Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Stoic WPF Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 3 December 19, 2011

This stoic dry bag is pretty fair for the price. I use one for my Marmot Limelight 3 tent, and it fits everything without the poles of course. Very easy to compress, and the build quality is very good.

Stoic Merino Comp Trail No-Show Sock - 2pr

Stoic Merino Comp Trail No-Show Sock - 2pr

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2011

I have owned these songs for quite a while now, and they never lose their cool factor. These are my go-to 3-season sock. The fabric has plenty of cushion for hitting the trail, and resists the smell that comes with a solid day of hiking! They vent well in the heat and keep your toes toasty in the spring/fall. No complaints!

Stoic Merino 150 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 19, 2011

Terribly dissapointed. I followed the care instructions to the "t" and it fell apart in 2 months.

Pro's: Very warm, nice slim fit.

Con's: Fell apart quickly, armpit seems were very uncomfortable, too much money for the quality of the garment.

Outdoor Research Rocky Mountain High Gaiter - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 19, 2011

I've been using these gators for a little over a year now, and I love them. They fit tight to your boot, and are super easy to get on and off. The only complaint is that it can be a little tricky to tighten up the top straps. All things considered, these are a great bit of gear for the price.

Great mid layer!

Mountain Hardwear Super Power Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Super Power Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 19, 2011

This is a great mid layer for cold days, and a good outer layer for fall/spring.

The fabric is thinner than most fleece but still very warm! I also have not noticed much pilling in the fabric, and it has been through the wash numerous times.

The thumbholes are great for keeping the sleeves down, and the amount of hand area it covers is beyond your average top of similar type!

I really have only one con to note on this top... The stitching around the thumb holes seems like it'll wear quickly.

Absolute Must

MSR Hydration Kit - For Use with Any MSR Bag

MSR Hydration Kit - For Use with Any MSR Bag

Rating for this product: 5 June 1, 2011

The MSR Hydration kit is a must for any Dromlite or MSR Dromedary Bag user. As if these water bags weren’t versatile enough to begin with, this just takes it up a notch!

Pro: Hose is sturdy and can take abuse, bite valve is well put together and delivers much needed water just like any othe. Fittings used to attach to dromedary bags are very solid and swivel for adjustment. Taste, what taste? You’re going to taste your water, that’s it.

Con: The provided little clip you see in the stock photo is pretty tough. It was difficult to keep it snapped in place when first purchase, but if you work the piece back and forth for a few minutes, it will be a lot more pliable.

Versatile and packable!

MSR Dromlite Bags

MSR Dromlite Bags

Rating for this product: 5 June 1, 2011

The MSR Dromlite is easily one of my favorite pieces of gear by far. The dromlite is so versatile you won’t go adventuring without it. I use one of mine as a hydration bladder, and the others to carry fresh water down low in my kayak to help trim the boat when it’s loaded.

Pro: The fabric is incredibly flexible, making it very easy to pack up. The fabric is also VERY durable. I have set them on rocks numerous times, and not one leak, not even any sign of wear. The threading locks things up tight, so no worries of leaking. The 3-in-1 cap really is awesome, as the description says. The best part… -No Plastic Taste-

Con: It can be kind of awkward to fill

Tip: When you’re going to wash these out and dry them, use the plastic practice golf balls (holes in them). This will keep the bag open so you can let it dry out properly!

Kavu Chillba Hat

Kavu Chillba Hat

Rating for this product: 2 June 1, 2011

This is hat is clearly kind of crazy looking, but as the last reviewer stated, it does its job. I use mine the most when working outside, and occasionally while just relaxing creek side. Tried it out on a few paddling adventures, and unfortunately due to the chance of wind, it just get’s left at home now.

Pro: Water does not get through to your noggin’, nor does the harsh sun

Con: If it’s even a bit breezy out you’ll be wishing you had something else on, sits pretty high on the head

Well Built!

Kavu Synthetic Strapvisor

Kavu Synthetic Strapvisor

Rating for this product: 4 June 1, 2011

I have been very impressed with the Kavu Synthetic Strapvisor so far. I have been using it for a little over a year now, and it has taken some serious abuse! It shows no signs of wear and tear, and the color is till the same as when I bought it, no fading!

Pro: Stitching is very solid, super easy to adjust when the wind picks up, dries very quickly, and there is a d-ring on the back so you can clip it to your pack or in my situation, a pfd!

Con: The bill does not really hold its shape that well, but some could look at this as a plus, for ease of stuffing in a pack.

Marmot Limelight 3-Person Tent w/ Footprint and Gear Loft

May 31, 2011

I recently had a 10yr old helping put it up, and to help teach him, I let him do most the work. He had no problem figuring how it went up. As for putting the poles through the eyelits, he had a little difficulty, but once I held the opposite end, he did just fine!

Great Pants!

The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 16, 2011

The North Face Paramount Peak pants are awesome! I wore them the other day for a day hike up Ingalls creek in the rain. These pants kept me dry and warm! The trail was overgrown and with moisture on the brush, there was times where the pants would get damp. I was stoked to notice that I still stayed warm, and that they dried very quickly!

The construction quality of these pants is awesome! The stitching is very good, the material stood up to brush and occasional thorns, with no signs of wear at all!

I’m going to be buying another pair soon, and would encourage anyone else looking for some quality convertible pants to get a pair of these!

Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Backpack - 1600cu in

Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Backpack - 1600cu in

Rating for this product: 5 May 12, 2011

Purchased this pack to replace my old North Face Wasatch I've had for 12yrs. I was skeptical about Mountain Hardwear packs since I had never used one, but I was very impressed when I got the pack. I loaded it up the other day in preperation for my "Ingalls Creek Assault" this weekend, and I must say I'm surprised at how much I can stuff in this pack! To give you an idea the capacity, I'm just going to list what is in it for my day trip...

A cheap 8x10
Fleece Jacket
Rain Jacket
First Aid Kit
Emergency kit ( Ditch kit from my kayak, 5L dry bag)
4 Nutrition Bars
2 Nalgene 32oz water bottles ( in the side pockets )
Small plastic shovel
1 Full roll of toilet tissue
Fleece Beenie
Nylon Pants
Extra long sleeve base layer
60ft of paracord
Small Digital Camera
Flashlight
Extra Socks
Vibram Five Fingers

Still have room for my lunch!

Also the adjustment straps you would normally use to bring the pack closer to your body, also compress the pack down. So this pack really snugs down against you, and really reduces the feeling of being pulled back or to the sides.

I will update this after the first trail test, and let you all know how it held up!

Great Light Duty Shirt

NRS Crossover Tee - Short-Sleeve - Men's

NRS Crossover Tee - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 10, 2011

The shirt has held up fine so far, though I've only put in about 2 days of paddling in it, and probably 4-5 days hiking. It wicks moisture well, and dry's very quickly! I can see where there would be some quick breakdown though, the stitching just doesn't seem to solid! If it helps, I'm 5'9", 155, and the medium fits like a casual shirt, and not as much like a fitted performance top!

Perfect!

Outdoor Research Revel Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Revel Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 3, 2011

Just received this jacket the other day, and I put it to the test last night! I went up Ingalls Creek trail for about 4 miles after work, it wasn't raining, but I wanted to test the breathability. I must say, between the chest zips, and the pit zips, if you you can't stay cool in this, you've just got too many layers on! The jacket really allows for great freedom of movement, as well as being able to be worn comfortably with your packs waist belt on!

Sizing: I'm 5'8 160lbs, and the small fit me just right, with plenty of room for a base layer and fleece!

Lightweight and Functional

Sea To Summit Lightweight Dry Sack

Sea To Summit Lightweight Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 4 February 21, 2011

These dry bags are super light weight, and do the job they are intended to do. I've been using my 20l for over a year now to keep my dry clothes in while kayaking, and I haven't had a single problem with it! The materail is very smooth, so when you go to pack it in a boat, you're not fighting it! Does not seem like the type of dry back to set down on the rocks though. The fabric is fairly thin, so the risk of puncture is pretty high.

Great casual skirt

Harmony Clearwater TTD Spray Skirt

Harmony Clearwater TTD Spray Skirt

Rating for this product: 3 January 20, 2011

This is my first skirt for my Tempest 165. I've used it for a little over a year and a half now, and have had only a few issues.

Pros: Fits the boat nicely, the zipper design allows access to the cockpit

Cons: The zipper pocket on the front is very difficult to get into, you'll need to bend the blastic riser piece down everytime you want to use it. This skirt seems a little tall but if you sinch down your pfd it shouldn't move much.

Put this through a few rolls in a succession and it seemed to let a little more water through than I thought it would, but then again I might need neoprene for that!

I would recommend this as a good casual skirt, for mild to moderate paddling conditions.

Great Knife that I hope I never use!

NRS Co-Pilot Knife

NRS Co-Pilot Knife

Rating for this product: 5 January 20, 2011

This is a great knife. Well constructed, good balance, very sharp working edge, and stays in the sheath very well! I've had this knife for a little over a year and a half of paddling, and thank god I've never needed it! The low profile keeps it out of the way when clipped to your PFD. Also, if you pick up this knife, consider some paracord through the eyelit on the handle, just big enough that you can slip your hand easily through. This will come in handy if you need it in a high action situation!

The North Face Denali Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 20, 2011

This is really just a good casual jacket. For the price, you could get a good windproof fleece jacket in another brand. It's comfortable, and the zippered armpits make for good ventilation, but it's not something I would rely on in the back country, unless it was a light hike in moderate weather.

Great Jacket!

Stohlquist Splashdown ST Spray Jacket with Hood

Rating for this product: 4 January 20, 2011

This is the first paddle jacket I've owned, and I'm really enjoying it. I do a lot of cold weather paddling, and this jacket keeps you toasty ( with other layers of course ). I'm 5'9 160lbs and the medium fits nicely over a base layers and a fleece. Also the zipper pocket on the arm works great for my mp3 player, haven't submerged with it yet, but it stays dry!

2/10/11 Update
A friend of mine who has this same jacket decided to surf a pretty good wave on lake wenanchee and went for a swim. His top stayed dry! There was minimal dampness on the very bottom of his fleece layer underneath, but the rest was dry! Great jacket! Totally BOMBER!
