The jacket itself is lined with a nice soft fleece material. I have several of them and their a great, high quality, light-weight yet warm jacket. I believe this one is meant to wear alone so I haven't seen it zip into another jacket or have an inner lining that zips out. The jacket does have a nice fitter shape so if you want to add thick layers underneath you should order up. I'm 5'7" and 135 lbs and wear a small.

I would say she'd probably take an xs. I'm 5'7'' and 138 and the small fits me great. Sounds like she would be smaller than me. The jacket is awesome. Lightweight but still warm.
