Stoic Microlith Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 16, 2012

WARNING: These pants pill like 90's cheap fleece. After I hiked for two days with these pants they were full of pills. Very disappointing. I question their long term durability.

I got to test these for a week in alpine environment. They breathe well in the 90's and kept me warm down to 30's. They kept the chilly wind out when I walked along the mountain crest. They feel light and comfortable. Their elasticity allows great range of movement.

Water repellency is weak. Waterfall mist and very light rain rolls off, but rain goes right through them. Maybe spray on DWR would help, but stock they are disappointing. My patagonia slopestyle hoodie, which isn't even a softshell kept my dry longer in rain.

Stoic Microlith Softshell Pant - Men's

I ordered the Medium and they worked out well. I am 150LBs, 32. I would compare their fit to Arc'teryx and Marmot. Basically a size up from what brands mortals wear.

For some reason the belt is seems to sit above the pants, but I don't really mind it.

I recently ordered the Stoic Bertol Guide Softshell Pants in small and I found them tight on my 32 waist, 150LBs. Do these have a similar fit? I guess I should get a medium?

Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

June 26, 2012

After trying a bunch of boots recently I think I get my stuff too tight. My fear of big rock climbing shoes and ski boots carried over.

How much room should you have at the top front a hiking boot ?

Salewa Alp Trainer Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

June 15, 2012

Can these be used for long hikes with a backpack? My first impression was that they are built more like a rock climbing shoe. I got the 9.5. Most footwear is a bit big in 9.5 for me. These were very tight. My big toe mound was under a lot of pressure. It's weird since I always had problems finding tight enough footwear for my low instep. Now sure should I try a 10 or these shoes are just not for me?
