Nikwax Tech Wash / TXD Wash-In Twin Pack DO NOT USE

May 6, 2011

Hi Jake!
The bottle of Nikwax Tech Wash should would be enough to clean around 6-7 items. The Tx.Direct will treat 3-6 items, depending on whether you have a top-loading or front-loading washing machine. We recommend re-treating with Tx.Direct approximately every 6 washes. It depends a lot on how you use the treated garments. For my seasonal stuff (like snowboard gear) I treat it about once a season. I treat my everyday jackets about once every 6 weeks (I live in Seattle, so I wear my rain gear and softshells a LOT).

I hope that helps. Thanks for the question! And stay dry!

Nikwax Tech Wash

March 17, 2011

Hi!
Grease stains are tricky, aren't they?!? One of the best ways to treat them is to soak the affected area in warm water and dish soap (like Dawn). THEN follow up with Tech Wash. Dish soaps are the best at cutting grease and the tech wash will remove any residue left behind by the dish soap. Hope this helps! Thanks for the question! Stay dry! :)

Nikwax TX-Direct Spray-On

January 28, 2011

Hi Paul!
The Nikwax Wash-in product should not be used as a Spray-on. The two are formulated differently and you could get streaking or spotting from using the Wash-in in place of the Spray-on. If you have any other questions about this, you can reach us at (800)563-3057. Thanks for your question! Stay Dry!!

Nikwax Down Proof Solution

January 12, 2011

Hi! Nikwax Down Proof adds microfine durable water resistance (DWR) to both the exterior fabric and the feathers within a garment. It is designed to preserve loft and will not cause clumping. However, i'm not certain how it will affect the microfiber exterior, as it is usually used on nylon or something similiar. It will add DWR, even to something that wasn't water repellant in the first place, but it may slightly alter the appearance of the textured exterior. I hope this helps! Thanks for your question! Stay Dry!

Nikwax Tech Wash

Hi Eric! Tech Wash is definately what you want to use to clean your fleece jackets. One thing to be aware of though, if this is the first time you've washed a new fleece it may distribute fuzz over your other jackets in the washing machine. But other than that, yes, you can definately throw them all in together. If you decide you want to waterproof that fleece, check out Nikwax Polar Proof. Thanks for your question! Stay dry!

Nikwax Tech Wash

December 29, 2010

Hi Roberto! Washing your gear with Tech Wash will never compromise the existing DWR (durable water repellency). In fact, if the DWR is still solid (it wears off over time), Tech Wash will help it work better. As for proofing, the Tx.Direct wash-in product would be great for your pants. The only "liners" you would worry about would be those that are designed to wick sweat off the surface of the skin (like a running shirt with a hanging mesh liner). I wash all my snowboard pants and jackets with Tx.Direct wash-in and it works great. Tech Wash and Tx.Direct work best as a team. Give them both a try... I think you'll be pleased. If you have any more detailed questions, don't hesitate to contact us at (800) 563-3057. Thanks for your question!

Nikwax Softshell Proof Wash In

December 27, 2010

Hi Eric!
Softshell proof is a great choice for your pants. As to whether to use the spray-on or the wash-in... I only recommend the spray-on product if the garment has a liner that is intended to wick sweat (such as a running shirt with a hanging mesh liner). I use the wash-in treatment for all my softshells as well (which I LIVE in). That said, you should ALWAYS use Tech Wash before treating garments, as the proofers will not adhere well to dirty fabric. Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide. As always, feel free to call us at (800)563-3057 with questions. Thanks for your question!

Nikwax Tech Wash

November 29, 2010

Hi Austin!
The answers above are correct. Tech Wash is a cleaner that will improve your jacket's breathability. If, after cleaning, you notice that water isn't beading up on the surface of the jacket anymore, it's time to reapply the DWR (durable water repellancy) to the outside using the Tx.Direct spray-on found here: http://www.backcountry.com/nikwax-tx-direct-spray-on

Thanks for your question! Stay dry!

Great Boots for Narrow Heels

Asolo Stynger Gore-Tex Boot - Women's

Asolo Stynger Gore-Tex Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 10, 2010

I have narrow heels which makes finding boots tough because my heels tend to slide up and down the back of the boots. These boots have a nicely shaped back and great lacing system which arrests motion of the foot inside the shoe. They are also extremely supportive. The boots have a roomy toe box, but I bought a half size larger than I typically wear and found that to be perfect.

Perfect Jacket for Softshell Junkies

Outdoor Research Mithril Softshell Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Mithril Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 10, 2010

The perfect jacket for softshell junkies. I fell in love with the mithril the moment I put it on. The fabric is thick enough to be warm and rugged, but still extremely breathable. I'm just shy of 5'10" and the sleeves and torso length is plenty long in a size large. The shoulder/arm construction allows total freedom of movement, which makes it great for almost any activity. The hood is roomy, comfortable and warm. I live in Seattle and I plan to live in this jacket all fall and winter. It's so comfortable I may wear it to bed.

Simple Satire Flat Elastic Shoe - Women's

Simple Satire Flat Elastic Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 8, 2010

I love these Simple sneaks...i'm actually considering ordering a second pair of the same. They are comfy with a sponge/foam insole. They do not provide a great deal of support, but could fit a 3/4 length insole if your feet require rigid support. I generally wear a 9 to 9.5 and the 9.5 in these fit perfectly (if you're between, I recommend ordering up). If you're looking for an environmentally and socially responsible shoe that looks hip, these are a great option!

Nikwax Nubuck & Suede Spray-On Footwear Treatment

November 8, 2010

Hi Samuel!
You could use the Nubuck & Suede, but i'd save that product for your suede footwear. Nikwax makes several products designed specifically for full grain leather footwear. Nikwax Conditioner for Leather will waterproof and soften the leather. Nikwax Waterproofing Wax for Leather (in either the Creme or Liquid formulations) will waterproof without softening. You can get any of these through our friends at backcountry.com. Thanks for your question! Stay dry!

Nikwax BaseWash

November 8, 2010

Hi Dave!
As Kirk mentioned, Nikwax Base Wash is designed for anything that you wear next-to-skin. It works great for cycling jerseys, shorts and tights. One thing to note, though, is that in addition to removing odor Base Wash also increases wicking ability. So, you don't want to use it on anything that is designed to be waterproof, since wicking and waterproof-ness don't play well together. But go ahead, throw your stinkiest cycling stuff at our Base Wash, it cleans gently and removes embedded odor like a dream! Thanks for your question. Stay Dry!

Nikwax Tech Wash / TXD Wash-In Twin Pack DO NOT USE

November 8, 2010

Hi Alex!
Great advice from both Jason and Mike. DON'T put your tent in a machine with an agitator - I wash mine in the tub! Use Tech Wash (which will remove campfire stink) and give it a good soak, but do consider using Nikwax Tent & Gear Solarproof afterward... proofing a tent is a big job and you may as well get the added benefit of preventing UV damage, right?! Nikwax Creme Waterproofing Wax for Leather

November 8, 2010

Hi! You absolutely don't need an oven to use the Creme Waterproofing Wax. You should apply it to the gloves when they are damp and they will be waterproof instantly. Don't rush the drying process or it could damage the gloves. Nikwax products are all water-based and don't require heat to "cure" or "set." So, no worries - just put the gloves on when they're wet, apply like hand lotion to proof and let air dry! Thanks for the question. Stay Dry!

Arc'teryx Kappa SV Hooded Insulated Jacket - Men's

November 8, 2010

Hi Lindsey!
You can absolutely use Tech Wash and TX.Direct for this jacket... those products were designed with waterproof/breathable materials in mind. You won't be compromising breathability at all. In fact, the Tech Wash/TX team will help you get the best performance from this killer piece over the long term. As to whether you spray-on or wash-in, that is totally up to you. I use the wash-in because it's SO simple and I can't miss a spot but they both work the same way. Tech Wash/TX are a high-performing, long-lasting, environmentally-friendly team! Any other questions, don't hesitate to call the number on the back of any Nikwax bottle - we love talking to our customers! Thanks for the question. Stay dry!
