Green is the only color of the Tadpole 23 Tent at this time. In Fall 2010, the Tadpole 23 Tent was a dark brown base and orange/grey rainfly.

C.R.--There is no difference in color, shade or anything. The color code switch was an internal TNF thing for organizational purposes. No difference in color, technical qualities, etc. Hope this helps.

You could also use some Nylon or RipStop Repair Tape for a temporary fix. This will not leave a "gummy" residue like duct tape sometimes does. www.rainypass.com or TNF Warrany & Repair would be the way to go for a permanent repair.

There is no difference between Black and TNF Black as far as color goes. Both are BLACK. The North Face had to change color code and TNF Black is it.

Peter is correct. The Surge has a laptop dedicated pocket, where the W Recon has a laptop/hydration sleeve. And if space and day trips/hikes are of concern, I would go with the Recon. BTW...the Amira was originally sold as the "W Recon" before TNF actually began making the W's Recon.

The Berry Lacquer is more purple/magenta than the picture shows. It is much less Pink than photo indicates. Great jacket no matter the color!!

The collar has a light brushed fleece lining on the interior neck. The cuffs just have a self-bound elastic cuff, that is soft and comfortable, but not fleece lined.

The main difference between the two pants is fabric. The Noble Stretch Pants are stretch cotton based for comfort, and the Horizon Temptest Pants are quick-dry nylon based for more technical applications. Both are great travel pants, the Horizon option just a little more technical...dries quicker, packs smaller, lighter weight.

The Socializer Triclimate has a snap-in liner jacket versus a zip-in liner like some other TNF Triclimate styles. So yes, you will have to unzip the two front zippers separately when worn together. The liner attaches to the shell at both cuffs and back of neck.

The Denali Fleece will layer well under the Perilune. The Denali is zip-in compatable with this shell, to create a very warm & waterproof/windproof combination.

The hood is NOT removable on the Denali Hoodie.

I would recommend the Size Medium for someone of your heigh/weight.

The belt is not removable on the Brooklyn Jkt.

The Redpoint Jkt. is going to be warmer since it has 100 grams of PrimaLoft versus the 40 grams in the Zephyrus pullover.

I have used these for both moto and snowmobiling. They fit well with full face helmets thanks to the Articulating Outrigger Positioning system and the generous silicone bead on the inside of goggle strap to prevent them from slipping. The adjustable intake vents allow you to regulate ventilation, a nice feature when over-heating inside of helmet!!

The Redpoint Vest was updated by both fabric and design for 2010. TNF measures jackets by the centerback measurement and the 2010 version is in fact a bit longer. The front is not all that much shorter than back this year and the ladies have responded well to the 2010 fit.

The centerback length is 37 inches on the Lauren Trench. The inner, removable liner is about an inch or so shorter than outer shell.

The Lauren Trench is most definately windy-city worthy. This coat is constructed with TNF's Hyvent, so it is waterproof & windproof with a removable synthetic Primaloft liner for warmth. TNF does not do temperature ratings, but with something like a sweater underneath, this jacket will easily handle the cold, windy Chicago winters

The Khumbu runs true to size with its Standard Fit. Go with a Medium.

I would recommend sizing up in the Perilune especially if you plan to utilize the zip-in capabilitites or layer underneath for winter pursuits.

No one should get called stupid, and I will tell you what the leash is for. I sometimes refer to them as "keeper cords" as in keep your gloves.
1)Loosen leash at far end with platic slider
2)Insert wrist into loop just created
3)Cinch platic slider close to wrist to secure

The leash gives you an additional line of protection from dropping a glove or mitten from chair lift or while climbing.

You can cinch to wrists, some jackets have plastic D-rings on forearms for attachment and some youth styles might have specific glove clips.

The Diez Jacket is super versatile. I use my Diez as a mid-layer, under shell on the cold, nasty, stormy days. When the wind isn't hammering and skies are clear, it is used as an outer layer & when not needed, it packs away with ease.

So to answer your sizing question, if using as more of a mid-layer (w/shell) you would want it to fit a bit more snug. If using as sole outer layer (w/out shell)and plan to insulate heavier underneath, I would opt for the larger size.

The versaltility and breathability of the Diez Jkt. make it an awesome down insulating piece that will keep him comfortable in a variety of conditions and elevations.

The Gritstone Softshell is NOT zip-in compatable, but is an awesome mid-weight softshell.

Water Resistance...Sentinel Windstopper and Apex Bionic will have the most water resistance being softshells treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) finish.

Wind Permeability...Sentinel Windstopper and Apex Bionic are rated to 0 cfm, which is 100% windproof, so no wind permeability with these two styles. The Denali Wind Pro provides 4 times the wind resistance of traditional fleece, but not 100% windproof like Sentinel or Bionic.

Steady Rain...Apex Bionic or Sentinel Thermal, better than Wind Pro Denali

Snow...Softshell selections Apex Bionic or Sentinel Windstopper will prove to repel snow, slough & spray better than "hard-faced" fleece of Wind Pro Denali.

The Varius Guide Jkt does not come with an inner, zip-out jacket. However, there are numerous fleece, down and synthetic jackets from The North Face that will zip into the Varius Guide for colder weather activities. If you want the inner/outer jacket combo, look at The North Face Triclimate (3 in 1) offerings, with the waterproof shell and insulating liner in one package.

I would recommend getting a waterproof shell from The North Face that will be compatable with the Lily Thermal. The waterproof/windproof shell will provide a barrier of protection that the Lily Thermal alone does not, thus keeping you warmer for winter pursuits. Snap-in or Zip-in, both styles perform the same layering function.

The warmth-to-weight/versatility is the beauty of the Thunder Jkt. You can layer it under a waterproof shell for the super cold/windy/rainy days, or wear alone on the mild days.

For a down jacket that requires minimal additional layering, I would look to the Prism Optimus Jkt. Or, check out the waterproof/Primaloft insulated Makalu Jkt. & Plasma Thermal Jkt.

Simon is correct in that this jacket is designed to keep you dry which is an important step in being warm. BUT, this jacket also has a very light 205 gram brushed polyester tricot lining that provides light insulation, but you must wear proper baselayers and mid-layers depending on conditions to remain warm all day on the mountain.

The East Village is a cute, warm, down parka. The Brooklyn is cute, warm, WATERPROOF/WINDPROOF and can really handle any weather conditions. For an all winter, windy city jacket, I would recommend the Brooklyn.
