The North Face Valkyrie Softshell Jacket - Men's

January 15, 2010

It is a lot brighter colored than pictured.

But an r1 patagonia fleece under it,,,,and long underwear top,,,,it is surprising about as warm as my gortex shells.

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

Yes, the Hellbents are very soft...maybe too soft. I am 190lbs and have the 189s....at big speeds the tips really bend up.

Fun ski...but wonder if something stiffer might work better for me.

I am 190lbs and 6'3....could I get away with the 177s? I just feel the 185s are too much in ice moguls and tight trees.

I bought the 185s and they seem a little long for me. Was wondering if it is appropriate to mount these say +4 or is that not recomended?

I am looking to use these on as my main ski, with the exception if there is more than 6 inches of fresh. Have a pair of Hellbents for that.

NO question the 189. I am 6'4 and 190lbs. I bought the 179, and found them too short....I almost went over the handlebars a few times with them.

I bought the 189s this year, and is so easy to turn, and amazing in anything above six inches of fresh.

The only thing is if you are a big guy, you may find setting them too far forward causes tip sinkage. No one skiis backwards 50% of the time...lol.

If you plan to ski them in powder, and mostly going straight....mount them +2 or so. Core center really does not work so hot in powder.

Norrøna Lyngen Softsthell Pant - Men's

January 13, 2010

actually that might not be true, gortex can often keep you wet because it does not realy work as advertised. Gortex simplly does not breath, it is a neat concept,,,,but rarely works in practice. Short of a down poor, softshells should keep you pretty dry if you are active.

if you are a cop standing in the rain, get gortex.

I am really interested in the performance of this item. How well does it wick moisture and keep you warm?

The panties part does not look so breathable, is it?

While wearing this, are you more or less susceptible to the attacks by members of the criminal underground.

serious responses only please.

Does setting them at core center give you more or less float in powder, than setting them more traditional.

What would happen if you set the bindings at +0....would it really do wheelies?

Why would K2 even mark that point if it is not recommended?

I just ordered the 189, thinking of putting the schizos on them this time so I can play around with the postion.

If they are a tad too long for me, would setting them closer to core make them easier to ski?

Had the 179, but they seemed squirly in the chop.

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

October 27, 2009

I am 6'3 190lbs. I own a pair of seths at 179, and find they work well for me. I have tried lonber skis and have trouble in hard bumps with them....sometimes hard to avoid on overskied runs at Snowbird.

I also own a pair of Hellbents 179. I feel they may be short for me, and just don't know if i should spend the bucks to get the bigger ones. Is it wrong to ski them so short? I get enough float from them, but they are squirly in the chop.

I just don't want something that will be too hard to turn in the trees or the hardpack.

I also don't want to have to buy a bigger ski bag.

I am a level 8-9 skier.

Is there any advantage to skiing something like this short? Or should I go bigger. One rep said that hardly anyone skiis them in the 189 because they are hard to turn in the trees.

Um, no. You will be really unhappy skiing these in anything but packed pow or powder.

They don't hold an edge on anything remotely icy...and even chopped pow they are suirly.

I would say get the extremes or kung funjas.

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

June 26, 2009

So is the 179 for me completely wrong? and I should upgrade to the 189?

They felt like they had a mind of their own in chopped up snow, and they seem to get knocked off track a lot.

Also wonder if the longer ski would let me go faster on the groomers. You had to ski them very in control and slow.

I am 6'3" 190lbs and a level 8 or 9 skier. I am pretty good in powder with my K2 seths at 179, but can't imagine something longer in the bumps.

I bought a pair of Hellbent at 179, and tried them out in a foot of snow at 'Bird. I had them mounted at +4, even though I don't ski switch....just went with the recommended setting. The almost don't feel like skiing, and have to say I got thrown around in chopped snow...did not seem to track very well.

I am having second thoughts, and wonder if I should get the 189 and mount them more traditionally?
