I got a great deal on these shoes but was still apprehensive about how well they would perform and fit. I've used them almost daily for two months and they have broken in nicely. I wanted a light waterproof hiker and these have not let me down. They truly are waterproof and, though very light, are still supportive. The one "con" I've experienced is that, due to the waterproof-ness, they are not quite as breathable as I had hoped. Overall a great shoe.

Phil is right, the pack has a waist belt rather than a hip belt. This pack does have wide, padded shoulder straps that do a great job distributing the pack's weight. I can load the pack down for a day trip or for a long day at grad school and not be concerned about the weight.
