prAna Bronson Pant - Men's

prAna Bronson Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 October 2, 2010

good weight to wear around, cotton similar to khakis and cut similar to jeans. i'm 6'1" and 180lbs, i normally wear a 32, 33 or 34 depending on the pant. i wear a 32 in these and have sufficient room to fit a hand inside the waistband. at the same time, when i squat down or sit in a chair, the legs are a little tight in the thigh area near the upper leg/crotch. i would prefer a more generous cut, especially from a pant that is gusseted (ie. the gusset might as well not even be there with this pant). prana also cuts their length to the waist size (rather than making lengths) this is annoying because if i bought the 33 or 34, that's a pretty long inseam, and even the 32 is generous in length.. you gotta be pretty tall, or willing to get them hemmed to make the larger waist sizes work.
i wish i could have tried a 33 just to check the fit, but i could already fit a hand in the waistband as i said..

I own these. i don't feel they aid in recovery, they just aid in muscle support during workouts which may help a bit with fatigue. Does less muscle fatigue mean quicker recover? i guess so, but you will have to try for yourself. they are also very warm, so it needs to be about 48 or less to wear them outdoors during running. your best bet for faster recovery is to ingest a protein/carb blend sports during your workouts such as accelerade. i run trail races and triathlons, and protein sports drinks make massive difference in revovery for me.

Excellent for hydration and calorie supplement

Accelerade Sports Drink - 60 Serving Canister

Accelerade Sports Drink - 60 Serving Canister

Rating for this product: 5 August 9, 2010

I've been training with accelerade for over a year. I first started using it for hiking, climbing and cycling, then started using it during triathlon training once I took up the sport 6 months ago. For me, it provides an excellent source of both sucrose and fructose which is critical to repleshing both blood sugar and glycogen supplies in your muscles. The protein ABSOLUTELY aids in muscle repair and recovery. There is no doubt I perform better and recover faster from long runs, swims and rides when I'm using Accelerade..As for those that criticize the sugar in this sports drink, I just have to laugh because it demonstrates a very poor understanding of sports nutrition. Read a book before you criticize something.I will agree however, that this stuff contributes to gas, but then again so do most protein supplements -a little gas is not a big deal given the benefit of the drink.I have never had the stomach issues that others have had, but I don't have a sensitive stomach. You need to test any product to know if it will affect your system in adverse way. Other than in these reviews, i've never head of this stuff upsetting people's stomachs, and the fairly large triathlon club i belong to are pretty big fans of this stuff. cheers.

July 22, 2010

there is a difference in thickness. i use light for some shoes, and ultra light for tighter fitting shoes/more precise shoes. you can also increase cushioning by going to a normal thickness sock as opposed to ultralight assuming your shoe fit will allow it. generally if yuou need an ultralight sock you know it because you are trying to accomodate a specific shoe fit (like in a big wall trad/aid climbing shoe as an example).
also, sometimes mini or micro refer to the height of the sock on your ankle as opposed to thickness.. cheers

Oakley Dispatch Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 3 June 13, 2010

so they have great coverage, they are a big, frame. small faces, look elsewhere. i love giant specs, so these are a good casual, knock-around sunglass. they are very light, relatively durable, but i've had two problems. 1) i find the lenses scratch easier than some of my other glasses. they seem a bit fragile... however the lens clarity is stellar, and things acutually look clearer and crisper with oakley lenses. i love their optics. here is my big gripe. oakley customer service sucks donkey parts. one of the "o"s popped out on its own, and i called to ask oakley about this. they said it happens, but they wanted $10 to replace the "o" or i had to pay $40 to send them in for an "evaluation" what a absolute joke. this is horrific customer service. any other company i can think of just sends out a new part if something goes missing. i've had companies send me a shippng label to send somethign in for free warranty.. Oakley shoudl take note.

Sugoi RS Zero Bib Knicker - Men's

Sugoi RS Zero Bib Knicker - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 15, 2010

this review isn't a review of performance, but just a note about fit to help others. i'm 6'1" 178, and have a little bit longer torso for my height. i ordered a large, and this is a really nice, high quality bib, as all Sugoi stuff seems to be. unfortunately, the bib was perfect in terms of fit except for the length of the straps which felt too tight on my shoulders. i have the same problem with pearl izumi -medium is too small, large is too big. with sugoi, the large was perfect, but another two inches of strap length would have been necessary for a perfect fit. Santini fits awesome -i wish other makers would take a cue from them..
one other note -like the other reviewer, i found the knicker a little short below the knee, and the elastic at the knee wasn't tight enough so when my knee was bent, a little gap opened in the front of the leg opening. kinda weird.

takes the headache and time wasting out of cleaning, not to mention the scuzzy crap that can build up in your hose or bladder if you use hydration mixes. i consider this a must have, and use the larger brush to scrub out my podium bottles. removing the hoses from the bladder can take some muscle, but well worth it to not be sipping on mold or algae!

CamelBak Ergo Hydrolock

CamelBak Ergo Hydrolock

Rating for this product: 5 February 9, 2010

pure and simple, it's essential for transport of the camelbak (like in your car or pack), and any other time your mouthpiece might get squished and subsequently cause your bladder to leak out. just close the valve and you're safe from losing your liquid.

Patagonia Footwear Stubai Waterproof Boot - Women's

February 7, 2010

that boot would be a great choice. primaloft is an excellent insulator, and that boot is basically a take on the original Sorel which is good to very low temps. if you size appropriately and wear a midweight to heavy weight wool hiking sock, you'll be able to brave some really cold conditions with toasty feet.

you can certainly wear those cycling, but you might check realcyclist.com for cold weather specific cycling gloves with appropriate padding etc.. sounds like you need a fleece lined windstopper glove.

Mountain Hardwear Cohesion Jacket - Men's

February 7, 2010

you're probably going to have to try on both a medium and a large. however at your height, the arms on the large are likely to be too long.
i'm 6'1" 178 and easily wear a medium.

CW-X Expert Tight - Men's

February 2, 2010

Richard, i own these pants as well as the 3/4 length and I sized mine so they fit very tight -the 3/4 are much better for ski boots. I don't think the tights themselves will aid in preventing injury, but if you wrap in addition, you might get the additional support you're looking for, and depending on how you wrap, you can probably wrap either under or over the tights. One warning, I find the tights very warm, so it would have to be pretty cold to comfortably wear these under ski pants in any temperature over about 25 degrees. Cheers, and good luck.

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 31, 2010

super soft, good fit for lanky builds. i'm 6'1" and like the fit of the large. form fitting, but not skin tight. just fold the cuffs up about 3" when you're not using the thumb holes. speaking of thumb holes, i had to send one of these back because one thumb hole was too small to get a thumb through. got a replacement, and both thumb holes work perfectly. i find merino to be really warm, so I have to be careful of not overdressing. they make this shirt in a zip neck version which is better for regulating heat. overall, you can't go wrong with this shirt.

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 31, 2010

i'm 6'1" 180 and the large fits me perfectly. I'm a bit long and lanky, and i think BC makes clothes for lanky people, so the arm length is just fine. I love the thumb holes on chilly runs, and if i'm not using them, i just fold them up so they don't ride down my wrist. the zipper is excellent for dumping heat, and the material is super soft and comfy. for me, the shirt is really warm, and i can climb in 55 degree weather without being cold at all. this is a great piece, and a steal when it comes up on SAC.

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

January 31, 2010

i just double checked mine. there is no elastic on the sleeves. they are straight, and have thumb holes, but the material itself is pretty stretchy.

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

try a medium and a small. small would fit snug, but that's OK with a base layer.
