the differences in models are length and thickness. one is insulator, one is a support tight.

you are better off ordering both sizes and then sending one pair back. there is no way to know which size you are with the variance in sizing among manufacturers, and even with a manufacturers line. backcountry makes it very easy for you to do returns, and will sometimes send you a return label if you order multiple sizes by phone.

boht are pretty stout tents. anything staked out like this msr is gonig to do well in terms of stability, especially if you guy out the sides. rain and snow are no problem in shoulder seasons, but for heavy snow, a 4 season tent makes more sense.

I own these. i don't feel they aid in recovery, they just aid in muscle support during workouts which may help a bit with fatigue. Does less muscle fatigue mean quicker recover? i guess so, but you will have to try for yourself. they are also very warm, so it needs to be about 48 or less to wear them outdoors during running. your best bet for faster recovery is to ingest a protein/carb blend sports during your workouts such as accelerade. i run trail races and triathlons, and protein sports drinks make massive difference in revovery for me.

i disagree. a medium would be fine. i'm 6'1" 183 and 33 waist. the large is too big, too baggy, and means i would be carrying unecessary weight. medium is the way to go. i find this jacket runs large.

this would be a great jacket under a backpack due to its minimalist design and ultralight fabric, however due to the minimalist design, it has just two pockets to reduce weight. it was really designed as shell jacket for backpackers. you might check out non-ultralite rain shells since they tend to have pit zips and more pockets. cheers

i've been an avid trail runner for many years and am yet to see a mid height running shoe -it's a bit of an oxymoron. you can find some really well vented shoes for summer hiking though. check out the merrill moab ventilator (in two heights) as well as the montrail line of shoes. cheers.

there is a difference in thickness. i use light for some shoes, and ultra light for tighter fitting shoes/more precise shoes. you can also increase cushioning by going to a normal thickness sock as opposed to ultralight assuming your shoe fit will allow it. generally if yuou need an ultralight sock you know it because you are trying to accomodate a specific shoe fit (like in a big wall trad/aid climbing shoe as an example).
also, sometimes mini or micro refer to the height of the sock on your ankle as opposed to thickness.. cheers

this jacket is specifically designed for rain storms, however none of the water resistant jackets breath well in extremely humid climates (or at all for that matter). your best bet would be to find a rain shell that has pit zips like this one, or perhaps the NF venture.

it's personal preference, but silk is generally much more expensive. cotton/poly is less care intensive than silk as well.

check out Tarptent.com and look at the contrail. i have one -it's 1.5lbs and absolutely excellent. i don't know of a lighter walled/floored tent that is as funtional as the tarptent. it sells for $200 cheers.

any of the msr filters are excellent. i use the sweetwater because it's pretty light and filters nasty water no problem. they are also easily servicable in the field.

the crotch is gusseted like climbing pants, so they should be ideal with a harness. no problem.

the peak height is three feet 7 inches, so you should be fine to sit up straight. no problem.

the brim will bend easily in a stiff wind. it's a very soft brim.

the hat is adjustable and comes in one size only.

really only one way to find out. i own four different pair of montrails and like them all, but nobody can predict how this shoe might work for you.

i agree with 1/2 size down -i wear an 11 street shoe and a 10.5 in the verde was perfect.

i find the heel nice and snug when sized right. the little air pockets are absent in this shoe.

will you ever wear socks? normally the smaller shoe will break in and get looser. the bigger shoe will not shrink.. both pair would probably work fine for you, but if you'll be hiking or on trails in teh sandal, think about the fact that you might be mashing your toe in the smaller pair.. tough call, go with your gut.

those grips are not right and left specific, so they may be used in either hand making them just fine to use as a single staff.

these smaller packs usually fall around your waist, not solidly on your hips. the belt is more for stablilty, not load bearing like a large pack. cheers.

i have the mad rock flash as well as the mad rock conflict. my street shoe size is 11 in nike/brooks/montrail, and my mad rock size is 10.5 for a very very snug, but wearable fit.

if it doesn't fit, it's not a big deal to just lay on top of the pad without it being in the actual sleeve.

the thermarest neoair would probably be a better choice in a hammock because the baffels are horizontal, not vertical, so it would bend better in a hammock. is a pad really necessary in a hammock?

this bag is not "waterproof" though it has a moisture resistant shell fabric. you would need a bivy or tent in rain or high moisture environment. also make sure to look at Marmot and Western Mountaineering in this price range.

i own the venture jacket. while it's light, it's not nearly as light as my GoLite rain shell. i think i saved over 4 oz with my Golite. columbia gear isn't generally a minimalist design.

i have the Venture and like it, but i also have a GoLite which is ultra thin, ultra light and i also like it, but it's not a "durable" jacket, just meant for fast and light trips where minimalism counts. in my opinion, none of the waterproof/breathable jackets do any breathing. pit zips are mandatory..

i've worn two different shoes from mad rock. in both shoes (flash and conflict) i've worn the same size as my shoe size, and when i tried to size down, they were too small. i wear a 10.5 to 11, and in mad rocks, i wear a 10.5. the 10s were the ones that were too small.

you have to try them on because of differences between face and nose shape, but when i tried them on, they were very light and seemed to stay put, but not as well as radars. i went with the radars for the big rubber nose piece and minimal weight, plus all lens, no frame.
for me, i liked the radars more and use them for all my trail running. even after 20-30k, i can't even feel them, and there is zero bouncing.

John, I'm also 6'1" and weigh 185 -33 waist. my dress shirt is 34/35 and i get away with a medium in the Venture. I could go to large, but the medium is a more tapered fit, and the arm length is fine, so i bet a large would be good on you. this is also a shell jacket like your Eddie Bauer, but it's not gore-tex, so it may not be as breathable as a true eVent or Gore shell. this jacket has pit zips which help a lot for venting. i'm able to wear mine over layers like a merino baselayer and a fleece mid layer no problem. cheers!

you can wash them, you just need to make sure they dry -preferably with a low temp dryer (a boot dryer will work well). after you wash them, you can treat them with a silicone based water repellant spray to rejuvenate their beading properties. be careful to use a very mild soap/detergent, or none at all.

injinji socks are basically socks with individual toes, just like gloves have individual fingers. the compression in this sock is for your calf and lower leg which is a feature generally for people running long distances ie. ultra marathons / trail racing. your best bet is to check with your doctor to find out if you will benefit from lower leg compression.

tsa regulations forbib anything "clublike". you will definitely have to check these.

that boot would be a great choice. primaloft is an excellent insulator, and that boot is basically a take on the original Sorel which is good to very low temps. if you size appropriately and wear a midweight to heavy weight wool hiking sock, you'll be able to brave some really cold conditions with toasty feet.

you can certainly wear those cycling, but you might check realcyclist.com for cold weather specific cycling gloves with appropriate padding etc.. sounds like you need a fleece lined windstopper glove.

you're probably going to have to try on both a medium and a large. however at your height, the arms on the large are likely to be too long.

Richard, i own these pants as well as the 3/4 length and I sized mine so they fit very tight -the 3/4 are much better for ski boots. I don't think the tights themselves will aid in preventing injury, but if you wrap in addition, you might get the additional support you're looking for, and depending on how you wrap, you can probably wrap either under or over the tights. One warning, I find the tights very warm, so it would have to be pretty cold to comfortably wear these under ski pants in any temperature over about 25 degrees. Cheers, and good luck.

i just double checked mine. there is no elastic on the sleeves. they are straight, and have thumb holes, but the material itself is pretty stretchy.

try a medium and a small. small would fit snug, but that's OK with a base layer.
