idea of my total workout plan.

This watch has more features than I have used to date. The watch is very intuitive to use, and the software is everything I had hoped for.

The only down side was figuring out how to set up the infrared port. Come to find out the Polar IR port is not compatible. Just go to your local computer store and buy an IRDa Communication USB Port. After I did that my watch talked to my PC with no problems.

Bottom line; I would definitely buy this watch again.

Polar Display Protection Shield

Polar Display Protection Shield

Rating for this product: 5 April 25, 2005

I bought 2 of these when I bought my watch. I am very pleased with fit and quality.

The 'Display Protection Shield' is made of a somewhat flexible material. I've bumped it into walls/furniture, etc. with gnarly a mark on the shield but the nicest feature is that it cushions the blow, so I avoid the fingernails on a chalkboard reaction that I had when I have ground my other watches against rough surfaces.

Bottom Line - For very little money it's good insurance.

After going through the hassles of getting a replacement band for my Oakley it was refreshing that Sunnto has replacement bands readily available at a reasonable price.

About the band: Quality, fit and finish are comparable to the original. Not much else to say.
